Ionizing radiation, including that evoked by gamma (${\gamma}$)-rays, induces oxidative stress through the generation of reactive oxygen species, resulting in apoptosis, or programmed cell death. This study aimed to elucidate the radioprotective effects of hyperoside (quercetin-3-O-galactoside) against ${\gamma}$-ray radiation-induced apoptosis in Chinese hamster lung fibroblasts, V79-4 and demonstrated that the compound reduced levels of intracellular reactive oxygen species in ${\gamma}$-ray-irradiated cells. Hyperoside also protected irradiated cells against DNA damage (evidenced by pronounced DNA tails and elevated phospho-histone H2AX and 8-oxoguanine content) and membrane lipid peroxidation. Furthermore, hyperoside prevented the ${\gamma}$-ray-provoked reduction in cell viability via the inhibition of apoptosis through the increased levels of Bcl-2, the decreased levels of Bax and cytosolic cytochrome c, and the decrease of the active caspase 9 and caspase 3 expression. Taken together, these results suggest that hyperoside defend cells against ${\gamma}$-ray radiation-induced apoptosis by inhibiting oxidative stress.
Let R be a commutative ring with identity and M an R-module. In this paper, we associate a graph to M, say ${\Gamma}(M)$, such that when M = R, ${\Gamma}(M)$ is exactly the classic zero-divisor graph. Many well-known results by D. F. Anderson and P. S. Livingston, in [5], and by D. F. Anderson and S. B. Mulay, in [6], have been generalized for ${\Gamma}(M)$ in the present article. We show that ${\Gamma}(M)$ is connected with $diam({\Gamma}(M)){\leq}3$. We also show that for a reduced module M with $Z(M)^*{\neq}M{\backslash}\{0\}$, $gr({\Gamma}(M))={\infty}$ if and only if ${\Gamma}(M)$ is a star graph. Furthermore, we show that for a finitely generated semisimple R-module M such that its homogeneous components are simple, $x,y{\in}M{\backslash}\{0\}$ are adjacent if and only if $xR{\cap}yR=(0)$. Among other things, it is also observed that ${\Gamma}(M)={\emptyset}$ if and only if M is uniform, ann(M) is a radical ideal, and $Z(M)^*{\neq}M{\backslash}\{0\}$, if and only if ann(M) is prime and $Z(M)^*{\neq}M{\backslash}\{0\}$.
We prove that a regular ordered semigroup S is left simple if and only if every intuitionistic fuzzy left ideal of S is a constant function. We also show that an ordered semigroup S is left (resp. right) regular if and only if for every intuitionistic fuzzy left(resp. right) ideal A = <$\mu_A$, $\gamma_A$> of S we have $\mu_A(a)\;=\;\mu_A(a^2)$, $\gamma_A(a)\;=\;\gamma_A(a^2)$ for every $a\;{\in}\;S$. Further, we characterize some semilattices of ordered semigroups in terms of intuitionistic fuzzy left(resp. right) ideals. In this respect, we prove that an ordered semigroup S is a semilattice of left (resp. right) simple semigroups if and only if for every intuitionistic fuzzy left (resp. right) ideal A = <$\mu_A$, $\gamma_A$> of S we have $\mu_A(a)\;=\;\mu_A(a^2)$, $\gamma_A(a)\;=\;\gamma_A(a^2)$ and $\mu_A(ab)\;=\;\mu_A(ba)$, $\gamma_A(ab)\;=\;\gamma_A(ba)$ for all a, $b\;{\in}\;S$.
Cytologic diagnosis of reactive or malignant effusion is sometimes difficult. Especially, differentiation of benign reactive mesothelial cells from malignant cells in body effusion is more difficult. Recently, immunohistochemistry has been used to diagnose difficult cases. Phospholipase $C(PLC)-{\gamma}1$ is one of the isoenzyme of the PLC which plays central role in signal transduction involving cellular growth, differentiation and transformation by phosphorylating many protein component. Increased expression of $PLC-{\gamma}1$ in human breast carcinoma, colorectal carcinoma and stomach cancers are reported. To evaluate the efficacy of positive $PLC-{\gamma}1$ immunostaining in the diagnosis of malignancy in effusions, paraffin-embedded cell blocks of pleural fluid and ascites from 10 patients(5 metastatic adenocarcinomas, and 5 reactive mesothelial cells) were immunostained with a monoclonal antibody to $PLC-{\gamma}1$. $PLC-{\gamma}1$ immuostained all the adenocarcinomas in cell block(5/5) with intense membrane pattern, however, none of the reactive mesothelial proliferations stained with the diagnostic membrane pattern. Thus, our study strongly supports the conclusion that $PLC-{\gamma}1$ immunopositivity is likely to become a useful adjunct for the diagnosis of malignancy in effusions.
Since the discovery of the muscle spindle by Hassall (1831), an intensive studies of its anatomical and physiological characteristics had been undertaken. Recent morphological studies of Boyd (1962) demonstrated that the muscle spindles have two different intrafusal muscle fibers, nuclear bag and nuclear chain fiber, and these intrafusal fibers are under independent motor innervation by ${\gamma}_1$ and ${\gamma}_2$ motor neurone. Neurophysiological studies of Hunt and Kuffler (1951) showed regulatory effect of ${\gamma}$ motor neurone upon the excitability of the spindle afferents. Harvey and Mathews (1961) observed the dynamic and static characteristics of the two different spindle afferents, the primary and secondary ending. Furthermore, Mathews (1962) postulated the functional existance of two kind of ${\gamma}$ motor neurones, namely, the dynamic and static fusimotor fiber. Recent report of Kim and Partridge(1969) pointed out that the descending vestibular signals had increased the slope of the length-tension relationship in stretch reflex; Kim (1967) demonstrated that the descending vestibular impulses act upon the stretch reflex loop through the ${\gamma}$ motor pathway. These experimental evidences from the morphological and neurophysiological studies on the muscle spindles support the concept that the stretch reflex action of the skeletal muscle operates as a negative feedback control system. The author had discussed the way by which the f system participates in the control of stretch relfex feed back system. that was taken for a prototype of posture and movement.
This study was done to investigate the relationship between ultrasonograph fat density (ULFD) using objective measurement and serum enzymes for testing liver function in 101 healthy adults(43 males and 58 females). Average serum enzyme activities in males and females were GOT27.111U/L and 22.46IU/L, GPT 34.06IU/L and 18.501U/L, and ${\gamma}$-GTP 37.67IU/L and 17.201U/L, respectively. Males showed significantly higher activities of GPT and ${\gamma}$-GTP than females. ULFD of the obese group (BMI$\geq$25) was significantly higher than that of the nonobese group. GOT, GPT, and ${\gamma}$-GTP tended to be high in the obese group. GPT and ${\gamma}$-GTP of the high TG group (TG$\geq$170) tended to be markedly high for males, but not for females. GPT was positively correlated with ULFD, body weight , and weight-to-height, ratio, and ${\gamma}$-GTP was positively correlated with body weight, weight-to-height ratio. BNI, and KI. ULFD and ${\gamma}$-GTP were positively correlated with serum TG. These results suggests that , among serum enzymes for testing liver function, GPT has a close relationship with ULFD using objective measurement, while GOT does not. Also , ${\gamma}$-GTP has a close relationship with parameters for obesity.
It is known that gamma-band activity (GBA) and phase synchrony (GBPS) are induced by emotional visual stimuli. However, the characteristics of GBA and GBPS according to different emotional states have not been identified. The purpose of this study is to investigate the changes in gamma-band neuronal synchronization induced by positive and negative emotional visual stimuli using electroencephalograms (EEGs). Thirteen healthy male subjects have participated in the experiment. The induced spectral power in gamma-band was the highest for negative stimuli, and the lowest for neutral stimuli in 300-2,000 ms after the stimulus onset. The inter-regional phase synchronization in gamma-band was increased in 500-2,000 ms, mainly between the bilateral frontal regions and the parieto-occipital regions. Larger number of significant connections were found by negative stimuli compared to positive ones. Judging from temporal and spatial characteristics of the gamma-band activity and phase synchrony increases, the results may imply that affective visual stimuli cause stronger memory encoding than non-emotional stimuli, and this effect is more significant for negative emotional stimuli than positive ones.
Src homology (SH) domains of phospholipase C-$\gamma1$ (PLC-$\gamma1$) impair NGF-mediated PC12 cells differentiation. However, whether the enzymatic activity is also implicated in this process remains elusive. Here, we report that the enzymatic activity of phospholipase C-$\gamma1$ (PLC-$\gamma1$) is at least partially involved to the blockage of neuronal differentiation via an abrogation of MAPK activation, as well as sustained Akt activation. By contrast, Overexpression of WT-PLC-$\gamma1$ exhibited sustained NGF-induced MAPK activation, and triggered transient Akt activation resulting in profound inhibition of neurite outgrowth. However, lipase-inactive mutant (LIM) PLC-$\gamma1$ cells fail to suppress neurite outgrowth, although it contains intact SH domains, specifically enhancing the expression of cyclin D1 and p21 proteins, which regulate the function of retinoblastoma Rb protein. These observations show that the lipase inactive mutant of PLC-$\gamma1$ does not alter NGF-induced neuronal differentiation via enzymatic inability and the modulation of cell cycle regulatory proteins independent on SH3 domain.
Codonopsis lanceolatae have been used as one of the traditional remedies as well as food source. We previously reported that in vitro supplementation of Codonopsis lanceolatae water extracts enhanced the splenocytes proliferation compared to the control group. This study, the combined immunomodulative effect of water extract Codonopsis lanceolatae was Seven to eight weeks old mice(balb/c) was fed ad libitum on chow diet and water extract of Codonopsis lanceolatae was orally administrated every other day for four weeks at two different concentrations(50 and 500 mg/kg B.W.). The production of cytokine(IL-2, IL-10 and IFN-${\gamma}$), secreted by macrophages stimulated with LPS or not, were detected by ELISA assay using the cytokine kit. The result of ex vivo study showed that the IL-2, IL-10 and IFN-${\gamma}$ was detected at 500 mg/kg B.W. supplementation group with LPS stimulation in all cases. Also, ratio of IFN-${\gamma}$, IL-10 was the range of 3${\sim}$7 with mitogen stimulation such as Con A and LPS. In conclusion, this study suggests that Codonopsis lanceolatae extracts may enhance the immune function by regulating the cytokine(IL-2, IL-10 and IFN-${\gamma}$) prodution capacity by activated macrophages in mice.

Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor $\gamma$ (PPAR${\gamma}$) is a ligand-activated transcription factor that is used as a target for anti-diabetic drug development. In a search for novel PPAR${\gamma}$ agonists, the $\beta$-carboxyethyl-rhodanine derivative SP1818 was identified. We report here the characteristics of SP1818 as a selective PPAR${\gamma}$ agonist. In transactivation assays, SP1818 selectively activated PPAR${\gamma}$, but the degree of PPAR${\gamma}$ stimulation was less than with $1{\mu}M$ rosiglitazone. SP1818 also stimulated glucose uptake in a concentration-dependent manner. The adipocyte differentiation markers adiponectin, scavenger receptor CD36 and aP2 were weakly induced by treatment with SP1818, and TRAP220 subunit was specifically recruited into PPAR${\gamma}$ activated by rosiglitazone but not PPAR${\gamma}$ activated by SP1818.
