  • This paper presents accurate solutions for nonlinear transcendental equations of the selective harmonic elimination technique used in three-phase PWM inverters feeding the induction motor by particle swarm optimization (PSO). With the proposed approach, the required switching angles are computed efficiently to eliminate low order harmonics up to the $23^{rd}$ from the inverter voltage waveform, whereas the magnitude of the fundamental component is controlled to the desired value. A set of solutions and the evaluation of the proposed method are presented. The obtained results prove that the algorithm converges to a precise solution after several iterations. The salient contribution of the paper is the application of the particle swarm algorithm to attenuate successfully any undesired loworder harmonics from the inverter output voltage. The current paper demonstrates that the PSO is a promising approach to control the operation of a three-phase voltage source inverter with a selective harmonic elimination strategy to be applied in induction motor drives.

  • This paper deals with a fundamental and classical scattering problem by a finite strip. For the analysis of scattered acoustic field, a “single” integral equation is derived. Firstly, the complexity by considering the effect of the mean flow is alleviated by the introduction of Prandtl-Glauert coordinate and the new dependent variable. Secondly, the difficulty of solving the resultant strongly-coupled integral equations which always appear in this kind of 3-part mixed boundary value problem is solved by observing some good properties of the functions in complex domain and manipulating the equations and variables for the use of those properties. The solution can be obtained asymptotically in terms of gamma function and Whittaker function. One aim of this study is the improvement of methodology for the research using integral equations. The other is the basic understanding of scattering by a finite strip related to the linear cascade model of rotating fan blades.

  • The purpose of this study is recognized the problems of parking and parking demand, supply and operation of the control etc. It is to provide an alternative for the overall parking problem. Parking problem occurs because there is not enough parking spaces. In order to solve the parking problem of Chil-gok 1 residential development district, this study propose making use of a road parking lot establishment and the school playground and the public facilities construction parking lot. But it is the methods which are short-term. A fundamental solution method is Levying garage option on car buyers. It is system to apply a law for establishing garages to all of vehicles.

  • In this work, the constant average acceleration, which is a fundamental feature of the trapezoidal rule, is investigated and generalized. Using the generalization of average acceleration concept, a higher order accurate and unconditionally stable time-integration method is developed. The linear approximate of the present methods is exactly the same as the famous trapezoidal rule. To observe the accuracy and stability of the method, several numerical tests are performed and the results are compared with the results from the trapezoidal rule and the exact solution. From the numerical tests, it has been known that the present method has a higher order accuracy and unconditional stability.

  • In this study, the Taylor-Galerkin method is modified to take into consideration the third order term in the Taylor series of the fundamental variable. In the Taylor-Galerkin method, after expressing the governing equation of motion in conservation form, the temporal discretization is done first and then spatial discretization follows in contrast to the conventional approaches. A predictor-corrector type algorithm has been developed previously by the same author. A new computationally efficient direct algorithm is proposed in this study. A study on convergency and accuracy of the solution is carried out. Numerical examples show that this new algorithm exhibits the same order of accuracy with less computational effort.

  • The nonlinearity parameter is frequently measured as a sensitive indicator in damaged material characterization or tissue harmonic imaging. Several previous studies have employed the plane wave solution, and ignored the effects of beam diffraction when measuring the non-linearity parameter ${\beta}$. This paper presents a multi-Gaussian beam approach to explicitly derive diffraction corrections for fundamental and second harmonics under quasilinear and paraxial approximation. Their effects on the nonlinearity parameter estimation demonstrate complicated dependence of ${\beta}$ on the transmitter-receiver geometries, frequency, and propagation distance. The diffraction effects on the non-linearity parameter estimation are important even in the nearfield region. Experiments are performed to show that improved ${\beta}$ values can be obtained by considering the diffraction effects.

  • Conductance calculation is essential in designing a vacuum system. Since mathematical solution is nearly impossible except for a few simple cases, it has been so usual to calculate the conductance for a series connection of components using an approximate formula by Oatley. However, Oatley's formula has a fundamental flaw of totally neglecting the effect of gas beaming. In this study, a new technique is suggested for calculating the conductance with the same accuracy as the Monte Carlo method but with much less computing time, and applied to a system of tube connections in series. The effects of gas beaming in the calculation of conductance is analyzed quantitatively by comparing the conductance calculated by this method with those from Oatley's formula.

  • Arrangement of individual atoms and molecules with atomic precision and understanding the resulting properties at the molecular level are ultimate goals of chemistry, biology, and materials science. For the past three decades, scanning probe microscopy has made strides towards these goals through the direct observation of individual atoms and molecules, enabling the discovery of new and unexpected phenomena. This talk will discuss the origin of forces governing motion of small organic molecules and their extended self-assembly into two-dimensional surface structures by direct observation of individual molecules using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). In addition, atomic force microscopy (AFM) is utilized for the investigation of fundamental mechanisms of bone mineral dissolution by examining atomically well characterized simulated bone minerals under aqueous solution environments.

  • There are different kinds of aircrafts, such as conventional airplane, rotorcraft, fighter, and unmanned aerial vehicle. Their shape and feature are dependent upon their assigned mission. One of the fundamental analyses during the design of the aircraft is the structural analysis. The structural analysis becomes more complicated and needs more computations because of the on-going complex aircrafts' structure. In order for efficiency in the structural analysis, a simplified approach, such as equivalent beam or plate model, is preferred. However, it is not clear which analysis will be appropriate to analyze the realistic configuration, i.e., an equivalent beam or plate analysis for an aircraft wing. It is necessary to assess the boundary between the one-dimensional beam analysis and the two-dimensional plate theory for an accurate structural analysis. Thus, in this paper, the static structural analysis results obtained by EDISON solvers were compared with the three-dimesional results obtained from MSC NASTRAN. Before that, EDISON program was verified by comparing the results with those from MSC NASTRAN program and analytic solution.

  • The present paper describes an investigation into the application of the artificial neural network in the establishment criterion of redevelopment assignment. From the results, it is found that the artificial neural network algolithm search technique is very effective to find the good optimum solution as well as has higher robustness. So, the results of this research could contribute to making a reasonable assessment criterion of redevelopment assignment which is proper to the situation of Korea.
