  • Traditional Korean paper called Hanji using bast fibers from mulberry tree is made through complicated handmade works. This made Hanji very strong and exceedingly durable. Therefore it is said to last a thousand years. Such incomparable features of Hanji come from the unique sheet forming method called ouibalttugi using a bamboo screen. Excellent physical properties of Hanji reflect the wide variety of use, all central to everyday life. Despite its Excellency, the papermaking practice of traditional handmade paper, Hanji, from Korea is little known outside its country. This might be due to public apathy on Hanji in modern times. Without future apprentices dedicated to the craft, the Korean tradition able to make its soul is in danger of extinction in its homeland. Therefore more concern and more affection on Hanji is required immediately. It must be kept in mind that Hanji is our cultural heritage in pride over time.

  • The purpose of this study is to extract landscape design elements regulation of the District Unit Plan(DUP) in new town areas, and to find out characteristics in terms of urban design elements in comparison with the psychological and physical aspects. For this purpose, we reviewed urban design elements and design elements in terms of the landscape by DUP and analyzed the activation of landscape on the selected case-area by interviewing experts such as planners, public officials, and professors in the department of urban planning and landscape, as well as the university students. The analysis framework for the case-study consists of 4 components: the section of region, street, building, open space, etc. The new development areas in Daejeon Metropolitan City was chosen as the case study area, because they have been developed by DUP regulations. As a result of this study, we can extract characteristics of landscape. The results indicate that `skyline design',`view corridor design',`landscape design',`street furniture design' and `building design(form, height, color, and elevation)' are the key planning and design factors influencing differences in the landscape preference. This research identifies that there are no detailed planning and design guidelines adopted within the four case study areas in Daejeon for regulating the characteristics of skyline, planting and street furniture while detailed guidelines established for density, building height and site layout. Considering their significant correlation with the level of landscape preference, this study suggests that detailed planning and design guidelines for the characteristics of skyline, rooftop and streetscape should be established in future DUP.

  • Internet of Things (IoT) is the paradigm of network of Internet-connected things as objects that constantly sense the physical world and share the data for further processing. At the core of IoT lies the early technology of radio frequency identification (RFID), which provides accurate location tracking of real-world objects. With its small size and convenience, RFID tags can be attached to everyday items such as books, clothes, furniture and the like as well as to animals, plants, and even humans. This phenomenon is the beginning of new applications and services for the industry and consumer market. IoT is regarded as a fourth industrial revolution because of its massive coverage of services around the world from smart homes to artificial intelligence-enabled smart driving cars, Internet-enabled medical equipment, etc. It is estimated that there will be several dozens of billions of IoT devices ready and operating until 2020 around the world. Despite the growing statistics, however, IoT has security vulnerabilities that must be addressed appropriately to avoid causing damage in the future. As such, we mention some fields of study as a future topic at the end of the survey. Consequently, in this comprehensive survey of IoT, we will cover the architecture of IoT with various layered models, security characteristics, potential applications, and related supporting technologies of IoT such as 5G, MEC, cloud, WSN, etc., including the economic perspective of IoT and its future directions.

  • In today's man's domestic environments, the development of furnishings in their various shapes and functions is as complex as human lives. Architecture, Interior, and Furniture, each one of these have the relationship closer and closer to the direct human environments. In this study, by choosing the theme of sitting , the transformation of man's behavioral models would be examined in sociological terms. By viewing the chair as an emblematic objects made for more than just sitting, the chair has revealed the relations of man with his environment since the history of furnishings began. Qualified architects and designers know that chairs are no longer the objects, but the primary subject of furnishings. Through this examination of the emblematic typologies of periodic chairs in the history of the Western culture, in terms of their relationships with politics , religions, monarchies, societies, and etc., the meaning of the designs could be find and which could be the resolutions for the future innovative design. These refound or recreated meanings in the history of design could create another typology for the future reality.

  • If we look at Korea's urbanization since 1960, only the urban communities like buildings have developed, yet the resting places for human itself have been ignored. Many people continuously felt alienated especially after the mechanization and started to demand for better living space. For that reason, it is essential for us to develop the resting places for human among the buildings in urban areas and these resting places could form the basis of new community. We have researched on street furniture and citizen's behavior pattern in resting places through references and internet surfing to propose a design concept for a new resting place and street furniture, Therefore, we would like to design a resting place in urban area considering human, community and environment. As a result, we have designed a resting place where citizens could interact with surrounding environment and let office workers enjoy the nature among the buildings in this resting place. People could always stop by and take some rose by enjoying the surrounding nature. The resting place consists of 5 zones- public square, environmental zone, communication zone, technology zone, and entertainment zone. Each zone has its own design motif to lead systematic street furniture and site planning. The resting place is formed in a specific region which is a prototype of a resting environment in urban areas in the future and it could be reassigned according to its regional condition.

  • As industrialization and urbanization accelerate, environmental issues have moved from local concerns to global issues. Among them, air pollution is the most important issue. Modern people spend more than 88% of their day indoors, but the concentration of fine dust and pollutants flowing indoors is increasing. The indoor environment has its own complexity, and various substances used indoors, such as building materials, furniture, electronics, and cleaning agents, emit chemical substances and cause various diseases. Therefore, when selecting building materials and interior finishing materials, the pollutant emission and adsorption capacity must be greatly considered. These considerations will ensure the construction of a sustainable future environment and a healthy life within that environment. Therefore, in order to reduce the generation of indoor air pollutants, this study aims to examine the fine dust adsorption properties of cement hardening materials using sepiolite, which has a porous structure and high absorption power among clay minerals. As a result of the experiment, it was found that the concentration of fine dust decreased as the addition rate of sepiolite increased. It is believed that the fine dust concentration was reduced due to the high porosity due to the microfibrous structure and large specific surface area of sepiolite, which has a porous structure among clay minerals. It is believed that these experimental results can be used as basic research for future use of sepiolite as a construction material.

  • The ubiquitous smart home is the home of the future, which exploits context information from both the human and the home environment, providing an automatic home service for the human. Human location and motion are the most important contexts in the ubiquitous smart home. In this paper, we present a real-time human tracker that predicts human location and motion for the ubiquitous smart home. The system uses four network cameras for real-time human tracking. This paper explains the architecture of the real-time human tracker, and proposes an algorithm for predicting human location and motion. To detect human location, three kinds of images are used: $IMAGE_1$ - empty room image, $IMAGE_2$ - image of furniture and home appliances, $IMAGE_3$ - image of $IMAGE_2$ and the human. The real-time human tracker decides which specific furniture or home appliance the human is associated with, via analysis of three images, and predicts human motion using a support vector machine (SVM). The performance experiment of the human's location, which uses three images, lasted an average of 0.037 seconds. The SVM feature of human motion recognition is decided from the pixel number by the array line of the moving object. We evaluated each motion 1,000 times. The average accuracy of all types of motion was 86.5%.
