Gas hold-up variation with pore size of tray in trayed bubble column (Trayed bubble column 반응기에서 tray의 기공크기에 따른 gas hold-up 변화 연구)

  • 슬러리 기포탑 반응기는 열 및 물질 전달의 용이성, 낮은 운전비용 및 장치의 간단성의 장점을 가지고 있어서 Fischer-Tropsch 반응, bio-reaction 등에 많이 응용되고 있다. 그러나 기포탑 반응기 내의 물질 거동은 매우 복잡하기 때문에 많은 연구가 이루어지고 있음에도 불구하고 그 현상에 대한 명확한 이해는 어려운 상황이다. 특히 기포탑반응기 내에 기체의 포집율(gas hold-up)을 증가시키는 것을 목적으로 하는 연구들이 활발히 진행되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 trayed bubble column 반응기에서 tray의 기공크기에 따른 기체 포집율의 변화를 관찰하였다. 실험에 사용된 반응기는 내경이 0.15 m이고 높이 2.0 m의 아크릴 반응기를 이용하였다. 사용된 연속상은 수돗물을 사용하였고 분산상 기체로는 압축공기를 이용하였다. Tray의 기공크기는 1.1 mm부터 14.0 mm까지 변화시키면서 높이별 기체 포집율의 변화를 관찰하였다. 기체 포집율의 변화를 균일흐름 영역과 불균일 흐름 영역에서 그 양상이 다르게 나타났다. 즉 균일계 영역에서는 기공의 크기가 1.1 mm부터 2.9 mm까지 증가시면 기체포집율이 감소하는 반면 2.9 mm 이상에서는 증가하는 것으로 관찰되었다. 반면 불균일 흐름 영역에서는 전반적으로 기공의 크기가 작아질수록 기체포집율이 증가하였다. 또한 각각의 흐흠 영역에서의 기체포집율 증가정도는 확연한 차이를 보이는 것을 알 수 있었다. 이것은 흐름영역의 유체거동에 따라서 기포와 tray 기공사이의 상호작용 메커니즘이 달라지기 때문인 것으로 보인다.

Holdup Characteristics of Three Functional Regions in a Slurry Bubble Column (삼상 슬러리 기포탑의 세 기능영역 체류량 특성)

  • Three kinds of functional regions such as continuous slurry(${\varepsilon}_f$), bubble(${\varepsilon}_b$) and wake(${\varepsilon}_w$) regions were identified, and the individual phase holdups of each functional region were determined in a three-phase slurry bubble column of 0.152 m ID. The holdups of bubble and wake were measured by adopting the electrical resistivity probe method. Effects of gas velocity and solid concentration in the slurry phase on the individual holdups of functional regions in the column were discussed. The holdup of continuous slurry phase decreased but that of bubble or wake increased, with an increase in the gas velocity in the column. The increase of solid content in the slurry phase could lead to the increase in the holdup of continuous slurry phase but decrease in the bubble or wake holdup. The portion of wake holdup was in the range of 15~40% of the bubble holdup, which decreased with increasing gas velocity or solid content in the slurry phase. The individual holdups of three functional regions were well correlated with operating variables within this experimental conditions.

  • The growth of the critical size bubble by diffusion process in viscoelastic medium was treated by an integral method for the concentration boundary layer adjacent to the bubble wall. In this study, we obtained a set of the first order time dependent equations to obtain bubble radius and gas pressure inside the bubble simultaneously. The calculated final cell sizes depending on the initial saturation pressure are in close agreement with the observed ones. The governing equations developed in this study may be used in polymer processing of microcellular foams.

  • The rise of a large gas bubble or slug in a Micro Two-Phase Closed Thermosyphon with a thin wire insert has been analiged by the potential flow theory. The effect of the interfacial surface tension is explicitly accounted by application of the Kelvin-Laplace equation and solved for the bubble shape. The solution is expressed in terms of the Stokes stream function which consists of an infinite series of Bessel functions. The conditions of the bubble movement in a Micro Two-Phase Closed Thermosyphon were theoretically ascertained.

  • Droplet evaporation can be used to transfer large amounts of energy since heat is transferred across a thin liquid film. Spreading the drop over a larger area can enhance this heat transfer. One method of accomplishing this is to dissolve gas into the liquid. When the drop strikes the surface, a gas bubble nucleates and can grow and merge within the liquid, resulting in an increase in the droplet diameter. In this study, time and space resolved heat transfer characteristics for a single droplet striking a heated surface were experimentally investigated. The local wall heat flux and temperature measurements were provided by a novel experimental technique in which 96 individually controlled heaters were used to map the heat transfer coefficient contour on the surface. A high-speed digital video camera was used to simultaneously record images of the drop from below. The measurements to date indicate that significantly smaller droplet evaporation times can be achieved. The splat diameter was observed to increase with time just after the initial transient dies out due to the growth of the bubble, in contrast to a monotonically decreasing splat diameter for the case of no bubbles. Bursting of the bubble corresponded to a sudden decrease in droplet heat transfer.

  • When explosives explode in water, the effect of post-explosion gas after explosion should be considered, unlike explosion in the air. During explosion in water, the propagation velocity of the explosion pressure is faster than when the explosion occurs in the air. The generated gas is diffused and trapped in the form of bubbles by water before the energy is dissipated. At this time, the bubble expands and contracts, creating a shock wave. In order to investigate this series of phenomena, a cylinder type steel water tank capable of observing the interior was fabricated and explosion experiments were conducted. In this study, a small amount of shell-free pentolite was exploded in water. Experiments were performed to observe the behavior of the generated gas bubble as well as to measure the shock wave generated. We designed the experimental method of underwater explosion and examined the results.

  • Numerical simulation has been performed to investigate the bubbly flow in the liquid with vertical temperature gradient. The objective of this study is to establish an accurate numerical prediction program of gas-liquid two-phase flows in a vertical temperature gradient condition, whose mathematical model is formulated by the Eulerian-Lagrangian model. The present numerical results reveal the temperature mixing mechanism and the fluid dynamical characteristics induced by the bubbly flow in the liquid with stratified temperature. The effects of bubble radius, void fraction, and gas flow rate on bubble-driven convective flow are considered, too.

Treatment of Hydrochloric acid from Regeneration and Scrubber system of Cold Rolling Mill Plant with Micro-bubble (마이크로버블을 이용한 냉연 산회수설비공정 발생 염화수소 가스 처리)

  • This work has performed to examine the operation status of regeneration and scrubber system of cold rolling mill plant and established the DIWS(Dip Injection Wet Scrubber) system for the removal of hydrochloric acid with micro bubble. When the initial 22.3 ppm of HCl gas was injected into the system, the average exhaust HCl gas was 0.59 ppm with the removal efficiency of 97.3%. Hydrochloric acid was effectively removed by DIWS system. In the long term monitoring for 10 hours by 5 minutes through TMS(Tele Monitoring System), the average exhaust HCl gas was stably kept 0.69 ppm, which was also verified by manual measurement.

Analysis of Terminal Velocity, Drag Coefficient and Shape of Bubble Rising in High Viscous Fluid (고점도 유체 내에서 부양하는 거품의 종말속도, 항력계수, 형태 분석)

  • Gas-liquid 2 phase processes are usually used in chemical, biochemical, environmental engineering and food process. For optimizing these processes, understanding bubble's precise movement and shape are needed. Bubble's movement and shape are effected by liquid's properties-viscosity, surface tension and bubble's properties-size, velocity. This paper deals with experimental data of bubble's movement and shape in high viscous silicone oil. Also, drag coefficient and deformation factor given by other researcher's papers and books are used to predicting and comparing bubble's terminal velocity, drag coefficient, deformation factor and shape with experimental value. Experimental data show that bubble moves faster when it moves in lower viscous silicone oil and it's drag coefficient is bigger when it moves in high viscous silicone oil. Bubble's shape is close to sphere when moving in high viscous silicone. Formulas proposed by Batchelor expect most accurate prediction for bubble's velocity and drag coefficient. Bubble's 2D shape predicted by Batchelor's energy balance, drag coefficient and deformation factor show excellent agreement with experimental bubble's 2D shape.
