  • In this study, the characteristics of freezing and thawing resistance, the compressive strength, and the change in height of cement mortar according to steam curing methods has been studied. To this end, the major test variables include the period of the early curing, curing temperature and the later curing. The strength test as well as volume variousness have been conducted to explore the characteristics of thawing and thawing resistance on the curing methods. The experimental results in the present study can be efficiently used to improve the characteristics of freezing and thawing resistance for concrete products carrying steam curing.

  • After researching the physical properties of the concrete included Rice Husk Ash(RHA concrete) and workability of fresh concrete admixed RHA, we have tested durability of RHA-concrete against freeaing and thawing in the winter using rapid freezing and thawing test method(KS F 2456) . There aretwo hypotheses to explain the failure mechanism of a freezing and thawing action. First, the hydraulic pressure in the pores of freezing concrete make an internal stress of concrete structures outbreaking micro crack in the face of concrete, Second, Frost action causing damage to cement paste repeatedly come from soil frost action, freezing water in the capillaries. Initial Relative Dynamic Modulus of Elasticity (DME) was biggest in cae of unit binder weight 600kgf/㎥ and relative dynamic modulus of elasticity increased until 300cycles. In general , initial relative DME was proportional to unit binder weight . Relative DME was decreased in proportion to unit binder weight in the case of 300, 400, 500kgf/㎥ , but relative DME fo the others remained more than 90% until 300 cycles. It was not good effect of intermixed RHA to concrete in case of below unit binder weight 300kgf/㎥ and the resistance of freezing and thawing was not good either.

  • The effects of binder content and silica sand content on the durability characteristics of lightweight polymer concretes are examined. As a result, the flame lingering times using unsaturated polyester resin and non-combustible polyester resin were 60∼120 and 0∼4 seconds respectively, and the combustion lengths were 9∼11 mm and 0∼3 mm, respectively. Thus it is believed that the lightweight polymer concrete was incombustible and the light weight polymer concrete in which non-combustible material was added was perfectly non-combustible. The percent of original mass of lightweight polymer concrete, according to the freezing-thawing experiment, was below 0.3 %, which was much less than that of cement concrete. The pluse velocity, for the case of the binder content 28 %, showed the minimum decreasing rate for the lightweight polymer concrete with silica sand content of 50 %. The higher the binder content, the greater the durability. That is much higher than other material and believed that the freezing-thawing was suppressed by a low absorption.

  • This Expriment is performed to describe the properties of the freezing-thawing and to find the method to enhance the freezing-thawing resistance of the high strength light weight aggregates concrete. For this purpose, we made 8 kinds of specimen of concrete mold. The light weight coarse aggregate concrete which contained AE was appeared in good condition and its durability index was more than 90% by the buffer action which owing to entained air. The light weight aggregates concrete which admixture of silca fume, was appeared that the durability index was 46.74% in spite of its high strength. I might conclude that the most important factor for freezing-thawing resistance of high strength light weight aggregate concrete is the entrained air.

  • In this study, the freezing and thawing resistance in sea-water of hardened cement paste was investigated by adding slag, diatomaceous earth and fly ash as blending materials and air entraining agent and superplasticizer as admixtures to the cement paste. The structure of hardened cement pate was densified by potential hydraulic properties and pozzolan reactivities of materials and the freezing and thawing resistance of the paste was improved with the effect blending materials and admixtures. As the blending materials were added to the paste, the quantity of C3A was relatively reduced and the formation of expansive ettringite was suppressed to decrease the penetration of sea-water or Cl-, SO42-ion, and then freeze-thaw resistance was enhanced. Particulary, when 40% of slag was mixed, the resistance was excellent.

  • The effect of ground granulated blast-furnace slag(GGBS) and alkali activator compressive strength, resistance of chloride attack and freezing-thawing is assessed to develop high volume slag concrete, the replacement rate of GGBS of which is more than 80 percent. result, as the replacement rate of GGBS increases, the compressive strength development properties of concrete in early and long term age decreased and resistance chloride attack and freezing-thawing is increased. The early strength development property, however, is extremely advanced by addition of the alkali activator, which is also found to improve resistance chloride attack and freezing-thawing.

  • The strengthening performance of FRPs(Fiber Reinforced Polymers) is directly affected by the environmental conditions such as freezing-thawing and moisture because FRPs are usually bonded on the concrete surface. It is, therefore, strongly required to evaluate a durability of bond between FRPs and concrete as well as FRP materials itself. The freezing-thawing resistance of FRPs is evaluated in this study with the variables of freezing-thawing conditions, types of FRP and freezing-thawing cycles. From the test results, it is found that tensile strength and pull-off strength of CFRP are not affected by the freezing-thawing. On the other hands, those of GFRP show a little degradation because of continuous water immersion during thawing process. But, cautions are needed on the bond durability between FRPs and concrete in case of continuous water supplying from adjacent to the concrete.

  • FRP composites which are used in strengthening existing structure are usually adhered to the concrete surface, their performance are directly affected by environmental condition such as freezing-thawing and moisture. Accordingly, it is required to evaluate bond durability between FRP composite and concrete as well as FRP materials itself. The durability characteristics of FRP composite for freezing-thawing are evaluated in this study with the variables of concrete strength, type of FRP composite, freezing-thawing conditions and freezing-thawing cycle. In addition, material durability of GFRP sheet for high temperature/high humidity condition are examined in this experimental study.

  • As the number of concrete building structures in marine environment increases, it is important to study and predict the durability and the compound deterioration of the concrete which is exposed in both chloride and freezing-thawing damage. The concrete's resistance against freezing and thawing is tested based on KS F 2456, while its chloride ion diffusion coefficient is evaluated based on NT BUILD 492. In result, the more exposure to freezing and thawing process, the shorter life it gets, due to the increased amount of chloride ion diffusion coefficient.

  • Concrete has a void, which exists as one of defect in concrete. If the porosity of concrete increases, durability of concrete decreases. In this paper, to improve surface void of concrete, surface penetration sealers are applied to specimen. And, it were investigated that the resistances of chloride penetration and freezing and thawing for concrete with surface penetration sealer of two types. According to the results, surface penetration sealer has not show a harmful influence on strength and resistance of freezing and thawing. Surface penetration sealers were effective in the resistance of chloride penetration.
