This paper describes the series-gap characteristics of transmission line arrester with switching and lightning impulse flashover test. The transmission line arrester exhibited external gap because it is must not flashover with switching impulse on the other hand it is must flashover with lightning impulse. In accordance, minimum and maximum length of series-gap was determinated with these tests. As gap length is increased flashover voltage was increased in the range of 315.4 kV~496.3 kV and negative polarity exhibited a high voltage. As a result, It was thought tat the series-gap length of transmission line arrester exhibited in the range of 580 mm~1100 mm.

Slot coating has been wide spread in photo-resist coating on the glass for liquid crystal display. Die in slot coater consists of manifold and land. Material comes in inlet of the die and flow into the manifold and then flow out through the land. The coating thickness variations along the die length depend upon inside of die design such as manifold and die land. However the coating thickness variations along the moving direction(coating direction) of the coater depend upon the operational conditions of coater as well as die lip design. The coating behaviors including atmospheric air have been investigated in this study. Die geometries considered in this study were nozzle gap and length of the die lip. Coating gap and coating speed were the variables fur coating operational conditions. When the nozzle gap and length of die lip increased climbing effect of PR on the downstream die lip was reduced. Subsequently uniformity of coating thickness improved. Uniformity of coating thickness also enhanced as coating gap and coater speed increased. The uniformity of coating gap was related to the velocity vector distributions on the coating surface.

In this paper, we investigated the influence of gap length and tip radius on breakdown of mineral based insulation oil. Applied voltages were DC and AC voltage. Electrode system was needle-plane structure. The tip radius of needle electrode was 5, 10, 20 and 25${\mu}m$, respectively. We measured breakdown voltage for each of tip radius with increasing electrode gap, 2mm to 12mm. Electric breakdown strength at tip was calculated using Mason's equation contained geometric figure. As gap length increased, breakdown strength increased linearly. But, as tip radius of needle increased, breakdown strength decreased exponentially. It can be explained by the phenomenon that electron is easily injected, as tip radius increases, and effective work function decreases. When appling DC voltage, breakdown strength was higher when polarity of needle was negative than positive. It is because of the space charge effect in accordance with the influence of liquid motion.

To improve pool boiling heat transfer in an vertical annulus with closed bottoms, the length of an outer tube has been changed from 0.2m to 0.6m. For the test, a heated tube of 19.1mm diameter and water at atmospheric pressure have been used. Annular conditions are made using glass tubes fabricated around the heated tube. The gap size of the annulus is 3.65mm. To elucidate effects of the outer tube length on heat transfer results of the annulus are compared with the data of a single unrestricted tube and the annulus with wider gap size of 6.35mm. Throughout the tests much higher heat transfer coefficients are observed for the annulus of 3.65mm gap size comparing to the other two cases. The change in the outer tube length results in much variation in heat transfer coefficients. Moreover, with shortening the length of outer tube the possibility of the CHF occurrence can be removed.

Narrow gap welding has many advantages over conventional V-grooved butt welding such as high productivity, small deformation and improved mechanical property of joints. With narrower groove gap, less arc heat input is expected will all the other advantages of narrow gap welding. The main defects of narrow gap welding include the lack of root fusion, convex bead surface and irregular surface, all of which have negative effects on the next welding pass. This paper suggests an up-and-down torch oscillation for ultra narrow gap welding with gap size of 5mm and investigates the proper welding conditions to fulfill the reliable and high welding quality. First, GMA welding model was suggested for ultra narrow gap welding system with Halmoy's model referenced for wire melting modeling. And the arc length in ultra narrow gap was defined. Secondly, based on the experimental results of up-and-down torch oscillation welding, phase shift of current and wire extension length were simulated for varying oscillation frequency to show that weld the bead shape in ultra narrow gap welding can be predicted. As the result, it was confirmed that reliable weld quality in ultra narrow gap welding can be achieved with up-and-down torch oscillation above 15Hz due to its ability to provide uniform heat input along the sidewall of gap.

A blue light emitting device has been successfully fabricated using a polymer with regulated conjugation length containing trimethylsilyl substituted phenylenevinylene units. Electroluminescence from the device has an emission maximum at 470 nm. The device shows typical diode characteristics with operating voltage of 20 V and the light becomes visible at a current density of less than $0.5;mA/cm^2$. The electroluminescence spectrum is virtually identical with the photoluminescence spectrum, indicating that the radiation mechanisms are the same for both. A light emitting device using the blend of a large band gap polymer and a small band gap polymer was also fabricated. Light emission from the small band gap polymer shows much improved quantum efficiency, but there is no light emission from the large band gap polymer. Quantum efficiency of the blend increases up to about two orders of magnitude greater than that of the small band gap polymer with increasing proportion of the large band gap polymer. The improvement in quantum efficiency is interpreted in terms of exciton transfer and the hole blocking behaviour of the large band gap polymer. Finally, we have fabricated a patterned flexible light emitting device using the high quantum efficiency polymer blend system.

Breakdown characteristics of air in the vertical arrangement of line conductor and plane electrode in case of combustion flame on the plane electrode are examined by the application of AC. and DC voltages to the gap. In order to investigate the effect of paraffin flame on the breakdown characteristics of air, flashover voltages are measured according to the variation of the gap length and the horizontal distance between the flame and the line conductor. As the result of the experiment, flashover voltages are substantially lowered down to 29.8% in case of the AC voltage, and 16.1% in case of the negative DC voltage, when in the presence of the flame. from 100% when in the absence of flame. Flashover voltages of air in the range of smaller than 3㎝ at the horizontal distance are increased in the proportion of the gap length and the horizontal distance in case of both AC and negative DC voltages. But before the flashover occurs, the flame is extinguished by such corona wind that is produced from the line conductor when the gap length and the horizontal distance reach to a certain degree. The effect of relative air density and the phenomenon of thermal ionization are analysed as the reduction factors of flashover voltages, due to high temperature of the flame.

We have constructed and studied a laser system which consists of a multiplex spark gap with 8 couples of spark gaps and a multiple parallel plate capacitor type Blumlein transmission line circuit. In this laser system, the length of the laser tube, the length of the multiplex spark gap and the total thickness of the transmission line circuit are chosen to be 520 mm. The experimental results show that one couple of spark gaps cannot give a uniform and complete lasing through the whole laser tube. All the more, a multiplex spark gap could not perform completely and synchronously. However, a multiplex spark gap in found to contribute to the increase of laser output power and the laser has performed the best when the location is three quarters of the laser tube length.

The aim of this study was to investigate the behaviors of plasma jet under coaxial magnetic field in paralled with it for controlling optical characteristics and input power of plasma jet without impurity and instability of arc plasma column. Because the discharge characteristics of plasma jet were so distinctively different according to the existence or non-existence of magnetic field, the input power, luminous intensity of plasma jet and thermal efficiency were comparatively studied in respect of such variables as arc current, gap of electrode, quantity of argon flow, magnetic flux density, diameter and length of nozzle, with the use of several materials which were different in diameter and length of nozzel. The results were as follows; 1) The voltage tends to show a drooping characteristic at law current and then rises gradually. The luminous intensity of plasma jet increases exponentially with arc current. 2) Arc voltage increases and luminous intensity tends to decrease gradually as gap of electrode increases. 3) Arc voltage and luminous intensity tends to decrease gradually as gap of electrode increases. 3) Arc voltage and luminous intensity increase in accordance with the quantity of argon flow. 4) At first step, arc voltage increases to maximum value with the growth of flux density and then tends to show a gradual decrease. Luminous intensity decreases with the growth flux density. 5) Arc voltage decreases as the constriction length of nozzle increases, maximum decrease is shown at the constriction length of 20(mm) and it increases beyond that value. The luminous intensity decreases as the constriction length grows. 6) Arc voltage and luminous in tensity increase with the growth of diameters of nozzle. 7) Thermal efficiency has values between 50% and 75%, being influenced by arc current, the quantity of argon flow, flux density, the length of electrode gap and the constriction length of nozzle.
