  • The empirical Green's function method is applied to the foreshock and the mainshock of the 2016 Gyeongju earthquake to simulate strong ground motions of the mainshock and scenario earthquake at seismic stations of seven metropolises in South Korea, respectively. To identify the applicability of the method in advance, the mainshock is simulated, assuming the foreshock as the empirical Green's function. As a result of the simulation, the overall shape, the amplitude of PGA, and the duration and response spectra of the simulated seismic waveforms are similar with those of the observed seismic waveforms. Based on this result, a scenario earthquake on the causative fault of Gyeongju earthquake with a moment magnitude 6.5 is simulated, assuming that the mainshock serves as the empirical Green's function. As a result, the amplitude of PGA and the duration of simulated seismic waveforms are significantly increased and extended, and the spectral amplitude of the low frequency band is relatively increased compared with that of the high frequency band. If the empirical Green's function method is applied to several recent well-recorded moderate earthquakes, the simulated seismic waveforms can be used as not only input data for developing ground motion prediction equations, but also input data for creating the design response spectra of major facilities in South Korea.

  • In this paper, we describe the composition of frequency response bands based on experimental data of plants (controlled systems) with uncertainty and nonlinearity, and the robust stability evaluation of feedback control systems. Analysis and design of control systems using the upper and lower bounds of such experimental data would be effective as a practicable method which is not heavily dependent upon mathematical models such as the transfer function. First, we present a method to composite gain characteristic bands of frequency response of cascade connected plants with uncertainty and a recurrent inequality for the composition. Next, evaluation methods of the robust stability of multi-loop control systems obtained through feedback from the output terminals and multi-loop control systems obtained through feedback into the input terminals are described. In actual control systems, experimental data of frequency responses often depends on the amplitude of input. Therefore, we present the evaluation method of the nominal value and the width of the frequency response band in such a case, and finally give numerical examples based on virtual experimental data.

  • In this study, the frequency transfer function of motions are predicted from the result of a full-scale seakeeping trials. Because the real sea has the characteristics of multi-directional waves,we compare the results in the one directional waves with ones in the directional waves. For calculation of the frequency transfer function in the directional waves, Takezawa's inverse estimation method was introduced and the frequency ranges were divided into three parts in order to consider following seas. The full-scale seakeeping trials was executed in the south sea of Korea using the stern trawler. Those results show that analysis method of the multi-directional waves is more reliable than that of one directional waves, and confirm the possibility of applying this method to the full-scale seakeeping trials.

  • In this study, a frequency domain model updating method is presented using power spectral density (PSD) data. It uses the sensitivity of PSD function with respect to the unknown structural parameters through a decomposed form of transfer function. The stiffness parameters are captured with high accuracy through solving the sensitivity equations utilizing the least square approach. Using numerically noise polluted data, the model updating results of a truss model prove robustness of the method against measurement and mass modelling errors. Results prove the capabilities of the method for parameter estimation using highly noise polluted data of low ranges of excitation frequency.

  • The Stockbridge damper is used to control the aeolian vibration of a overhead transmission line due to the natural wind under a low velocity, between 1 m/s to 7 m/s. The damper model can be simply derived with several design parameters and the location of eigenvalues of design parameters are important to determine the efficiency of energy dissipation by excitation itself with two counterweights. First, the importance of resonance frequencies of Stockbridge damper was reviewed through the analysis of frequency response function of damper system. Then, the best selection of design parameters was investigated with the introduction of objected function that minimize the distance between the calculated eigenvalues and target frequency points. The best choice of design parameters was reviewed using the simulated results from the objective function and the effectiveness of selected design case was discussed at the point view of practical implementation.

  • This paper proposes a frequency transfer function synthesis of a later compensated PID controller for an approximated low order model. The proposed method identifies the parameter vector of PID controller from a linear system that is formed by rearranging a loop frequency transfer function synthesis including the filter compensated PID controller obtained from the given frequency response bounds. And an example for the turbine speed control system of Chungju hydropower plant is given to illustrate the feasibilities of suggested schemes.

  • A method for the identification of structural characteristic parameters of a steel bar in the matrices form such as stiffness matrices and mass matrices from frequency response function(FRF) by genetic algorithm is proposed. As the method is based on the finite element method(FEM), the obtained matrices have perfect physical meanings if the FRFs got from the analysis and the FRFs from the experiments were well coincident each other. The identified characteristic matrices from the FRFs with maximun 40 % of random errors by the genetic algorithm are coincident with the characteristic matrices from exact FEM FRFs well each other. The fitted element diameters by using only 2 points experimental FRFs are similar to the actual diameters of the bar. The fitted FRFs are good accordance with the experimental FRFs on the graphs. FRFs of the rest 9 points not used for calculating could be fitted even well.

  • Modern power systems are very complex and to model them completely is impractical for electromagnetic transient studies. Therefore areas outside the immediate area of interest must be represented by some form of frequency dependent equivalent. The s-domain rational function form of frequency dependent equivalent does not need refitting if the simulation time-step is changed in the electromagnetic transient program. This is because the s-domain rational function coefficients are independent of the simulation time-step, unlike the z-domain rational function coefficients. S-domain rational function fitting techniques for representing frequency dependent equivalents have been developed using Least Squares Fitting(LSF). However it does not suffer the implementation error that exited in this work as it ignored the instantaneous term. This paper Presents the formulation for developing 1 Port Frequency Dependent Network Equivalent(FDNE) with the instantaneous term in S-domain and illustrates its use. This 1 port FDNE have been applied to the CIGRE Benchmark Rectifier test AC system. The electromagnetic transient package PSCAD/EMTDC is used to assess the transient response of the 1 port (FDNE) developed with Thevenin and Norton Equivalent network. The study results have indicated the robustness and accuracy of 1 port FDNE for electromagnetic transient studies.

  • This paper describes frequency response and propagation characteristics considering semiconducting screen in distribution cables. In CIGRE WG 21-05, Simplified Approach(SA) and Rigorous Approach(RA) which can revise the permittivity considering semiconducting screen propose for more detailed EMTP model and frequency dependant analysis. In this paper, the frequency dependent characteristics of complex permittivity are variously analysed by cole-cole function of RA. The attenuation, propagation velocity and surge impedance according to frequency range(1 kHz to 500 MHz) and cable length are also analysed by SA and EMTP simulation in distribution cables. The propagation velocity considering semiconducting screen is slower, and it is saturated over the range of 1 MHz. The signal is significantly attenuated as frequency range is high.

  • In order to analyze the dynamic characteristics of ground impedance in large grounding system for lightning and surge protections, a novel method for measuring the ground impedance as a function of frequency was proposed. The experiments were carried out in the grounding system composed of ground rods and mesh grids. The test current was injected by the variable frequency inverter whose frequency is linearly controlled in the range of $5{\sim}500$kHz. The ground impedance and frequency response of the grounding system were mainly caused by the inductive current flowing through grounding conductors over the frequency of 2002. In the combined grounding system of rods and mesh grids, inductive component of ground impedance was significantly decreased. It was fumed out that the grounding system is effective for the surge protection.
