  • In SCRamjet engine, combustion occurs in supersonic flow with airbreathing. SCRamjet is characterized by very short combustion time in combustor, so it is very important to be mixing the air and fuel in short duration. Several methods are suggested for mixing enhancement. Among these, cavity is selected to study for enhancement of mixing. The numerical simulation is performed in the case of freestream Mach number of 2.5 and cavity located in front of fuel jet injection. CFD-Fastran, commercial code with three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equation with the Menter SST turbulence model were used. The results are obtained validate experiment results for same condition. Therefore, the numerical results show the mixing enhancement characteristics with a cavity.

  • Recently, gas turbines for power generation adopt multistage DLN(Dry Low NOx) type combustion, where diffusion combustion is applied at low load and, with increase in load, the combustion mode is changed to lean premixed combustion to reduce NOx emissive concentration. However, during the mode changeover from diffusion to premixed flame, unfavorable phenomena, such as flashback, high amplitude combustion oscillations, or thermal damage of combustor parts could frequently occur. In the present study, to apply for the analysis of such unfavorable phenomena, three-dimensional CFD investigations are carried out to compare the detailed flow characteristics and temperature distribution inside the gas turbine combustor before and after combustion mode changeover. The fuel considered here is pure methane gas. A standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model with wall function and a P-N type radiation heat transfer model, have been utilized. To analyze the complex geometric effects of combustor parts on combustion characteristics, fuel nozzles, a swirl vane f3r fuel-air mixing, and cooling air holes on the combustor liner wall, are included in this simulation.

  • The spray prepared for direct fuel injection into cylinder is of great importance in a DISI(Direct Injection Spark Ignition) engine. The interaction between air flow and fuel spray was investigated in a steady flow system embodied in a wind tunnel to simulate the variety of in-cylinder flow conditions in the DISI engine. The Mie-scattering images presented the macroscopic view of the liquid spray fields interacting with cross-flow Particle sizes of fuel droplets were measured with phase Doppler anemometer(PDA) system. A faster cross-flow field made SMD larger and $D_10$ smaller. The atomization and evaporation processes with a DISI injector were observed and consequently utilized to construct the database on the spray and fuel-air mixing mechanism as a function of the flow characteristics.

  • In this study, as a fuel filter for automobiles, base paper which can filtrate the polluted particles must satisfy with the standards of each vehicle. and a filter of impregnation paper made that combining the base paper with the resin. Therefore, They were wanted to found out the factors that affect base paper and impregnation paper according to content of HPZ, Mulberry pulp(MP), Laub holze bleached kraft pulp(LBKP). The most important things we wanted to find out in base paper and impregnation paper test were weight, thickness, air permeability, burst and tensile strength, maximum pore size and mean pore size, stiffness. we wanted to measure a rate of change of these condition by adjusting a rate of mixing for HPZ, MP and LBKP. Moreover, It suited for an impregnation paper mixed with a rate of mulberry pulp 20%, HPZ 40% and LBKP 40%. Used resins in this study was Phenol, Acryl, PVAc. And as every resins, sample was divided into existence and nothing of embossing. as a fuel filter for automobiles, It was appeared that the suitable condition of base paper was a rate of mixing for HPZ(40%), MP(20%) and LBKP(40%).

  • This study examines the effect of acoustic excitation using forced coaxial air on the flame characteristics of turbulent hydrogen nonpremixed flames. A resonance frequency was selected to acoustically excite the coaxial air jet due to its ability to effectively amplify the acoustic amplitude and reduce flame length and NOx emissions. Acoustic excitation causes the flame length to decrease by 15 % and consequently, a 25 % reduction in EINOx is achieved, compared to a flame without acoustic excitation. Moreover, acoustic excitation induces periodical fluctuation of the coaxial air velocity, thus resulting in slight fluctuation of the fuel velocity. From phase-lock PIV and OH PLIF measurement, the local flow properties at the flame surface were investigated under acoustic forcing. During flame-vortex interaction in the near field region, the entrainment velocity and the flame surface area increased locally near the vortex. This increase in flame surface area and entrainment velocity is believed to be a crucial factor in reducing flame length and NOx emission in coaxial jet flames with acoustic excitation. Local flame extinction occurred frequently when subjected to an excessive strain rate, indicating that intense mass transfer of fuel and air occurs radially inward at the flame surface.

  • The model cavity scramjet engine experiments are carried out using T3 free-piston shock tunnel. Upstream hydrogen fuel is injected before the cavity with different injection pressure. OH planar laser-induced fluorescence is used to investigate the combustion zone and piezoelectric pressure transducers are used to define the pressure rise due to the combustion. Main combustion region is a mixing layer which is between air and fuel. Also high OH fluorescence signal is appeared in the shear layer above the cavity in high equivalence ratio. From the OH signal in the cavity, this fuel injection system can be a role as a flame-holder.

  • The influence of combustion air at temperatures on nitric oxide emission was studied. The nitric oxide emission generally increases with a rise in the temperature of the combustion air. However, if combustion products for dilution of fuel or combustion air are used before the combustion reaction, then the nitric oxide emission can be reduced even when highly preheated air for combustion air is used. Combustion in low oxygen concentrations flattens the firing mode, resulting in a uniform reaction, and, thus, low nitric oxide emission can be achieved.

  • Higher compression ratio is required in diesel engine to ignite the fuel that leads to better efficiency. For complete combustion inside the cylinder it is important to ensure the clean air flow with free of debris and as cool as possible. In this manner, modification of intake valve arrangements is taken in to consideration importantly. In this paper, the intake valve arrangements are modified with newly designed valve mixer. It causes swirl flow of air through the intake port that mixing with the fuel followed by complete combustion. The use of valve mixer reduces the carbon sediment formation on valve fillet and its face area as the carbon particles gradually take place on it after certain running period. It therefore, helps to increase the valve lifetime. And at the same time it reduces the exhaust elements i.e. soot from the automobiles to a significant level.

  • Recently, many researches have been performed to improve the combustion and emission in a D.I.Diesel engine. Especially reduction of the soot formation in the combustion chamber is the essential to acquire the improvement of the emission performance. This emission of the diesel combustion is effected by the characteristics of air-fuel mixing. Therefore, the optical measurement technique such as LII and LIS were established in order to visualize the distribution of the soot and analyze the particle including spray in the combustion chamber. In this study, we developed the algorithm for calculating relative diameter and density of particle and applied this method to measure stimultaneously the distribution of soot and spray in a D.I. diesel engine. From this experiment we found that the soot is existed in the rich region of spray and generated caused by incapable air fuel mixture.
