  • A mobile ultrasound scanner developed for use in point-of-care applications is introduced, which can not only provide ultrasound images but can also measure various bio-signals. The mobile ultrasound scanner is also designed to meet the demanding requirements for point-of-care diagnosis, such as battery-powered operation, portability in terms of size and weigh, and real-time wireless communications capability for remote diagnosis. To meet these requirements, an efficient beamforming method for high resolution imaging with a small number of active elements, a hardware efficient beamformer architecture, and echo processing algorithms with greatly reduced computational complexity have been developed. Experimental results show that the prototype mobile ultrasound scanner is fully functional and satisfies most of the design requirements.

  • This paper describes the architecture and characteristics of the satellite modem unit (SMU) developed for the DAMA-SCPC Ground System(DGS), which is a Demand Assignment Multiple Access-Single Channel per Carrier (DAMA-SCPC) satellite network. There are several requirements for the SMU from the system architecture and design concept. To meet these requirements the SMU was designed and implemented by extensively applying digital signal processing (DSP) technique and field programmable gate array (FPGA). The developed SMU met the functional and performance requirements, and has been working well. The measured BER was about 1 $\times$10E-4 in continuous mode(at Eb/No=4.7, FEC=3/4).

  • In this study, we proposed the social map system prototype for intelligent crime prevention. For developing the social map system prototype, functional requirements were derived through the analysis of related cases and preceding studies. Derived requirements are providing a variety of map-based safety information, using crowdsourcing data such as SNS, connecting to intelligent CCTV. To satisfy these requirements, the prototype is developed with four main menus: the integrated search menu including social media data, the safety map menu providing a variety of safety and danger information, the community map menu to collect safety and danger information from users, and the CCTV menu providing the link to intelligent CCTV. The social map for intelligent crime prevention in this study is expected to greatly enhance the safety of local community with the provision of prompt response to risk information, safe route, etc. through actual service and user participation.

  • Recently, new network systems have begun to emerge (for instance, 5G, IoT, and ICN) that require capabilities beyond that provided by existing IP networking. To fulfill the requirements, some new networking technologies are being proposed. The promising approach of the new networking technology is to try to overcome the architectural limitations of IP networking by adopting an identifier (ID)-based networking concept in which communication objects are identified independently from a specific location and mechanism. However, we note that existing ID-based networking proposals only partially meet the requirements of emerging and future networks. This paper proposes a new ID-based networking architecture and mechanisms, named IDNet, to meet all of the requirements of emerging and future networks. IDNet is designed with four major functional blocks-routing, forwarding, mapping system, and application interface. For the proof of concept, we develop numeric models for IDNet and implement a prototype of IDNet.

  • In this paper, we investigate the scheduling algorithm of router system for Internet service based on the qualify-of-service (QoS) level of the input source traffics. We suggest an approprite scheduling algorithm in order to satisfy their QoS requirements for the loss-sensitive traffic and delay-sensitive traffic. For this purpose, we first study the service requirements of the multiplexer in Internet and the definition of QoS based on the ITU-T white recommendations. Second. we suggest a functional architecture of the multiplexer and the scheduling algorithm to satisfy various QoS requirements for Internet service. Finally. the performance measures of interest, namely steady-state packet loss probability and average delay, are discussed by simulation results.

  • All information system is information security system that enforced security function. To improve qualify of information security system, suity requirement analysis and specification must be Performed by consistently and typically at early requirement analysis step. In this paper, we propose a security requirements analysis and specification model and process by using Misuse Case Model that extends UML's Use Case Model. And, we propose a cost-effective security product selection algorithm that security product is sufficient of all constructed security functional requirements. It may raise quality of information security system that developed through proposed model and process.

  • The SW-centered battlefield management information system R&D project takes a long period of 5-10 years or more by applying a complex and rigid batch acquisition strategy. In order to solve this problem, it is necessary to institutionalize a rapid and flexible battlefield management information system R&D project management procedure applying agile development methodology, and a government project management organization and contract management method to support it In this study, we analyzed the case of applying the Agile development method centered on Scrum to the US SW-centered weapon system R&D project and the characteristics and problems of the battlefield management information system R&D project in Korea, and suggested improvement measures as follows. First, the battlefield management information system R&D model applies the hybrid development method, and the system requirements analysis and system structure design use the existing waterfall development procedure, and the agile method is applied from the SW requirements analysis to the system integration stage. Second, flexible adjustment of performance, schedule, and cost by organizing an Agile IPT in which military (requirements) - DAPA (project management) - developer - functional specialized organizations (test and evaluation, quality, government research institutes, etc.) participate. Third, improving the Basic Order Agreement so that it can be applied to agile R&D.

  • According to ISO 26262 (the international standard on functional safety for automotive industry), the functional safety should be considered during the whole automotive systems life cycle from the design phase throughout the production phase. In order to satisfy the standard, the automotive and related industry needs to take appropriate actions while carrying out a variety of development activities. This paper presents an approach to coping with the standard. Analyzing the standard indicates that the safety issues of the automotive systems should be handled with a system's view whereas the conventional approach to solving the issues has been practiced with focus on the component's level. The aforementioned system's view implies that the functional safety shall be incorporated in the system design from both the system's life-cycle view and the hierarchical view for the structure. In light of this, the systems engineering framework can be quite appropriate in the functional safety development and thus has been taken in this paper as a problem solving approach. Of various design issues, the analysis and verification of the safety requirements for functional safety is a key study subject of the paper. Note, in particular, that the conventional FMEA (failure mode effects analysis) and FTA (fault tree analysis) methods seem to be partly relying on the insufficient experience and knowledge of the engineers. To improve this, a systematic method is studied here and the result is applied in the design of an ABS braking system as a case study.

  • The automotive industry and academic research have been continuously conducting research on standardization such as AUTOSAR (AUTomotive Open System ARchitecture) and ISO26262 to solve problems such as safety and efficiency caused by the complexity of electric/electronic architecture of automotive. AUTOSAR is an automotive standard software platform that has a layered structure independent of MCU (Micro Controller Unit) hardware, and improves product reliability through software modularity and reusability. And, ISO26262, an international standard for automotive functional safety and suggests a method to minimize errors in automotive ECU (Electronic Control Unit)s by defining the development process and results for the entire life cycle of automotive electrical/electronic systems. These design methods are variously applied in representative automotive safety-critical systems. However, since the functional and safety requirements are different according to the characteristics of the safety-critical system, it is essential to research the AUTOSAR functional safety design method specialized for each application domain. In this paper, a software functional safety mechanism design method using AUTOSAR is proposed, and a new failure management framework is proposed to ensure the high reliability of the product. The AUTOSAR functional safety mechanism consists of memory partitioning protection, timing monitoring protection, and end-to-end protection. The fault management framework is composed of several safety SWCs to maintain the minimum function and performance even if a fault occurs during the operation of a safety-critical system. Finally, the proposed method is applied to the Shift-by-Wire system design to prove the validity of the proposed method.
