  • Obstacle avoidance of underactuated robot manipulators using switching computed torque method (SCTM) is presented. One fundamental feature of this novel method is to use partly stable controllers (PSCs) in order to fulfill the ultimate control objective. Here, we use genetic algorithms (GAs) to acquire the optimum switching sequence of the control actions for a given time frame with the available set of elemental controllers, depending on which links/variables are controlled. The effectiveness of the concept is illustrated by taking a three-degrees-of-freedom (DOF) manipulator and showing enhanced performance of the proposed control methodology.

  • This thesis is conducted a survey of consumer problems and dissatisfaction and their complaining behavior. It analyzes the complex and varied consumer problems and dissatisfactions, then minimizes them and motivates active response. Also, this thesis is intended to provide fundamental study that may be used for the formulation of consumer protection polices. For this purpose, questionary survey method was used and the sample was taken from 603 housewives lives in Seoul. The major results of the study are summarized as follows; 1) Quality of product was the most frequent problem among consumer problems and dissatisfaction. 2) The level of consumer complaining behavior was 50.69/100 which is a little above median point. Non-complaining behavior was the most frequent, and followed by private/public behavior, public behavior and private behavior. 3) Path analysis of the variables affecting complaining behavior showed total causal effect to be biggest for degree of information search. The experience of consumer problems and dissatisfaction of consumers caused positive effect though causal relation.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study aims to provide a fundamental basis for more efficient human resource management of hospitals through career development and through lowering the rate of turnover of nurses. Method: The target group was 370 nurses who are currently employed at four general hospitals. Three hundred and twenty-nine documents were collected, and the statistical results were generated by the SAS program. Result: The average mean score of organizational commitment, career commitment and turnover intention were: 3.13 points for affective commitment, 3.09 points for continuance commitment and 2.92 points for normative commitment, out of a five point scale. The average mean score of career commitment and turnover intention was 2.89 and 3.28 points. The most influential variable in turnover intention was affective commitment out of organizational commitment. Conclusions: This study verified that organizational commitment and career commitment are key variables that could decrease turnover intentions.

  • This study was performed to provide fundamental data on middle-aged women's upper torso by classifying the upper torso somatotype and analyzing the characteristics of their somatotype. Factor analysis of principal component model was used to 38 directly measured items, and cluster analysis was applied for classification of upper torso forms. Seven factors were extracted from the factor analysis. The first factor represented the items of circumference, breadth, and depth which were related with body size. On the basis of the cluster analysis using factor scores trom factor analysis as being independent variables, the subjects were classified into three groups. Three dress forms were constructed according to the characteristics for each somatotype of subjects, the three-dimensional characteristics of somatotype were analyzied by the moire pattern and horizontal section map of proposed dress forms. Wearing test by moire topography was used to evaluate wearing outline, the ease of clothes and garment space. Moire pattern and horizontal section map were useful to evaluate wearing conditions, and garment space was changed by the characteristics of the body shape.

  • A satellite RF communication link is analyzed based on a simple fundamental equations by systematic approach in this paper. The number of variables related to a design and analysis of satellite RF link is often a dozen or more, thus it is a tedious and time-consuming task. With the given input data, the important parameters are calculated step by step and three communication characteristics such as communication channel capacity, carrier-to-noise ratio(CNR) at the satellite and ground station are analyzed. It gives very useful information to the system engineers for designing and analyzing the overall satellite communication system in the conceptual design phase.

  • Formation which is one of the most fundamental characteristic of paper quality is affected by a number of variables. Fiber flocculation in the headbox has been recognized as the most important variable influencing formation. Consistency and crowding number of headbox stock are known to represent the flocculation potential of stocks. The effects of consistency and crowding number on paper formation were studied by measuring the flocculation of fiber suspensions. Increasing consistency increased the degree of fiber flocculation. Especially the consistency of long fiber fraction was the most crucial factor of flocculation. Tensile strength of handsheets was furnish dependent rather than flocculation dependent. Crowding number of a furnish can be used for the characterization of stock flocculation.

  • This paper deals with a fundamental and classical scattering problem by a finite strip. For the analysis of scattered acoustic field, a “single” integral equation is derived. Firstly, the complexity by considering the effect of the mean flow is alleviated by the introduction of Prandtl-Glauert coordinate and the new dependent variable. Secondly, the difficulty of solving the resultant strongly-coupled integral equations which always appear in this kind of 3-part mixed boundary value problem is solved by observing some good properties of the functions in complex domain and manipulating the equations and variables for the use of those properties. The solution can be obtained asymptotically in terms of gamma function and Whittaker function. One aim of this study is the improvement of methodology for the research using integral equations. The other is the basic understanding of scattering by a finite strip related to the linear cascade model of rotating fan blades.

  • A parallelized topology optimization is applied to the design of a DVD-pickup bobbin, for which the design objective is to maximize the fundamental frequency within a given mass limit. Unlike the existing serial topology optimization, the present method can deal with a large number of design variables, and thus can yield practical and realistic results. The structural member-sizing filter is also employed to control the topological complexity of the optimized bobbin structure.

  • A fundamental study was conducted to obtain the basic data involved in nondestructive quality evaluation of the fruit and vegetables. An experimental equipment for ultrasonic propagation characteristics of the fruit and vegetables such as radish , carrot , potato, and apple was set up and also power spectrum analysis system of an ultrasonic wave through the fruit and vegetables was set up. The velocity and attenuation of ultrasonic wave through the tissue specimens from the fruit and vegetables were measured and analyzed. The elastic modulus and density by the mechanical method currently used were compared with those using by ultrasonic method. The ultrasonic tranit time was almost linearly increased with the length of the specimens and attenuation of ultrasonic was mainly affected by the internal flbrous structure of the products. The regression equation was derived from the highly correlated experimental variables.

  • Development of FSW for use in lap joint production would expend the number of applications that could benefit from the technique. In the study, an extensive investigation was carried out on FSW lap joints, including interface morphology and mechanical properties. Welding variables included welding speed, rotation speed and, of particular importance, lap joint a methods. Examination of metallographic cross sections and failure locations showed a critical sheet interface present in all welds. Results indicates FSW lap joints may potentially replace other joining processes like resistance spot welding and riveting.
