Though the digital transition of terrestrial TV has been completed, the transmission system for terrestrial radio has not been determined and terrestrial radio still keeps its analog transmission. This study, under coorientation model, aims to explore the cognitive difference in recognizing important factors to be considered in deciding the digital radio transmission system between the employees of terrestrial broadcasters and then crucial issues related to the factors are driven. It has been found that the most big cognitive difference among the employees of three major terrestrial broadcasters lies in selecting frequency band for digital radio transmission. But there was little difference of opinion on simultaneous production-transmission, efficiency of frequency usage, broadcast quality and standards of service. The most disputable point in transition to digital radio broadcasting is selecting the frequency band for digital radio between the frequency bands used for FM radio broadcast (88-108MHz), terrestrial DMB (VHF Ch7~13) and FM radio adjacent broadcast band (76~88MHz: VHF Ch5~6). So, the question concludes into the selection issue between DAB+, HD-Radio, and DRM+. To improve the quality of radio broadcasting service and enhance the satisfaction of listeners, it is desirable to allow to operate both production system and transmission station, to enhance high transmission efficiency with minimum transmission facility, and to permit new entrance of broadcasters.

This letter proposes a reconfigurable directional coupler that uses a variable impedance mismatch reflector to achieve high isolation characteristics in the antenna front end. The reconfigurable coupler consists of a directional coupler and a single-pole four-throw (SP4T) switch with different load impedances as a variable load mismatch reflector. Selection of the load impedance by the reflector allows cancellation of the reflected signal due to antenna load mismatch and the leakage from the input to isolation port of the directional coupler, resulting in high isolation characteristics. The performance of the proposed architecture in separating the received (Rx) signal from the transmitted (Tx) signal in the antenna front end was verified by implementing and testing the reconfigurable coupler at 917 MHz for UHF radio-frequency identification (RFID) applications. The proposed reconfigurable directional coupler showed an improvement in the isolation characteristics of more than 20 dB at the operation frequency band.

The femtocell overlaid cellular network (FOCN) has been used to enhance the capacity of existing cellular systems. To obtain the desired system performance, both cross-tier interference and co-tier interference in an FOCN need to be managed. This paper proposes an interference management scheme that adaptively constructs a femtocell cluster, which is a group of femtocell base stations that share the same frequency band. The performance evaluation shows that the proposed scheme can enhance the performance of the macrocell-tier and maintain a greater signal to interference-plus-noise ratio than the outage level can for about 99% of femtocell users.

The millimeter wave that uses the spectrum in the 30GHz~300GHz band has a shorter wavelength due to its high carrier frequency, so it is suitable for Massive MIMO systems because more antennas can be equipped in the base station. However, since an RF chain is required per antenna, hardware cost and power consumption increase as the number of antennas increases. Therefore, in this paper, we investigate antenna selection schemes to solve this problem. In order to solve the problem of high computational complexity in the exhaustive search based antenna selection scheme, we propose a approach of applying deep learning technology. An best antenna combination is predicted using a DNN model capable of classifying multi-classes. By simulation tests, we compare and evaluate the existing antenna selection schemes and the proposed deep learning-based antenna selection scheme.

This study is to design the transmitter and receiver of short range UWB(Ultra Wide Band) imaging radar that is able to display high resolution radar image for front area of a UGV(Unmanned Ground Vehicle). This radar can help a UGV to navigate autonomously as it detects and avoids obstacles through foliage. The transmitter needs two transmitters to improve the azimuth resolution. Multi-channel receivers are required to synthesize radar image. Transmitter consists of high power amplifier, channel selection switch, and waveform generator. Receiver is composed of sixteen channel receivers, receiver channel converter, and frequency down converter, Before manufacturing it, the proposed architecture of transceiver is proved by modeling and simulation using several parameters. Then, it was manufactured by using industrial RF(Radio Frequency) components and all other measured parameters in the specification were satisfied as well.

Applying diffraction of waves and muffler principle, the theory of macroscopic air ventilation with soundproofing was explained. Soundproofing frequency range can be selected by this method. The sound wave was attenuated at the resonator located between double-layered walls. A soundproof plate was designed and the experiment was processed. There are two air holes of diameter of 5cm and thickness of 8cm on the surfaces per each soundproofing cell. There was a transmission loss of about 25dB and it is more than at least 10dB compared with that of the Comnex technology of wave cancellation by air holes in Japan. Furthermore, there was no soundproof frequency selection in the Comnex technology.

In this paper, a direct addressing mode of a microprocessor is introduced to save memory capacity, and also a dedicated digital filter is constructed to speed up the filter processing and to enable an easy selection of the impulse response types. A theoretical analysis has been conducted on the errors caused by the finite word klength, rounding-off and multiplication procedures. The digital filter designed by the proposed method is made into a module which can function as a 7th-order recursive or a 14-order nonrecursive type with a simples witch operation. The proposed filter is implemented on a printed-circuit board. The frequency characteristics of this filter can be controlled by the multiplication values stored in ROMs. A low-pass, a high-pass and a band-pass filter have been designed and their frequency characteristics are verified by actual measurements. For a order higher filer, two filter modules have been cascaded into an integrated filter of 23rd-order non-recursive low-pass type and a 12th-order recursive multiband type. Their frequency characteirstics have been found to agree with the theory.

Relay technology is becoming more important for mobile communications and wireless internet of things (IoT) networking because of the extended access network coverage range and reliable quality of service (QoS) it can provide at low power consumption levels. Existing mobile multihop relay (MMR) technology uses fixed-point stationary relay stations (RSs) and a divided time-frame (or frequency-band) to support the relay operation. This approach has limitations when a local fixed-point stationary RS does not exist. In addition, since the time-frame (or frequency-band) channel resources are pre-divided for the relay operation, there is no way to achieve high channel utilization using intelligent opportunistic techniques. In this paper, a different approach is considered, where the use of mobile/IoT devices as RSs is considered. In applications that use mobile/IoT devices as relay systems, due to the very limited battery energy of a mobile/IoT device and unequal channel conditions to and from the RS, both minimum energy consumption and QoS support must be considered simultaneously in the selection and configuration of RSs. Therefore, in this paper, a mobile RS is selected and configured with the objective of minimizing power consumption while satisfying end-to-end data rate and bit error rate (BER) requirements. For the RS, both downlink (DL) to the destination system (DS) (i.e., IoT device or user equipment (UE)) and uplink (UL) to the base station (BS) need to be adaptively configured (using adaptive modulation and power control) to minimize power consumption while satisfying the end-to-end QoS constraints. This paper proposes a minimum transmission power consuming RS selection and configuration (MPRSC) scheme, where the RS uses cognitive radio (CR) sub-channels when communicating with the DS, and therefore the scheme is named MPRSC-CR. The proposed MPRSC-CR scheme is activated when a DS moves out of the BS's QoS supportive coverage range. In this case, data transmissions between the RS and BS use the assigned primary channel that the DS had been using, and data transmissions between the RS and DS use CR sub-channels. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed MPRSC-CR scheme extends the coverage range of the BS and minimizes the power consumption of the RS through optimal selection and configuration of a RS.

In this paper, we present a new method for user selection, sub-band allocation, and power allocation in order to maximize the system throughput under the constraint of transmit power in multiuser downlink orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) systems with partial channel quality information (CQI). In previous schemes, each user in one cell transmits CQI of all sub-bands to the base station, which requires enormous feedback overhead. Therefore, we proposed an efficient power allocation and modulation and coding selection scheme in which each user transmits partial CQI and one additional information to reduce the amount of feedback. Simulation results show that we can greatly reduce the amount of feedback than full feedback system.
This study investigates the relationship between voice quality measurements and emotional states, in addition to conventional prosodic and cepstral features. Open quotient, harmonics-to-noise ratio, spectral tilt, spectral sharpness, and band energy were analyzed as voice quality features, and prosodic features related to fundamental frequency and energy are also examined. ANOVA tests and Sequential Forward Selection are used to evaluate significance and verify performance. Classification experiments show that using the proposed features increases overall accuracy, and in particular, errors between happy and angry decrease. Results also show that adding voice quality features to conventional cepstral features leads to increase in performance.
