  • For predictive flooded area susceptibility mapping, this study applied and verified probability model and the frequency ratio using a geographic information system (GIS) and frequency raio. Flooded areas were identified in the study area of field surveys, For predictive flooded area susceptibility mapping, this study applied and verified probability model and the frequency ratio using a geographic information system (GIS) and frequency raio. Flooded areas were identified in the study area of field surveys, and maps of the topography, geology, landcover and green infrastructure were constructed for a spatial database. The factors that influence flooded areas occurrence, such as slope gradient, slope, aspect and curvature of topography and distance from darinage, were calculated from the topographic database. Lithology and distance from fault were extracted and calculated from the geology database. The frequency ratio coefficient is overlaid for flooded areas susceptibility mapping as each factor's ratings. Then the flooded areas susceptibility map was verified and compared using the existing flooded areas. As the verification results, the frequency ratio model showed 82% in prediction accuracy. The method can be used to reduce hazards associated with flooded areas and to plan land use.

  • An experimental study was conducted to reduce NOx emission in RT(radiant tube)burner by using oscillating combustion processes in RIST. A solenoid valve gives the various oscillating conditions, such as oscillation frequency, duty ratio of fuel flow. In this study, we used commercial software, CFD-ACE+ to predict combustion and NOx emission characteristics for various experimental oscillation conditions. The effect of oscillation frequency and duty ratio on NOx emission will be discussed in terms of flow field, temperature and equivalence ratio distributions in detail.

  • The linear/nonlinear vibration response of the rotating hybrid cylindrical shell with simply supported boundary condition is studied. The Ritz-Galerkin method is applied to obtain the nonlinear frequency equation, which excludes in-plane and rotatory inertia but includes bending stretching coupling terms. The bifurcation phenomena for the linear frequency and the frequency ratio(nonlinear/linear frequency ratio) are presented. The hybrid cylindrical shells are composed of composite(GFRP, CFRP) metal(aluminium, steel) with symmetric and antisymmetric stacking sequence. The effects of the Coriolis and centrifugal force are considered The results also present the effects of length-to- radies ratio, radius-to-thickness ratio, the circumferential wave number, the stacking sequence, the material property, the initial excitation amplitude and the rotating speed. The present linear frequency results are compared with those of the available literature.

  • Background: From only frequency rate of industrial accidents, it is difficult to define the industry composition of accident statistics in a nation. This study aims to propose and develop a new index for measuring the degree of concentration of industrial accidents using the concept of the Herfindahl-Hirschman Index in the case of European countries. Methods: Using the concept of the Herfindahl-Hirschman Index, the concentration index of accidents in the country is developed, and the conditions of European countries are compared using indexes of frequency rate and concentration ratio. Results: The frequency rate and concentration ratio of fatal and nonfatal accidents in European countries are compared. According to the economic condition and geographical position, different patterns of accidents concentration are presented in terms of frequency rate and concentration ratio. Conclusion: We develop the concentration index of industrial and occupational accidents that identifies the industrial ratio of accident occurrence, and the differentiated strategy can be formulated such as approaches to reducing frequency and prioritizing target industries.

  • The spool displacement of a directional control valve can be considered as the standard signal for the measurement of its bandwidth frequency. When the spool displacement is not available, the metering-orifice system is suggested in this study as an alternative way to measure the - 3 dB amplitude-ratio bandwidth frequency of the hydraulic directional-control valve. The amplitude ratio of the metering-orifice pressure can be adjusted to equal that of the spool displacement through the controlling of the metering-orifice opening area. A series of experiments were conducted to verify the effectiveness of the metering-orifice system. The metering orifice was confirmed as adequate for the measurement of the - 3 dB amplitude-ratio bandwidth frequency.

  • The purpose of this study is to explain theoretically the mechanism of the frequency-dependent apex locator which can detect the apex of the root in moist canals with blood or other conductible canal irrigants. The frequency-dependent apex locator is based on measuring the ratio of the two impedances of the two alternating currents with different frequencies. We analyzed the changes of the ratio between the two impedances by using differential calculus. Our analysis shows that : 1. When the file is in the moist canal, the ratio between the two impedances is almost constant. 2. As the file approaches the apex of the root, the ratio decreases sharply. By this mechanism, the frequency-dependent apex locator can detect the apex of the-root quite accurately in moist canals.

  • Modulus of elasticity, modulus of rigidity, damping ratio, and natural frequency of three varieties of boxthorn(Lycium chinense Mill) (Cheongyang #2, Cheongyang gugija, and Cheongyang native) branches were analyzed. Modulus of elasticity and modulus of rigidity of the boxthorn branch was determined using standard formula after simple beam bending and torsion test, respectively, using an universal testing machine. Damping ratio and natural frequency of branches were determined using a system consisted of an accelerometer, a PC equipped with A/D converter, and a software for data analysis. Relationship between the elastic modulus and branch diameter in overall varieties and branch types showed a good correlation (r$\cong$-0.81). There was, however, no correlation between torsional rigidity and branch diameter. The internal damping results were highly variable and the overall range of the damping ratio of the boxthorn branch was 0.014 -0.087, which indicated that the branch was a lightly damped structure. The natural frequency of the boxthorn branch was in the range of 89-363 rad/s for the overall varieties and branch types. A good correlation (r$\cong$0.82) existed between the natural frequency and branch diameter in overall varieties and branch type.

  • In this study, the temperature coefficient of resonant frequency(TC $F_{r}$), dielectric and piezoelectric properties of Pb[(S $b_{1}$2/N $b_{1}$2/)$_{0.0035}$-(M $n_{1}$3/N $b_{2}$3/)$_{0.0065}$-(Z $r_{x}$ $Ti_{1-x}$ )$_{0.90}$] $O_3$ceramics is investigated with Zr/Ti ratio. The dielectric constant and electromechanical coupling factor( $k_{p}$) showed the highest values of 1257, 0.562 respectively when the Zr/Ti ratio is 49.5/50.5. The mechanical quality factor( $Q_{m}$) is the lowest value of 713 when the Zr/Ti ratio is 49.5/50.5, and increased with the decrease of the Zr/Ti ratio. The temperature coefficient of resonant frequency(TC $F_{r}$) change abruptly at the morphotropic phase boundary(MPB), which is between the rhombohedral phase with highly negative TC $F_{r}$ of -106ppm/$^{\circ}C$ and the tetragonal phase with highly positive TC $F_{r}$ of +64pp $m^{\circ}C$ as Zr/Ti ratio changes from 50/50 to 49.5/50.5.50.5..5.50.5.5.

  • Objectives : The objective is that we measure and analyze Pulse-Respiration Ratio and Body Composition Analysis to study the correlation between both. Methods : First, after subjects take a rest over 10 minutes, we measure their electrocardiogram and respiration pattern through which we take average peak interval to calculate an average pulse cycle and a respiration cycle. An average respiration cycle divided by an average Pulse Rate gives Pulse-Respiration Ratio. Next, we draw out 22 Body Composition Analysis indicators by using In-Body 720 model. Last, we analyze and take statistics on them by using SPSS 13.0 program. Results : Negative is the correlation between P/R Ratio and Body Composition Analysis indicator like fatness degree, body fat volume, body fat rate, abdominal fatness, BMI. Conclusions : 1. The higher P/R Ratio the more likely to be thin, the lower P/R Ratio the more likely to be fat. 2. We separately analyze P/R Ratio depending on each breathing frequency and pulse frequency to find out that breathing frequency has great influence and that breathing frequency decides the fatness degree. 3. In study on the correlation between P/R Ratio and Body Composition Analysis, fatness degree, in-body fat volume, in-body fat rate, BMI are the related indicators, which shows the connection with the fatness indicators. 4. In study on the correlation between Han-Yeol [寒熱] grade and Body Composition Analysis indicators, the result is that Han[寒] has no connection and that only Yeol[熱] grade has something to do with it, which means the higher heat symptom subjects have, the more basic metabolism volume and muscular build they have.

  • The performance of pure friction isolation system with respect to the frequency bandwidth of excitation and the predominant frequency is investigated. A set of earthquake ground motions (artificial as well as recorded [with different combinations of magnitude-distance and local site geology]) is considered for investigating effectiveness of pure friction isolators. The results indicate the performance of pure friction base isolated system does not only depend upon coefficient of friction and mass ratio but the stick-slip behaviour depends upon the frequency content of the excitation as well. Slippage prevails if the excitation frequency lies in a suitable frequency range. This range widens with increasing mass ratio. For larger mass ratios, the sliding effect is more pronounced and the maximum acceleration response is further reduced in the neighbourhood of frequency ratio (${\omega}/{\omega}_n$) of unity. The pure friction isolation system is effective in the case of broadband excitations only and that too, in the acceleration sensitive range of periods. The pure friction system is not effective for protection against narrow band motions for which the system response is quasi-periodic.
