The commercial interests in functional foods containing probiotics are gaining significance in view of increasing studies on their role in digestive tract. Probiotic dairy foods containing health-promoting bacteria are important segment of functional food market. Various health benefits have been attributed to specific strains of lactic acid bacteria or food containing these probiotic cultures. Probiotic-containing foods are considered to improve general gut health and natural defenses of body, and lower blood cholesterol level. Specific probiotic microbes can alleviate or prevent diverse intestinal diarrhea-inducing disorders, cause prophylaxis of intestinal and urogenital infections, inhibit mutagenicity of intestinal contents, and reduce incidence of intestinal tumors. Recent increasing evidences on health effects of probiotics have triggered consumer interest in this category of functional foods. Rational approach needs to be applied in selection of strains for probiotic preparation to achieve required functionality. Present article focuses on some prominent probiotic candidates and criteria for their inclusion in functional food sector. Various health claims of probiotics on gastrointestinal disorders, anticarcinogenic effects, and anti-cholestrimic effects, and possible mechanistic explanations for their functionality are highlighted.

The rapid growth of complexity and scale can be witnessed in the design and development of modern systems. As such, the severity of damages in the occasional accidents has attracted great deal of attention lately. Although a variety of methods have so far been studied to overcome or reduce the disastrous results of hazards, the issues seem still persistent and even complicated due to the situation mentioned above. The concept of functional safety has been regarded as one approach to handling the matters by shifting up to the functions level from the consideration of each physical component itself. The outcomes of those efforts would be the international standards on functional safety such as IEC 61508 and its relatives including IEC 62278, EN 50128, ISO26262, and so on. In this paper, a method of how hazards can be analyzed to be coped with those standards has been studied. In the method proposed, the systems modeling language (SysML) is playing a key role to model and analyze the hazards from the viewpoint of functional safety. The approach taken has been applied in the analysis of the hazards in railroad systems. In spite of focusing on the individual components hazards, the method based on functional safety has analyzed them collectively with the added effect of identifying the cause originated from the interface between the functions.

This paper examines key determinants and the effect of country-of-origin on customer's purchase intention of functional food and dietary supplement product in Vietnam. Exploratory study was identified to evaluate personal and social factors on customer's buying behavior. Twenty-eight reflective constructs were adapted from literature and designed by using a seven-point Likert scale to facilitate measurement. By using non-probability convenience sampling, data was collected from a survey of 242 Vietnamese who have experienced in buying functional and supplement food. This paper employed partial least square structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) as a technique employed to analyze the measurement and structural models. The findings provide evidence that social prestige customer perceives and their positive attitude toward functional food which are main factors influencing on consumers' purchase intention. Customer's perceived prestige plays an important role in decision-making process to purchase. The higher social prestige taken up in consumers' mind, the higher consumers' purchase intention is. Moreover, the more positive attitude customer holds toward functional food, the higher consumers' purchase intention. The research results provide useful information in current understanding of what antecedents determine factors influencing customer's intention to purchase functional food and lead to managerial implications for business strategies.

Dietary fiber naturally present in various sources of cereals, legumes, fruits and vegetables plays a physiological role in human health, such as lowering cholesterol and blood pressure, improving blood glucose control in diabetes, helping with weight loss and management, and reducing cancer risk. In addition, dietary fibers have has been added as a functional food ingredient to food products to provide water-holding capacity, viscosity, gel-forming ability, and fat-binding capacity to food products. These beneficial characteristics of dietary fiber components can improve the image of meat products to be healthy and functional food products. This article reviews the concept and current definition of dietary fibers in food products along with their health benefits and functional characteristics. Dietary fibers from different sources like cereals, legumes, fruits, and vegetables and soluble dietary fibers have been applied as functional ingredients to various types of meat products, such as beef patties, ground beef and pork, pork and chicken sausages, meatballs, and jerky etc. Based on the application of dietary fibers to different types of meat products, possible future characteristics in selecting appropriate dietary fiber ingredients and their proper incorporation are explored to develop and produce healthy and functional meat products with high dietary fiber contents.

Nd-Fe-B high performance magnets were prepared by die-upset forging. The effects of the deformation parameters on magnetic properties and flow stress were studied. Deformation temperatures in the range of $600{\sim}900^{\circ}C$ enable to achieve an effective anisotropy and temperature $800^{\circ}C$ proves to be suitable for deformation of Nd-Fe-B magnets. The amount of c-axis alignment along the press direction seems to depend on the amount of deformation and a saturation behavior is shown at deformation ratio of 75%. Magnetic properties are also related to strain rate, and maximum energy product is attained at an optimum strain rate of ${\varphi}=1{\times}10^{-2}s^{-1}$. By analyzing the relationship of stress and strain at different deformation temperature during die-upset forging process, deformation behavior of Nd-Fe-B magnets was studied and parameters for describing plastic deformation were obtained. Nd-rich boundary liquid phase, which is additionally decreasing the flow stress during deformation, is supposed to play the role of diffusion path and enhance the diffusion rate.

In recent years, manufacturers of animal-based foods with health claims have encountered difficulties in the labeling of their products because of a lack of regulation on defining the functionality of animal-based foods. Therefore, this study was conducted to establish the basic requirements for the development of a definition for functional animal-based foods by investigating consumer and industry awareness. Survey data were collected from 114 industry representatives and 1,100 consumers. The questions of the survey included items on production status and future production plans, functionality labeling, promotion plans, establishment of definition, the role of the government, consumer perception, and selection of products. The results show that both industry representatives and consumers believe that legislation and the provision of scientific evidence should be improved for the development of a functional animal-based foods market. The results obtained from this study will contribute to consumer trust by supplying correct information and can be utilized in the industry as basic data for the development of functional animal-based food products.

본 연구는 지방지역에서 주간선도로 및 보조 간선도로의 기능을 수행하도록 규정된 일반국도의 수행기능을 통계적 방법으로 유형화하고, 각 유형별 교통특성 규명에 의한 일반국도의 적정 설계기준을 제안하였다. 전국의 도로망에서 일반국도가 수행하는 기능은 크게 3가지로 유형화할 수 있음을 통계적 방법으로 검증하였으며, 각 유형별 도로 구간의 교통특성 조사 결과, 당초 간선도로로 건설된 일반국도가 그 역할을 충분하게 수행하지 못하는 것으로 판단할 수 있었다. 이러한 문제점의 개선 대안으로 일반국도가 간선도로로서의 역할을 수행할 수 있도록 기능별 설계기준의 차별화와, 목표통행속도 개념을 반영한 부속시설 정비 기준을 제안하였다.

The study aims to analyze the influence of egoistic, altruistic and biospheric value on green functional benefit, green monetary cost, green satisfaction and green loyalty. The study analyzes the effect of green functional benefit and green monetary cost on green satisfaction and green loyalty, as well as green satisfaction on green loyalty. The study employs quantitative methods with customers who have green brand purchase experience in Indonesia. Non-probability sampling was conducted using purposive sampling method based on predetermined criteria, which are customers who have already purchase and use green brand products. A total of 402 samples were analyzed using Structural Equation Modelling. The result shows that the data support hypotheses on egoistic and biospheric value, hypotheses on green functional benefit effect to green satisfaction and green loyalty, as well as green monetary cost effect to green loyalty. The other hypotheses are not supported by data. As a conclusion, it is egoistic and biospheric value that has positive effect on green loyalty, while green functional benefit and green monetary cost act as mediation between the value orientation and green loyalty. As managerial implication, green brand marketing strategy should incorporate egoistic and biospheric values in messages in advertising and promotion.

Lung cancer has become a loading cause of cancer death in Korea. Positron emission tomography was introduced in clinical nuclear medicine in the early 1990s and many studios using this functional imaging technology were performed for evaluation of its clinical utility. I review the current role of positron emission tomography in the diagnosis, staging, and therapy monitoring of lung cancer.

We have previously shown that H-ras, but N-ras, induces an invasiveness and cell motility in human breast epithelial cells (MCFl0A), while both H-ras and N-ras induce transformed phenotype. It has been recently shown that phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K) plays an important role on cell migration. In the present study, we wished to investigate the functional role of PI3K in H-ras-induced invasive phenotype in MCF10A cells.(omitted)
