Modern power systems are very complex and to model them completly is impractical for electromgnetic transient studies. Therefore areas outside the immediate area of interest must be represented by some form of Frequency Dependent Network Equivalent (FDNE). In this paper a method for developing FDNE is presented and demonstrated. The FDNE is generated by Linearized Least Square fitting the frequency response of a z-domain formulation. The advantage of this approach is that a direct implementation occurs which dose not incur errors due to discretization inherent with implementing a fitting function in the s-domain. The developed FDNE is accurate and efficient.

This paper presents the method for structure borne noise analysis of a flexible body in multibody system. The proposed method is the superposition method using flexible muitibody dynamic analysis and finite element one. This method is executed in 3 steps. In the la step, time dependent quantities such as dynamic loads, modal coordinates ana gross body motion of the flexible body are calculated efficiently through flexible multibody dynamic analysis. And frequency response functions are computed using Fourier transforms of those time dependent quantities. In the 2$\^$nd/ step, acoustic pressure coefficients are obtained through structure-acoustic coupling analysis by finite element analysis. In the final step, frequency responses of acoustic pressure at the acoustic nodes are recovered through linear superposition of frequency response functions with acoustic pressure coefficients. The accuracy of the proposed method is verified in the numerical example of a simple car model.

This paper presents a time domain method for soil-structure interaction analysis for seismic loadings. It is based on the finite element formulation incorporating analytical frequency-dependent infinite elements for the far-field soil. The dynamic stiffness matrices of the far-field region formulated in frequency domain using the present method can be easily transformed into the corresponding matrices in time domain. Hence the response can be analytical computed in time domain. Example analysis has been carried out to verify the present method for an embedded block in a multi-layered half-space. The present methods can be easily extended to the nonlinear analysis since the response analysis is carried out in time domain.
The CO molecules adsorbed on Ni(111) surface is studied in the cluster approximation employing EH method with self-consistent charge iteration. The effect of CO coverage is simulated by allowing the variation of valence state ionization potentials of each Ni atom in model cluster according to the self-consistent charge iteration method. The CO coverage dependent C-O stretching frequency shift, adsorption site conversion, and metal work function change are attributed to the charge transfer between metal surface and adsorbate. For CO/Ni(111) system, net charge transfer from Ni surface to chemisorbed CO molecules makes surface Ni atoms be more positive with increasing coverage, and lowers Ni surface valence band. This leads to a weaker interaction between metal surface valence band and Co $2{\pi}^{\ast}$ MO, less charge transfer to a single CO molecule, and the bule shift of C-O stretching frequency. Further increase of coverage induces the conversion of 3-fold site CO to lower coordination site CO as well as the blue shift of C-O stretching frequency. This whole process is accompanied by the continuous increase of metal work function.
Space-based automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast (ADS-B) is an important emerging augmentation of existing ground-based ADS-B systems. In this paper, the problem of space-based ultra-long-range reception processing of ADS-B signals is described. We first introduce a header detection method for accurately determining the pulse position of a weak ADS-B signal. We designed a signal encoding method, shaping method, and fitness function. We then employed a genetic algorithm to perform high-precision frequency and phase estimations of the detected weak signal. The advantage of this algorithm is that it can simultaneously estimate the frequency and phase, meaning a direct coherent demodulation can be implemented. To address the computational complexity of the genetic algorithm, we improved the ratio algorithm for frequency estimation and raised the accuracy beyond that of the original ratio algorithm with only a slight increase in the computational complexity using relatively few sampling points.
This paper examines the dynamic response of rotating nanodevices under the external harmonic load. The spinning nanosystem is made of nanoscale tubes that rotate around the central nanomotor and is mathematically modeled via high-order beam theory as well as nonclassical nonlocal theory for the size impact. According to the Hamilton principle, the dynamic motion equations are derived, then the time-dependent results are obtained using the Newmark Beta technique along with the generalized differential quadratic method. The presented results are discussed dynamic deflection, resonant frequency, and natural frequency in response to the different applicable parameters, which help develop and produce nanoelectromechanical systems (NEMS) for various applications.
Cable supported structures have been widely used in civil engineering. Cable tension estimation has great importance in cable supported structures' analysis, ranging from design to construction and from inspection to maintenance. Even though the Bernoulli-Euler beam element is commonly used in the traditional finite element method for calculation of frequency and cable tension estimation, many elements must be meshed to achieve accurate results, leading to expensive computation. To improve the accuracy and efficiency, a dynamic finite element method for estimation of cable tension is proposed. In this method, following the dynamic stiffness matrix method, frequency-dependent shape functions are adopted to derive the stiffness and mass matrices of an exact beam element that can be used for natural frequency calculation and cable tension estimation. An iterative algorithm is used for the exact beam element to determine both the exact natural frequencies and the cable tension. Illustrative examples show that, compared with the cable tension estimation method using the conventional beam element, the proposed method has a distinct advantage regarding the accuracy and the computational time.

In a power grid that has a high penetration of wind power, the highly-fluctuating output power of wind turbine generators (WTGs) adversely impacts the power quality in terms of the system frequency. This paper proposes a power smoothing scheme of a variable-speed WTG that can smooth its fluctuating output power caused by varying wind speeds, thereby improving system frequency regulation. To achieve this, an additional loop relying on the frequency deviation that operates in association with the maximum power point tracking control loop, is proposed; its control gain is modified with the rotor speed. For a low rotor speed, to ensure the stable operation of a WTG, the gain is set to be proportional to the square of the rotor speed. For a high rotor speed, to improve the power smoothing capability, the control gain is set to be proportional to the cube of the rotor speed. The performance of the proposed scheme is investigated under varying wind speeds for the IEEE 14-bus system using an EMTP-RV simulator. The simulation results indicate that the proposed scheme can mitigate the output power fluctuation of WTGs caused by varying wind speeds by adjusting the control gain depending on the rotor speed, thereby supporting system frequency regulation.
Single phase of multicomponent oxide ZrTiO4 film could be prepared through surface sol-gel route simply by coating the mixture of 100 mM zirconium butoxide and titanium butoxide on $Pt/Ti/SiO_2Si(100)$ substrate, following pyro lysis at $450^{\circ}C$, and annealing it at 770 $^{\circ}C.$ The dielectric constant of the film was reduced as the film thickness decreased due to of the interfacial effects caused by layer/electrode and a few voids inside the multilayer. However, the dielectric property was independent of applied dc bias sweeps voltage (-2 to +2 V).The dielectric constant of bulk film, 31.9, estimated using series-connected capacitor model was independent of film thickness and frequency in the measurement range, but theoretical interfacial thickness, ti, was dependent on the frequency. It reached a saturated ti value, $6.9{\AA}$, at high frequency by extraction of some capacitance component formed at low frequency range. The dielectric constant of bulk ZrTiO4 pellet-shaped material was 33.7 and very stable with frequency promising as good applicable devices.

We present our efforts for extending the simultaneous multi-frequency receiver system of the Korean Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) Network (KVN) to global baselines in order to measure the frequency-dependent position shifts in Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) jets, the so called core shift effect, with an unprecedented accuracy (a few micro-arcseconds). Millimeter VLBI observations with simultaneous multi-frequency receiver systems, like those of the KVN, enable us to explore the innermost regions of AGN and high precision astrometry. Such a system is capable of locating the frequency dependent opacity changes accurately. We have conducted the feasibility test-observations with the interested partners by implementing the KVN-compatible systems. Here we describe the science case for measuring the core shift effect in the AGN jet and report progress and future plans on extending the simultaneous multi-frequency system to global baselines.
