Analysis of CANDU-6 Transition Core Refuelled from 37-Element Fuel to CANFLEX-NU Fuel

  • The CANDU-6 transition core refuelled from 37-element fuel to CANFLEX-NU fuel has been evaluated by an 100full power day time-dependent fuel-management simulation to find the core compatibility with the CANFLEX fuel loading. The simulation calculations for the transition core were carried out with the RFSP code, provided by the cell averaged fuel properties obtained from the POWDERPUFS-V code. The simulation results were compared with those of the current 37-element fuel loading only. The results show that the CANFLEX-NU fuel bundles will be compatible with the CANDU-6 reactor because the core physics characteristics of CANFLEX-NU fuel are very similar to those of the 37-element fuel bundle.

  • 연료전지는 석유엔진과 비교하여 높은 전류밀도와 효율성, 그리고 친환경적이기 때문에 21세기 들어 대체 발전시스템으로서 각광받아왔다. 연료전지 시스템에서 고분자 전해질 막은 핵심부품으로써 현재 Nafion막이 연료전지시스템에서 사용 중이지만 높은 제조단가와 고온에서 낮은 전도도를 가지는 단점을 가지고 있다. 그러므로 많은 학자들이 낮은 제조단가, 높은 물리적 특성들을 달성하기 위한 연구를 진행하여 왔으며 연료전지의 상용화와 동시에 고성능의 연료전지의 개발을 위하여 많은 방법들이 개발되어 왔다. 그중, 유무기 복합막은 유기물과 무기물의 물성을 균일하게 조합할 수 있으므로 잠재성을 가지고 있는 제조방법이다. 본고에서는 다양한 무기물이 사용되어 제조된 유무기 복합막의 연구동향에 대하여 조사하였다.

고연소도 신형 Zr피복관의 미세조직과 기계적 특성에 미치는 열처리 및 중성자 조사의 영향 (Effects of Annealing and Neutron Irradiation on Micostructural and Mechanical Properties of High Burn-up Zr Claddings)

  • The changes of microstructural and mechanical properties were evaluated for the high burn-up fuel claddings after the neutron irradiation of $1.8{\sim}3.1{\times}10^{20}n/cm^2$ (E>1.0 MEV) in HANARO research reactor. After the irradiation, the spot-type dislocations (a-type dislocations) were easily observed in most claddings, and the density of the dislocations was different depending on the grains and was higher at grain boundaries than within grains. As the final annealing temperature increased, the density of spot-type dislocations increased and the line-type dislocations (c-type dislocations) which was perpendicular to the <0002> direction, appeared sporadically in some claddings. However, the types of precipitates in the fuel claddings after the irradiation were not changed from that in unirradiated claddings. The mechanical properties including the hardness, strength and elongation after the irradiation were changed due to the formation of spot-type dislocations. That is, the increase in hardness and strength as well as the decrease in elongation after the irradiation was occurred simultaneously with increasing the final annealing temperature. Owing to the Nb contribution to the formation of spot-type dislocation during the irradiation, the increase in hardness and strength in higher Nb-contained Zr alloys after the irradiation was higher than that in lower Nb-contained Zr alloys.

남극유 대체연료 적합성 연구 (Study of Alternative Fuel Suitability for Special Antarctic Blend Diesel)

  • 극지방은 혹한의 날씨로 인해 일반 석유제품을 사용할 경우, 석유제품 내 왁스 성분 등이 고체상으로 석출되어 원활한 연료공급 등에 문제발생을 일으킬 수 있다. 따라서 극지방에서 사용하는 석유제품은 혹한의 온도에 적합하게 생산, 판매되고 있지만 해외로부터 공급받고 있어, 수급의 어려움이 존재한다. 본 연구에서는 기존 남극유를 대체할 수 있는 석유제품을 검토하기 위해 기존 연료에 대한 연료적 특성을 분석한 뒤, 저온특성이 우수한 항공유에 윤활성 향상제를 일정농도 첨가하여, 남극유 대체연료로서 연료적 특성을 분석하였다. 분석결과, 윤활성 향상제인 R621A제품의 윤활성이 가장 우수하였으며, 윤활성 향상제 첨가량이 증가할수록 윤활성이 증가하였지만, 1000 mg/L만 첨가하여도 충분한 윤활성 향상효과를 보였다. 따라서 항공유에 윤활성 향상제를 첨가한 대체연료는 극지방의 혹한 기온에서 사용하여도 큰 문제가 없을 것으로 판단된다.

수분오염에 따른 경유의 연료적 특성 (The Fuel Characteristics of Diesel by Water Contamination)

  • It rains heavily, such as long rain and typhoons, during a typical rainy season in Korea. In this season, several fuel contamination accidents by water and vehicular problems caused by water contaminated fuel occur. Many research groups have studied the effects of water contaminated fuel on vehicles and environment. However the characteristics of water contaminated fuel have not been studied. In this study, we prepared diesel samples with a constant ratio of water (0~30 volume %) using an emulsifier. Then, we analyzed these diesel samples for their representative fuel properties. In the analytical results, diesel with 30% water showed an increase in fuel properties such as density (823→883 kg/㎥), kinematic viscosity (2.601→6.345 ㎟/s), flash point (47→56℃), pour point (-22→2℃), CFPP (cold filter plugging point) (-17→20℃) and copper corrosion number (1a→2a). The low temperature characteristics, such as low pour point and CFPP, blocks the fuel filter in the cold season. In addition, water contaminated diesel decreases lubricity (190→410 ㎛) under high frequency reciprocating rig (HFRR) and derived cetane number (54.81→34.25). The low lubricity of fuel causes vehicle problem such as pump and injector damage owing to severe friction. In addition, the low cetane diesel fuel increases exhaust gases such as NOx and particulate matters (PM) owing to incomplete combustion. This study can be used to identify the problems caused by water contamination to vehicle and fuel facilities.

  • 본 연구에서는 고체산화물연료전지에서 사용되고 있는 전해질의 직접탄소연료전지로의 적용가능성을 평가하기 위해 YSZ 전해질의 특성을 평가하였다. 전해질 층은 진공 슬러리 코팅 법을 사용하여 연료극 지지체위에 형성하였으며, 코팅 후 $1,400^{\circ}C$에서 5시간 동안 열처리하여 미세조직, 가스투과도 및 이온 전도도 측정을 통해 직접탄소연료전지로의 적용가능성을 확인하였다. YSZ 전해질은 얇고 치밀한 층을 형성하였으며 낮은 가스 투과도 값을 나타내었다. 이와같은 결과를 바탕으로 직접탄소 연료전지에 YSZ 전해질을 적용하였으며, 단위전지를 제작하여 $800^{\circ}C$에서 성능평가를 수행하였다.

  • Recently, lots of researchers have been attracted to develop various alternative fuels in diesel engine. The use of biodiesel fuel(BDF) is an effective way of substituting diesel fuel in the long run. But biodiesel fuel can affect the performance and emissions in diesel engine because it has different chemical and physical properties from diesel fuel. In this study, to investigate the combustion characteristics of biodiesel fuel as an alternative fuel for D.I. diesel engine, experiments were carried out at the three-cylinder, four stroke D.I. diesel engine with T/C. As a result, shorter ignition delays were observed for the biodiesel blend cases relative to the diesel oil. The pick value of premixed combustion for the rate of heat release is increased with decreasing C.F.W. temperature.

  • Welding is required for a connection between two different components in the nuclear fuel of a pressurized water reactor. This work relies on a mechanical experiment and analytic results to investigate the structural integrity of nuclear fuel in a situation where some components are not welded to each other. A series of lateral vibration tests are performed in a test facility, and the test structures are examined in terms of dynamic behavior. In the tests, the displacement signal at every grid structure that sustains fuel rods is measured and processed to identify the dynamic properties. The fluid-elastic stability of the structure is also analyzed to evaluate susceptibility to a cross flow with an assumed conservative cross flow distribution. The test and analysis results confirm that the structural integrity can be maintained even in the absence of some welding connections.

  • The simulated DUPIC fuel provides a convenient way to investigate fuel properties and behaviours such as thermal conductivity, thermal expansion, fission gas release, leaching and so on. Several pellets simulating the composition and microstructure of the DUPIC fuel were fabricated from resintering powder through the OREOX process of the simulated spent fuel pellets, which were prepared from the mixture of stable forms of constituent nuclides. This study describes the powder treatment, OREOX, compaction and sintering to fabricate simulated DUPIC fuel using the simulated spent fuel. The homogeneity of additives in the powder was observed after attrition milling. The microstructure of the simulated spent fuel was in agreement with the previous studies. The densities and the grain size of simulated DUPIC fuel was pellets are higher than those of simulated spent fuel pellets. Small metallic precipitates and oxide precipitates were observed on matrix grain boundaries.

  • 본 논문은 Indolene-Methanol Plus Higher Alcohols(MPHA)의 연료 특성에 관한 연구로서, 연료의 물성치를 측정하여 조사하였다. 특히 연료의 물성치 중에서 증류특성, 발열량, 인화점, 비중 및 내수성 등을 조사하여 나타내었다. 이때 알콜의 농도는 청정 Indolene의 용적에 따라서 0 에서부터 100%까지 변화하였다. 연료 물성치 측정에서 Indolene-MPHA 혼합물들이 일반적으로 Indolent-Methanol 혼합물과 비교해서 높은 내수성, 유사한 비중과 인화점, 서로 다른 증류특성을 가지고 있음을 알 수 있다. 여기에서 혼합물 물성치 중 상당수는 실제 값과 비교하여 성분들의 중량비를 사용하여 계산하였다.
