Development of Instructional Materials for Micro-UAV Design and Production Program using 3D Printers and Its Application (3D 프린팅을 이용한 소형 무인기 설계·제작 교육 프로그램을 위한 수업자료 개발과 적용)

  • This study introduces the development and application of instructional materials for a micro-UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) design and manufacturing program in university education for freshman/sophomore students. The ADDIE methodology was applied to the development of educational materials, which consist of 15 lessons including the aircraft design theory, 3D CAD modeling, 3D printing production, and UAV flight control. The validity of the program was evaluated with 8 expert panels. A total of 82 participants from engineering and social science grouped the 16 teams for the creative UAV wing design and cooperative interactions. The results of overall program satisfaction survey was measured highly as the average 4.54 (out of 5), so that the students were content with the professional engineering knowledge, 3D digital tools, and the opportunity to design and manufacture airplanes on their own. In conclusion, it can be confirmed that the developed program is effective for UAV education for junior level college student.

A study on the Personality of Freshman Nursing Students (간호대학 신입생의 인성과 자아존중감에 관한 연구)

  • Purpose. This study is a descriptive study to investigate the effect of freshmen nursing students personality. Methods. Participants were 237 nursing students who studied in 2 nursing colleges in B metropolitan. The period of data collection was from April 1 to 12, 2019. All of this data is analyzed by Frequencies, mean, standard deviation, t-test, one way ANOVA, and Multiple regression using the SPSS 23.0 program. Results. First, the mean score of the personality and self-esteem were $4.03{\pm}0.57$ and $3.87{\pm}0.84points$. Second, personality was significantly different according to perceived family economic status, perceived interpersonal relations, academic stress, and satisfaction on nursing major. Third, the influencing factor in personality of participants was self-esteem, adjusted R2=.188(p<.001). Conclusions. Development of guidance program to improve level of personality and self-esteem of freshmen nursing students is recommended.

A Study on Ethical Job Behavior Level of Some Dental Hygiene Students

  • The purpose of this study was to find the ethical values of dental hygiene students, to establish the right ethical values of the students, and to provide a fundamental material for the ethical education direction and curriculum of the students. In order to examine the general characteristics and ethical job behavior level among dental hygiene students, a research was conducted from 1st April 2017 to $30^{th}$ June 2017 through selecting freshman, sophomore, junior and senior students currently enrolled in the department of dental hygiene at 5 different colleges as the subjects. Statistical analysis was performed using IBM SPSS 22. The frequency analysis was used to examine their general characteristics. The independent t-test was used to examine their ethical job behavior according to their religion, hospital practice experience and code of ethics as a dental hygienist, and the one-way ANOVA was used to examine their ethical job behavior according to grade-specific characteristics. Lastly, the Scheffe's post hoc test was conducted. The significance level was 0.05. Given the results, ethical job behavior was significantly different between the group of students with religion, the group of students with hospital practice experience, different school year students, and the group of students aware of code of ethics as a dental hygienist.

A Case Study on Item Analysis and Standard Setting of the Physics Basic Ability Test for Engineering College Students (공학계열 대학생 물리 기초학력평가 문항분석 및 성취수준 설정 사례연구)

  • This study is to examine the validity of assessing basic-level proficiency in physics among incoming engineering freshmen through item analysis and standard setting. For empirical analysis, we examined the physics subject taken by the freshman class of 2021 at K University, considering its significance for engineering students. In this study, we initially performed item analysis utilizing both classical test theory and item response theory. Subsequently, leveraging the item and test information, we employed a modified Angoff method and the Bookmark method for standard setting. Consequently, the difficulty level initially set during item development was found to be higher than the actual performance level exhibited by the students. This study highlights a discernible disparity between the expected university standard and the real proficiency level of incoming freshmen in terms of basic academic ability in physics. Based on these research findings, a comprehensive discussion on the fundamental academic competence of engineering students was conducted, underscoring the necessity for formulating a tailored learning approach leveraging the outcomes from the basic ability test.

A Gender Comparative Study on South Korean Youth Internet Addiction

  • As a part of advanced technology society, South Korean youth have been accessing the Internet at a very high pace. The Internet overuse could yield addiction where may be a serious psychological disorder of this century. The literature remarks that gender could make a significant difference on internet addiction. Therefore, this study aims to examine the effect of gender variable on internet addiction for a sample of South Korean university students (n = 815; 312 females and 503 males). The instrument had two sections; the demographics and twenty Internet Addiction survey items based on a five level scale; "Rarely, Occasionally, Frequently, Often and Always". The results showed that general tendency among the participants appeared between "Occasionally" and "Frequently" for internet addiction. In order to test five derived study hypotheses, the researchers conducted comparative statistical tests. The t-tests revealed that gender made statistically significant differences on nineteen items where males were higher than females showing that males significantly spend more time on the Internet than females. Additionally, t-tests results showed that seventeen of the survey items showed statistically significant differences with respect to types of technology dominant environment. The researchers created two dummy variables to combine gender and technology dominant environment variables and gender and school year variables, to have a better understanding the gender effect with one-way ANOVA. The gender difference still exists following its merge to technology dominant environment showing that the gender surpasses IT related environment. When school year combines to gender, males show higher scores for certain items, especially for freshman year.

A Diagnostic Study on Levels of College Students' Characteristics for Liberal Arts Education in Fostering Characteristic Competencies

  • Many South Korean universities highly value and place much investment on the development of students' characteristics as their core competency, offering corresponding educational initiatives and programs. The present study specifically evaluated the level of characteristic competency among freshmen at C University, in which characteristic development is at the central to the institution's core competency. The researchers conducted the study to utilize the findings to inform the design of liberal arts courses and extracurricular programs. The study recruited 210 freshmen at C University in Changwon, South Korea. To ensure anonymity of the respondents, an online questionnaire was administered during the data collection period (i.e., between December 5th and 7th, 2022) with a total of 201 faithful responses finally analyzed. The results showed an average characteristic competency level of 4.21 out of 5 among the freshman participants. Notably, the highest score was ranked in the 'righteous domain' (4.27±0.66), whereas the 'behavioral domain' scored the lowest (4.08±0.77). These findings provide valuable insights for the development of educational programs that aim to promote characteristic competency among university students. The implications of the findings are further discussed.

The Effect of Interdisciplinary Cooperation Project Learning on Communication, Problem-Solving, and Self-Directed Learning Ability of University Students (전공 간 협력 프로젝트 학습이 대학생의 의사소통, 문제해결, 자기주도적 학습능력에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore how an educator can empower students by fostering communication, problem-solving, and self-directed learning ability. Method: In order to accomplish this purpose, 136 students who were attending J University and 105 students attending M University participated in the questionnaire. The students were freshman in the nursing or social welfare departments, There were 136 in the control group and 105 in the experimental group. The control group was given an applicable class of project learning. On the other hand, the experimental group was given traditional lessons once a week for 15 weeks. The research instrument used the measuring instruments developed by KEDI for communication and problem-solving and self-directed learning ability. Data was analysed by ANCOVA with SPSS/PC. Result: The results of analysis show that communication, problem-solving, and self-directed learning ability significantly increased in the experimental group. Conclusion: Based on the research finding, project learning has an educational value. Interdisciplinary cooperation project learning is effective for communication, problem-solving, and self-directed learning ability.

Study of Association between the Results of Health Examination for University Freshman and Sasang Constitution (대학교 신입생 건강검진에서 시행된 신체계측, 혈액검사, 음주 흡연 여부와 사상체질의 연관성 평가)

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the association between the results such as height, weight, body index mass, laboratory values, drinking, smoking habit which is performed in Health examination and Sasang constitution. From this, we want to suggest the objective standard for discriminating Sasang constitutions. The subjects of this study were 1,570 college freshmen for which QSCCII were surveyed to discriminate of Sasang constitution. All the data were analysed by descriptive statistics and chi-square test for explanation of interesting variables. We used logistic regression model to extract significant factors for discriminating Taeeumin from Soeumin, Soyangin from Taeeumin, Soeumin from Soyangin and to get each odds ratio. Taeeumin group showed significantly higher AST, TG, LDL, BUN, Creatinine level and lower HDL level. And Taeeumin group also showed the hightest value of BMI ($24.8{\pm}3.65\;kg/m^2$). And according to logistic regression analysis, BMI and Weight were the most effective factors for discriminating each constitution groups. From the above results, we have to consider BMI as an objective standard for discriminating Sasang constitutions.

A Study on the Relationship Between Personality, Learning Attitude and Academic Achievement of Nursing Students (간호대학생의 MBTI 성격유형과 학습태도, 학업성취도간의 상관성)

  • Purpose: This study was to explore the relationship between personality type and learning attitude and academic achievement of nursing students. Method: 91 students were sampled from freshman in nursing school. Data were collected from April 2 to October 5 2007. Analysis of the results were carried out using SPSS win 12.0 for frequency, mean and standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation. Result: The result of MBTI test was that nursing students in this study showed extraversion(52.7%), sensing(82.4%), thinking(56.0%), judging(57.1%). Academic achievement according to personality was that only feeling(F) type students had significantly higher score of English than thinking(T) type students(p=.013). Learning attitudes according to personality were that sensing(S) type students had significantly positive attitude toward their college than intuition(N) type students (p=.016). And think(T) type students had significantly higher confidence of learning than feeling(F) type students. There was significant positive correlations between learning method and score of English, Fundamental Nursing, Anatomy(p<..05). Conclusions: Diagnosing personality can differentiate student's learning attitude. It is important to develop teaching-learning strategies according to their personality, which can help them to improve their academic achievement.

Computer Pre-Service Teachers' Motivations of Entering College of Education, Pedagogical Contents Knowledge, Study of subject matter, and Vision Formation (중등 컴퓨터 예비교사의 진학 동기, 교과교육학 지식, 전공 공부 및 비전 형성)

  • In this study, we analyze the phenomena of professional development under the four categories: motivation toward entering college of education, pedagogical content knowledge, study of subject matter and future vision. We conducted a survey method for almost 60 computer education majors at S university ranging from freshman up to junior levels and interviewed 5 selected participants. According to SPSS analysis, there was no significant level difference in any category while male students responded more positively than female students in all the categories. To explore the survey results deeply, we selected 3 students from sophomore and junior levels and 2 extra senior students to conduct interviews. The interpretation of the data indicated how their academic problems revealed due to heavy curricular loads seeking second major and difficulties of pursuing pedagogical contents knowledge.
