This study was carried out to investigate the effects of concentration and kinds of cryoprotectants, equilibraction time, thawing temperature and time, sucrose concentration on the survival rates of frozen bovine demi-embryos. The bovine demi-embryos following dehydration by cryoprotectants a various concentration of sucrose were freezed by cell freezer and thawed in 3$0^{\circ}C$ water bath. Survival and in vitro developmental rates was defined as development rates on in vitro culture or FDA-test. The results are summarized as follows : 1. The high survival rates of demi-embryos after frozen-thawing in freezing medium was attained 2.0M glycerol. The high survival rates of demi-embryos after frozen-thawing in freezing medium was obtained using single cryoprotectant(25.0~30.0%) than mixed cryoprotectants(16.7~19.0%). 2. The survival rates of demi-embryos after frozen-thawing in freezing medium added 1.5M, 2.0M glycerol+0.25M sucrose(37.5~33.3%) were higher survival rates than those of sucrose concentration of 0.50, 0.75M(12.5~26.7%). 3. The equilibration time on the survival rates of demi-embryos was attained after short period of time(30.0~35.0%) in the freezing medium higher than long period of time(21.1%). 4. The thawing temperature on the survival rates of demi-embryos was attained at 3$0^{\circ}C$ of thawing temperature(26.7~40.0%) higher than $25^{\circ}C$ or 37$^{\circ}C$ of thawing temperature(13.3~20.0%). 5. The thawing time on the survival rates of demi-embryos was attained at 1~5 minutes of thawing time(26.7~33.3%) in the freezing medium higher than 10 minutes of thawing time(13.3~18.8%).

This study was carried out to evaluate the effects of washing medium, breed and washing temperature of fresh and frozen-thawed boar sperm on mitochondrial activity and membrane integrity by flow cytometry. More than $80\%$ of fresh sperm washed with mTLP-PVA medium at $20^{\circ}C$ exhibited an intact membrane and a functional mitochondrion. With frozen-thawed samples, a large number of sperm showed both damaged membrane $(36.4\~46.9\%)$ and nonfunctional mitochondrion $(55.1\~71.1\%)$ in the mTLP-PVA and BTS washing media at $20^{\circ}C$. There were no breed effects of fresh and frozen-thawed sperm on mitochondrial activity and membrane integrity. The percentages of damaged membrane of fresh and frozen sperm, respectively, were higher at $4^{\circ}C$ washing temperature than at $20^{\circ}C$ washing temperature in the mTLP-PVA medium. We found that washing medium and washing temperature of fresh and frozen-thawed boar sperm were important for the analyses of mitochondrial activity and membrane integrity by flow cytometry.
This experiment was carried out to investigate the effects of osmolarity of thawing diluents, seminal plasma added in thawing diluents on the sperm viability and the effects of thawing temperature, the temparature of the thawing diluents on the sperm viability and acrosomal morphology of boar spermatozoa by the straw method. The result obtained were summarized as follows: 1. The sperm viablilty after thawing of the frozen semen was shown greater in the high osmolarity(392~492mOsm) than low osmolarity(300mOsm) in thawing diluent. The added levels of seminal plasma in thawing diluent did not affect the viability of frozen-thawed boar semen. 2. In terms of thawing temperature, the sperm viability was shown higher in the frozen semen thawed at 5$0^{\circ}C$ for one min. (p<0.01) than those thawed at 2$0^{\circ}C$ or 37$^{\circ}C$ for one min. The sperm viability was not significant at the diluent temparature of 2$0^{\circ}C$or 37$^{\circ}C$ after thawing: but the sperm viability was higher in thawing diluent at 2$0^{\circ}C$ than in that at 37$^{\circ}C$. However, the effects of thawing temperature and diluent solution on normal acrosomal rate were not significant. 3. Cleavage rates of oocytes fertilized with frozen semen were 46.4% and 43.3%, respectively, which were thawed at 5$0^{\circ}C$ for one min. and then diluted in mBTS medium at 2$0^{\circ}C$or 37$^{\circ}C$. To sum up, the sperm viability was shown greater at the high of thawing diluents of frozen boar semen. In terms of thawing conditions, the sperm viability was shown greater, when semen was thawed at a high temperature for a short time and then diluted at the same temperature as that in the straw.

To evaluate the sensory characteristics of domestic or imported chilled and frozen pork butts, six samples were purchased and investigated. Sixty panels of sensory evaluation were consisted of six groups by sex and age. In the appearance test, many panels preferred the domestic frozen butt A obtained good scores in fat color and fat attachment (p<0.001). In the age group, the 20's consumer preferred the domestic chilled pork butt of A company, whereas the 30's and 40's consumers preferred the imported frozen butt of A company. According to the results from the triangle test, the combinations of domestic frozen butt B and imported frozen butt A was the most significantly distinguished among the pairs of raw and cooked butts.
Effects of vitamin C on the properties of bread including number of yeast cells, volume of bread, specific loaf volume, and hardness and sensory characteristics were evaluated. Vitamin C was added at various amounts to frozen doughs made through sponge &dough method using sweet dough formula and quickly frozen at $-40^{\circ}C$. Doughs were stored for 4 weeks at $-20^{\circ}C$. Evaluations were done after frozen dough was thawed, fermented, and baked every week. The bread with 150 ppm vitamin C revealed higher yeast cell survival rate during freezing storage, and higher specific and bread volumes than other doughs. Hardness of bread increased with increasing amount of vitamin C added. Bread with 100 ppm vitamin C revealed the highest sensory score. Consequently, addition of 100 ppm vitamin C to bread dough resulted in the highest overall evaluation.
The mechanical behavior of frozen soils is different from that of unfrozen soils due to the phase change between water and ice. The strength characteristics of frozen soils are governed by the intrinsic material properties such as grain size, ice and water content, air bubbles, and by externally imposed testing conditions such as temperature, freezing time, and strain rate. Especially, the strength of the frozen soils is generally higher than that of unfrozen soils due to ice binding capacity with soil particles, and is strongly affected by a highly complex interaction between the solid soil skeleton and the pore matrix, composed of ice and unfrozen water. In this study, the direct shear test and unconfined compression test are carried out inside of a large-scaled freezing chamber, and the relationships between cohesion and unconfined compression strength under various freezing temperature conditions are discussed.

To investigate the effects of seeding during freezing procedure on post-thaw viability, motility, and acrosome integrity of boar spermatozoa, semen from 5 Yorkshire boars were collected for this experiment. Raw semen were diluted with Merck I, subsequently added with cooling diluent containing lactose and egg yolk and with freezing diluent containing glycerol. The diluted semen were frozen on the rack in the styrofoam box filled with liquid nitrogen at the distance of 5 cm or I cm above LN2 level. Seeding was performed to only a group of straws frozen at 5 cm away on the surface of LN2. The frozen semen were thawed in $50^{\circ}C$C water and the viability and local motility were analyzed by sperm analysis imaging system. A part of thawed semen was taken for the examination of morphology of apical ridge of the acrosome to compare with the effect of seeding between the seeding-treated and non treated groups. I. Post-thaw viability was considerably higher in seeding-treated sperm than non-seeding group (p<0.01), however, no difference of local motility was obtained among the groups. 2. At three hours after thawing, viability was also higher in seeding-treated group than non-treated group (p<0.05), along with no difference of motility among the groups. 3. Higher normal acrosome integrity was obtained in the seeding-treated sperm than non-treated groups (p<0.01). 4. Between non-seeded groups, higher normal acrosome integrity was obtained in the sperm group frozen at 5cm upper on the surface of LN2 than that frozen at 1cm away (p<0.01). These results indicated that seeding treatment during freezing boar spermatozoa was beneficial to post-thaw viability and normal acrosome integrity.
Qualify changes of the precooked frozen sardine (Sardinops melanosticta) during frozen storage were investigated by measuring extractable protein, expressible drip, available lysine and lipid oxidation as peroxide value. Fresh sardine was dressed, washed in chilled water, cooked in boiling water to have $55^{\circ}C\;and\;70^{\circ}$ at the center of the body, frozen at $-40^{\circ}C$, and finally stored at $-20^{\circ}C$ for 84 days. The quality factor mentioned above were determined in both ordinary and dark muscle at 14 day intervals through the period of storage. When cooked at $70^{\circ}C$, the changes in expressible drip were less than that of raw and the one cooked at $55^{\circ}C$. In observation of the extractability of muscle protein, no great change in extractable sarcoplasmic protein was observed, the extractable myofibrillar protein, however, showed a tendency to decrease during the period of frozen storage, accompanying the increase of the alkali-soluble protein. That was more excessive in ordinary muscle than dark muscle. Lipid oxidation of dark muscle was faster than that of ordinary muscle. Acid value was not changed, and peroxide value of the samples cooked at $70^{\circ}C\;and\;55^{\circ}$ was higher than that of raw at the early stage of the storage, after 40-50 day storage, it became lower than that of raw muscle.
Frozen dough made by sponge and dough method using sweet dough formula was quickly frozen at $-40^{\circ}C$ and stored for 8 weeks at $-20^{\circ}C$. Effects of vital wheat gluten on number of yeast cells, bread volume, specific loaf volume, hardness, and sensory properties of bread were investigated. Dough added with 4% vital wheat gluten showed higher yeast cell survival rate during freeze storage and larger specific loaf volume than other doughs. Hardness value increased with increasing amount of vital wheat gluten added, whereas, in frozen dough stored more than 4 weeks, dough added with 2% vital wheat gluten showed lower hardness value than others. Bread made with 4% vital wheat gluten showed highest sensory score.
Recently the world has been suffering from difficulties related to the demand and supply of energy due to the democratic movements sweeping across the Middle East. Consequently, many have turned their attention to never-developed extreme regions such as the polar lands or deep sea, which contain many underground resources. This research investigated the strength and initial elastic modulus values of eternally frozen ground through a uniaxial compression test and indirect tensile test using frozen artificial soil specimens. To ensure accurate test results, a sandymud mixture of standard Jumunjin sand and kaolinite (20% in weight) was used for the specimens in these laboratory tests. Specimen were prepared by varying the water content ratio (7%, 15%, and 20%). Then, the variation in the strength value, depending on the water content, was observed. This research also established three kinds of environments under freezing temperatures of $-5^{\circ}C$, $-10^{\circ}C$, and $-15^{\circ}C$. Then, the variation in the strength value was observed, depending on the freezing environment. In addition, the tests divided the loading rate into 6 phases and observed the variation in the stress-strain ratio, depending on the loading rate. The test data showed that a lower freezing temperature resulted in a larger strength value. An increase in the ice content in the specimen with the increase in the water content ratio influenced the strength value of the specimen. A faster load rate had a greater influence on the uniaxial compression and indirect tensile strengths of a frozen specimen and produced a different strength engineering property through the initial tangential modulus of elasticity. Finally, the long-term strength under a constant water content ratio and freezing temperature was checked by producing stress-strain ratio curves depending on the loading rate.
