  • A novel instrumentation amplifier(IA) using positive polarity current-conveyor(CCII+) for electronic measurement systems with low cost, wideband, and gain control with wide range is designed. The IA consists of two CCII+, three resistor, and an operational amplifier(op-amp). The principal of the operating is that the difference of two input voltages applied into two CCII+ used voltage and current follower converts into same currents, and then these current drive resistor of (+) terminal and feedback resistor of op-amp to obtain output voltage. To verify operating principal of the IA, we designed the CCII+ and used commercial op-amp LF356. Simulation results show that voltage follower used CCII+ has offset voltage of 0.21mV at linear range of ${\pm}$4V. The IA had wide gain range from -20dB to 60dB by variation of only one resistor and -3dB frequency for the gain of 60dB was 400kHz. The IA also has merits without matching of external resistor and controllable offset voltage using the other resistor. The power dissipation of the IA is 130mW at supply voltage of ${\pm}$5V.

  • In this papers, we first, therefore, designed VCO(voltage controlled oscillator) that is composed of the dielectric resonator and the varactor diode, and then designed and fabricated PLDRO(phase locked dielectric resonator oscillator) that is combined with the sampling phase detector and loop filter. The measured results of the fabricated PLDRO at 12.05 [GHz] show the output power is 13.54 [dBm], frequency tuning range approximately +/- 7.5 [MHz], and Power variation over the tuning range less than 0.2 [dB], respectively. The phase noise which effects on bits error rate in digital communication is obtained with -114.5 [dBc/Hz] at 100 [KHz] offset from carrier, and The second harmonic suppression is less than -41.49 [dBc]. These measured results are found to be more improved than those of VCO without adopting PLL, and the phase noise and power variation performance characteristics show the better performances than those of conventional PLL.

  • This paper describes the design of a FEM(Front End Module) having power detection function for mobile handset application. The designed FEM consists of a MMIC(Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuits) power amplifier chip, SAW Tx filter and duplexer, diode power detector and stripline matching circuit. An LTCC(Low Temperature Co-fired Ceramics) technology is adopted for miniaturized FEM. The frequency band is $824{\sim}869$ MHz which is the uplink Tx band of the CDMA mobile system. The size of designed FEM is $7.0{\times}5.5{\times}1.5\;mm^3$, which is an ultra-small size even though the power detector circuit is included. All sub-components of FEM have been developed and measured in advance before being integrated into FEM. The measured output power and gain are 27 dBm and 27 dB, respectively. In addition, the measured ACPR characteristics are 46.59 dBc and 55.5 dBc at 885 kHz and 1.98 MHz offset, respectively.

  • A novel instrumentation amplifier (IA) using fully-differential linear operational transconductance amplifier (FLOTA) for electronic measurement systems with low cost, wideband, and gain control with wide range is designed. The IA consists of a FLOTA, two resistor, and an operational amplifier(op-amp). The principal of the operating is that the difference of two input voltages applied into FLOTA converts into two same difference currents, and then these current drive resistor of (+) terminal and feedback resistor of op-amp to obtain output voltage. To verify operating principal of the IA, we designed the FLOTA and realized the IA used commercial op-amp LF356. Simulation results show that the FLOTA has linearity error of 0.1% and offset current of 2.1uA at input dynamic range ${\pm}3.0V$. The IA had wide gain range from -20dB to 60dB by variation of only one resistor and -3dB frequency for the 60dB was 10MHz. The proposed IA also has merits without matching of external resistor and controllable offset voltage using the other resistor. The power dissipation of the IA is 105mW at supply voltage of ${\pm}5V$.

  • This paper presents a new push-push VCO technique that extracts a second harmonic output signal from a capacitive commonnode in a negativegm oscillator topology. The generation of the $2^{nd}$ harmonics is accounted for by the nonlinear current-voltage characteristic of the emitter-base junction diode causing; 1) significant voltage clipping and 2) different rising and falling time during the switching operation of core transistors. Comparative investigations show the technique is more power efficient in the high-frequency region that a conventional push-push technique using an emitter common node. Prototype 12GHz and 17GHz MMIC VCO were realized in GaInP/GaAs HBT technology. They have shown nominal output power of -4.3dBm and -5dBm, phase noise of -108 dBc/Hz and -110.4 dBc/Hz at 1MHz offset, respectively. The phase noise results are also equivalent to a VCO figure-of-merit of -175.8 dBc/Hz and -184.3 dBc/Hz, while dissipate 25.68mW(10.7mA/2.4V) and 13.14mW(4.38mA/3.0V), respectively.

  • Seismic reflection surveying is one of the most widely used and effective techniques for coal seam structure delineation and risk mitigation for underground longwall mining. However, the ability of the method can be compromised by the presence of volcanic cover. This problem arises within parts of the Bowen and Sydney Basins of Australia and seismic surveying can be unsuccessful. As a consequence, such areas are less attractive for coal mining. Techniques to improve the success of seismic surveying over basalt flows are needed. In this paper, we use elastic wave-equation-based forward modelling techniques to investigate the effects and characteristics of seismic wave propagation under different settings involving changes in basalt properties, its thickness, lateral extent, relative position to the shot position and various forms of inhomogeneity. The modelling results suggests that: 1) basalts with high impedance contrasts and multiple flows generate strong multiples and weak reflectors; 2) thin basalts have less effect than thick basalts; 3) partial basalt cover has less effect than full basalt cover; 4) low frequency seismic waves (especially at large offsets) have better penetration through the basalt than high frequency waves; and 5) the deeper the coal seams are below basalts of limited extent, the less influence the basalts will have on the wave propagation. In addition to providing insights into the issues that arise when seismic surveying under basalts, these observations suggest that careful management of seismic noise and the acquisition of long-offset seismic data with low-frequency geophones have the potential to improve the seismic results.

  • To set up an objective basis for the evaluation of the stroboscopic findings, video-strobolaryngoscopic images of vocal fold vibration in 5 female and 5 male normal speakers were analyzed using an image analysis computer program called KSIP(Kay Storoboscopy Image Processing, Kay Elemetrics Corp., NJ, USA). Four consecutive vibratory cycles were compared in comfortable, louder, high-pitched /ee/ phonation for every subject. findings mostly replicated earlier studies including glottal chinks which were observed in most female speakers throughout the cycles and clear distinction between female and male speakers in their vibratory patterns as well as intensity and frequency-re-lated differences. However, there were some findings incompatible with those from previous studies which may be attributable to technical problems. This study may provide an objective basis of the stroboscopic findings such as image shape, amplitude, area, and their changes according to frequency and intensity variations. We anticipate that funker study with larger samples ran provide an objective criteria for normal vibratory characteristics of the laryngostro-boscopic findings.

  • This paper presents a wide tuning range, fine-resolution DCO (Digitally Controlled Oscillator) with an active inductor. In order to control the frequency of the DCO, the transconductance of the active inductor is tuned digitally. In addition, the DCO gain needs to be calibrated digitally to compensate for gain variations. To cover the wide tuning range, an automatic three-step coarse tuning scheme is proposed. The DCO total frequency tuning range is 1.4 GHz (2.1 GHz to 3.5 GHz), it is 58 % at 2.4 GHz. An effective frequency resolution is 0.14 kHz/LSB. The proposed DCO is implemented in 0.13 ${\mu}m$ CMOS process. The total power consumption is 6.6 mW from a 1.2 V supply voltage. The phase noise of the DCO output at 2.4 GHz is -120.67 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz offset.

  • This paper presents a 24-GHz frequency-modulated continuous wave(FMCW) radar transceiver with two Rx and one Tx channels in 65-nm complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor(CMOS) process and implemented it on a radar system using the developed transceiver chip. The transceiver chip includes a $14{\times}$ frequency multiplier, low-noise amplifier, down-conversion mixer, and power amplifier(PA). The transmitter achieves >10 dBm output power from 23.8 to 24.36 GHz and the phase noise is -97.3 GHz/Hz at a 1-MHz offset. The receiver achieves 25.2 dB conversion gain and output $P_{1dB}$ of -31.7 dBm. The transceiver consumes 295 mW of power and occupies an area of $1.63{\times}1.6mm^2$. The radar system is fabricated on a low-loss Duroid printed circuit board(PCB) stacked on the low-cost FR4 PCBs. The chip and antenna are placed on the Duroid PCB with interconnects and bias, gain blocks and FMCW signal-generating circuitry are mounted on the FR4 PCB. The transmit antenna is a $4{\times}4$ patch array with 14.76 dBi gain and receiving antennas are two $4{\times}2$ patch antennas with a gain of 11.77 dBi. The operation of the radar is evaluated and confirmed by detecting the range and azimuthal angle of the corner reflectors.

  • In this paper, the dual-band voltage-controled oscillator (VCO) using the composite right/left-handed (CRLH) transmission line (TL) and the tunable negative resistance based on the fin diode is presented. It is demonstrated that the CRLH TL can lead to metamaterial transmission line with the dual-band tuning capability. The dual-band operation of the CRLH TL is achieved by the frequency offset and the phase slope of the CRLH TL, and the frequency ratio of the two operating frequencies can be a non-integer. Each frequency band of VCO has to operate independently, so we have used the tunable negative resistance based on the pin diode. When the forward bias has been into the pin diode, the phase noise of VCO is $-108.34\sim-106.67$ dBc/Hz @ 100 kHz in the tuning range, $2.423\sim2.597$ GHz, whereas when the reverse bias has been fed into the pin diode, that of VCO is $-114.16\sim-113.33$ dBc/Hz @ 100 kHz in the tuning range, $5.137\sim5.354$ GHz.
