Signal processing technique of linear frequency modulation-frequency shift keying (LFM-FSK) waveform has been introduced for rear view radars of an automobile. LFM-FSK waveform consists of two sequential stepped frequency waveforms with some frequency offset, and thus, can be used to generate inverse synthetic aperture radar (ISAR) images of rear view target of an automobile. However, ISAR images can often be blurred due to inter-pulse phase errors. To resolve this problem, one-dimensional (1-D) entropies of high resolution range profiles (HRRP) are minimized with the help of particle swarm optimization (PSO). The searching space used in PSO is adaptively adjusted by the use of information on the target's velocity obtained from LFM-FSK waveforms. Simulation results show that the proposed method can generate well-focused ISAR images.

This paper introduces the inverse synthetic aperture radar(ISAR) imaging technique for rear view target of an automobile, which uses both linear frequency modulation-frequency shift keying(LFM-FSK) waveform and monopulse tracking. LFM-FSK waveform consists of two sequential stepped frequency waveforms with some frequency offset, and thus, can be used to generate ISAR images of rear view target of an automobile. However, ISAR images can often be blurred due to non-uniform change rate of relative aspect angle between radar and target. In order to address this problem, one-dimensional(1-D) Lagrange interpolation technique in conjunction with angle information obtained from the monopulse tracking is applied to generate uniform data across the radar's aspect angle. Simulation results show that the proposed method can provide focused ISAR images.
Multipath makes clear message transfer difficult in the underwater communication. To solve this problem, we propose a new method producing proper MFSP (Modulation Frequency Shift Period) which could be obtained by calculating time delay caused by different path from a transmitter to a receiver. At the transmitter end, messages were divided according to the size of the MFSP and transmitted accordingly alternating Frequency. At the receiver end, the received messages were demodulated in order to recover the original message by the adaptive BISMO algorithm which is constructed at the algorithm design stage. Adaptive MFSP and estimated BER (Bit Error Rate) were calculated through simulation test.
In this paper, the frequencies sharing possibility between TA(TalkAround) Radios and RFID system in 900MHz frequency band have been studied. The modulation technic for FHSS(Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum) of TA is digital FSK and RFID system adapts digital ASK modulation technic. The communication mode of the tested RFID system for frequencies sharing possibility was FHSS. The field test was performed by five scenarios. The RFID field testing system for the frequencies sharing possibility was composed of four tags and two main devices made in USA. Four TA and Egilant spectrum analyzer was used for testing. The frequencies sharing possibility by differentiated modulation was theoretically analyzed. As result of simulation, it was proved that the frequencies sharing between each other modulation system is possible. And also as result of field testing it was confirmed that the signal of TA Radios have no effect on the signal of RFID system.

In this paper, we design and implement a high speed power-line communication modem, supported up to the transmission rate of 480kbps in a lower frequency band of under 450kHz. The power-line channel model is discussed in the sense of the lower frequency band, and the transmission technique of OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) is considered to improve the throughput effectively. According to the power-line channel variation, the designed modem can select the modulation mapping between a 16-QAM(Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) or a QPSK(Quadrature Phase Shift Keying). Thus, it makes a sufficient QoS even in a poor channel environments. With a implementation result, we show that it gives a variable transmission rate of 480kbps or 240kbps in the signal bandwidth of $50kHz{\sim}450kHz$.

KRISO/KORDI is currently developing a deep-sea unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) system which is composed of a launcher, an ROV, and an AUV. Two USBL acoustic positioning systems will be used for UUV's navigation. One is for the deep sea positioning of all three vehicles and the other is for AUV's guidance to the docking device on the launcher. In order to increase the position accuracy MFSK(Multiple Frequency Shift Keying) broadband signal will be used. As the first step to the implementation of a USBL system, this paper studies USBL positioning algorithm using MFSK signals. Firstly, the characteristics of MFSK signal is described with various MFSK parameters: number of frequencies, frequency step, center frequency, and pulse length. Time and phase delays between two received signals are estimated by using cross-correlation and cross-spectrum methods. Finally an USBL positioning algorithm is derived by converting the delays to difference of distances and applying trigonometry. The simulation results show that the position accuracy is improved highly when both cross-correlation and cross-spectrum of MFSK signals are used simultaneously.

In underwater acoustic multipath channel, a performance of underwater acoustic (UWA) communication systems is affected by dynamic variation of boundary and high temporal and spatial variability of the channel conditions. Time and spatial variations of UWA channel induce a carrier frequency offset (CFO) since a phase and a frequency of received signal mismatch with a transmitting signal. Therefore, a performance of a phase shift keying underwater acoustic communication system is degraded. In this study, we have analyzed a performance of CFO estimation and compensation using a phase code in time and spatial variation channel. A constant amplitude zero autocorrelation (CAZAC) signal is applied as a phase code signal and its performance is evaluated in water tank. The bit error rate of a quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK) system with a phase code is improved about 4 to 10 times better than that without a phase code.

The alternative binary offset carrier (AltBOC) signal shares frequency spectrum with the phase shift keying (PSK) signal, enabling us to manage the satellite communication spectrum more efficiently. However, the side-peaks in the AltBOC autocorrelation pose an ambiguity in the AltBOC signal tracking, and consequently, makes the frequency sharing via the AltBOC difficult. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a cancellation scheme of the AltBOC correlation side-peaks. From the numerical results, it is confirmed that the proposed scheme removes the ambiguity in signal tracking caused by the side-peaks completely, and thus, has a much lower tracking error standard deviation (TESD) (i.e., a much better tracking performance) than the conventional scheme.

An 1.485 Gbit/s video signal transmission system using the carrier frequency of H-band(220~325 GHz) was implemented and demonstrated for the first in domestic. The RF front-end was composed of Schottky barrier diode sub-harmonic mixers(SHM) and frequency triplers, and diagonal horn antennas for transmitter and receiver, respectively. The transmitted carrier frequency of 246 GHz was implemented in the H-band, and LO frequencies of H-band SHM is 120 GHz and 126 GHz for transmit and receive chains, respectively. The modulation scheme is ASK(Amplitude Shift Keying) where IF frequency is 5.94 GHz and the envelop detection was used in heterodyne receiver architecture, and direct detection receiver using ZBD(Zero Bias Detector) was implemented as well. The 1.485 Gbit/s video signal with HD-SDI format was successfully transmitted over wireless link distance of 5 m and displayed on HDTV at the transmitted average output power of 20 ${\mu}W$.
In this paper, SER(Symbol Error Rate) variation and effects on SER by phase noise at various frequency offset of the local oscillator in digital communication systems are gerneralyzed for QPSK(Quadrature Phase Shift Keying), MQAM(M-ary Quadrature Amplitude Modulation), OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex)-MQAM, OFDM-QPSK and 8-VSB(Vestigal Side Bands) modulation methods and compared those with the ideal cases, which have no phase noise, through the MATLAB simulation. And the ration between modulation bandwidths and the SER on the various frequency offsets on the above modulation methods have been analyzed for the system requirement of minimum phase noise characteristics. From this study, we have confirmed that the most sensitive modulation method on the phase noise is OFDM-MQAM and that the relatively insensitive method 8-VSB.
