  • The purpose of this paper is to propose the frequency allocation plan for the terrestrial UHDTV in 700MHz frequency band. Currently 700MHz frequency band is being requested by broadcasting, communication, and public safety sites for the use of UHDTV, LTE/LTE-A and PPDR (Public Protection and Disaster Relief) by each site. Validity and proper timing of each request is examined by references, and the frequency allocation plan is proposed. As results 9 channels and guard bands are allocated for the UHDTV service, under the consideration of two 10MHz frequency bands of the PPDR in700MHz band.

  • This paper presents the intra capacitance modeling based on the winding method and section bobbin for CM choke capable of EMI attenuation of broad bands from lower to higher frequency bands and high frequency type common-mode choke capable of EMI attenuation of high frequency band used in the EMI Block of LED-TV SMPS. The case of high frequency type CM choke can be explained by the parasitic capacitance of three types of CM choke. The winding method of section bobbin type is smaller than the others. The first resonant frequency of the proposed CM choke tends to increase as the parasitic capacitance becomes small and its impedance characteristics improved performance as the first resonant frequency increases. The CM chokes of the proposed section bobbin type shows that in the future, the method may have practical use in LED/LCD-TV SMPS and in several applications, such as LED lighting, adapters, and so on.

  • Two frequency-reconfigurable antennas have been designed and combined in a space with limited volume, i.e., 40mm ${\times}$ 20mm ${\times}$ 6mm. Each antenna can be reconfigured to operate at different frequency bands depending on the state of an embedded switch, which is implemented using a PIN diode. The first antenna can be switched between 0.82GHz ${\sim}$ 0.96GHz band (GSM/ CDMA) and 1.7GHz ${\sim}$ 2.17GHz band (DCS/ PCS/ WCDMA), which are cellular bands. The second antenna can be switched between 3.4GHz ${\sim}$ 3.6GHz band (mWiMax) and 2.3GHz ${\sim}$ 2.5GHz, 5.15GHz ${\sim}$ 5.35GHz bands (WiBro/ WLAN 11a/b/g/n), which are connectivity bands. The proposed combined antenna operates both over cellular bands and connectivity bands concurrently. The choice of the operation bands is made independently by the states of the two switches.

  • A EEG(ElectroEncephaloGram) compression scheme based on subband coding techniques is presented in this paper. Considering the frequency characteristics of EEG, the raw signal was decomposed into different frequency bands. After decomposition, optimal bit allocation was done by adapting to the standard deviation in each frequency bands, and decomposed signals were quantized using pdf(probability density function)-optimized nonuniform quantizer. Based on the above mentioned coding scheme, coding results of various multichannel EEG signal were shown with compression ratio and SNR(signal-to-noise ratio).

  • Single sound absorbers such as porous materials, panels, and Helmholts resonators have limited performance with some extents of frequency region. For example, porous materials do not attenuate low frequency sounds, while panels do not absorb high frequency sounds. Composite absorption structure with coverings, porous materials, and air gaps are an alternative for wide band sound absorption. Slits, panels, perforated panels are those materials for coverings, glass wool, mineral wool, polyester, and polyurethane are frequently used porous materials. Air gap between the porous material and background surface is one of major factors which governs the absorption characteristics of composite absorption structures, especially in the low frequency area. Calculations and measurements show that the absorption coefficients of composite absorption structure, in mid and low frequency bands, are getting higher with increased air gaps. Perforated panels rather than slits and panels are good coverings with higher number as far as absorption coefficient is concerned. Perforated panels with porous materials and 37 cm of air gaps in background have high absorption coefficients for all frequency bands, above 0.7 to 1.0. All measurements are performed in reverberation chamber, Mokpo National University, according to ISO 354 and ISO 3382.

  • Seismic attributes are often used to identify lithology and evaluate reservoir properties. However, interpretation based only on structural attributes and without knowledge of the Vp/Vs ratio can limit the ability to evaluate changes in heavy oil reservoirs. These limitations are often due to less obvious impedance differences. In order to investigate pieces of evidence of a heavy-oil shaly-sand reservoir from seismic data, besides geochemistry, we studied seismic attributes and characterized the reservoir using seismic stack data and well logging data. The study area was the Muglad rift basin in South Sudan. We conducted a seismic complex analysis to evaluate the target reservoir. To delineate the frequency responses of the different lithological units, we applied the spectral decomposition method to the target reservoir. The most unexpected result was continuous bands of strong seismic reflectors in the target reservoir, which extended across the borehole. Spectral decomposition analysis showed that the low-frequency zone of 25 Hz dominant frequency was consistent with instantaneous attributes. This approach can identify lithology, reveal frequency anomalies, and filter the stacked section into low- and high-frequency bands. The heavy-oil reservoir zones exhibited velocity attenuation and the amplitude was strongly frequency dependent.

  • Chronic neuropathic pain (CNP) is a complex condition often arising from neural maladaptation after nerve injury. Understanding CNP complications involves the intricate interplay between brain-heart dynamics, assessed through quantitative electroencephalogram (qEEG) and heart rate variability (HRV). However, insights into their interaction in chronic pain are limited. Resting EEG and simultaneous electrocardiogram (lead II) of the participants were recorded for qEEG and HRV analysis. Correlations between HRV and qEEG parameters were calculated and compared with age, sex, and body mass index (BMI)-matched controls. CNP patients showed reduced HRV and significant increases in qEEG power spectral densities within delta, theta, and beta frequency ranges. A positive correlation was found between low frequency/high frequency (LF/HF) ratio in HRV analysis and theta, alpha, and beta frequency bands in qEEG among CNP patients. However, no significant correlation was observed between parasympathetic indices and theta, beta bands in qEEG within CNP group, unlike age, sex, and BMI-matched healthy controls. CNP patients display significant HRV reductions and distinctive qEEG patterns. While healthy controls exhibit significant correlations between parasympathetic HRV parameters and qEEG spectral densities, these relationships are diminished or absent in CNP individuals. LF/HF ratio, reflecting sympathovagal balance, correlates significantly with qEEG frequency bands (theta, alpha, beta), illuminating autonomic dysregulation in CNP. These findings emphasize the intricate brain-heart interplay in chronic pain, warranting further exploration.

  • In this paper, a design method for a compact double dipole quasi-Yagi antenna with a V-shaped ground plane operating in dual bands including 2.45 GHz and 5 GHz wireless LAN frequency bands is studied. First, a quasi-Yagi antenna operating in the 2.45 GHz band is designed, and a V-shaped ground plane is used instead of a conventional strip ground plane to reduce the length of the antenna. A second dipole is connected to the dipole driver of the quasi-Yagi antenna for 2.45 GHz band and a director is appended for 5 GHz band operation. A prototype of the proposed dual-band antenna operating at 2.45 GHz WLAN band and 4.57-7.11 GHz band is fabricated on an FR4 substrate with a dimension of 40 mm by 55 mm. Fabricated antenna shows frequency bands of 2.33-2.75 GHz and 4.38-7.5 GHz for a voltage standing wave ratio less than 2. Measured gain remains more than 4 dBi in both bands.
