  • A simulation method called modified differential transform is studied to solve the free vibration problems of uniform Euler-Bernoulli beam. First of all, the modified differential transform method is derived. Secondly, the modified differential transformation is applied to uniform Euler-Bernoulli beam free-free vibration. And then a set of differential equations are established. Through algebraic operations on these equations, we can get any natural frequency and normalized mode shape. Thirdly, the FEM is applied to obtain the numerical solutions. Finally, mode experimental method (MEM) is conducted to obtain experimental data for analysis by signal processing with LMS Test.lab Vibration testing and analysis system. Experimental data and simulation results are illustrated to be in comparison with the analytical solutions. The results show that the modified differential transform method can achieve good results in predicting the solution of such problems.

  • This study presented analytical and numerical solutions for spatial free vibration of nonsymmetric thin-walled circular curved beams. The closed-form solutions were obtained for in-plane free vibration analylsis of monosymmetric curved beams. Likewise, two types of thin-walled curved beam elements were developed using the third and the fifth order Hermitian polynomials. In order to illustrate the accuracy and usefulness of the present method, this study presented analytical and numerical solution and compared these with the results using the ABAQUS's shell elements. In particular, effects of the thickness-curvature as well as the inextensional condition were investigated on the free vibration of curved beams with nonsymmetric sections.

  • This paper presents a new nonlocal stress variational principle approach for the transverse free vibration of an Euler-Bernoulli cantilever nanobeam with an initial axial tension at its free end. The effects of a nanoscale at molecular level unavailable in classical mechanics are investigated and discussed. A sixth-order partial differential governing equation for transverse free vibration is derived via variational principle with nonlocal elastic stress field theory. Analytical solutions for natural frequencies and transverse vibration modes are determined by applying a numerical analysis. Examples conclude that nonlocal stress effect tends to significantly increase stiffness and natural frequencies of a nanobeam. The relationship between natural frequency and nanoscale is also presented and its significance on stiffness enhancement with respect to the classical elasticity theory is discussed in detail. The effect of an initial axial tension, which also tends to enhance the nanobeam stiffness, is also concluded. The model and approach show potential extension to studies in carbon nanotube and the new result is useful for future comparison.

  • In this present paper, a new two dimensional (2D) and quasi three dimensional (quasi-3D) nonlocal shear deformation theories are formulated for free vibration analysis of size-dependent functionally graded (FG) nanoplates. The developed theories is based on new description of displacement field which includes undetermined integral terms, the issues in using this new proposition are to reduce the number of unknowns and governing equations and exploring the effects of both thickness stretching and size-dependency on free vibration analysis of functionally graded (FG) nanoplates. The nonlocal elasticity theory of Eringen is adopted to study the size effects of FG nanoplates. Governing equations are derived from Hamilton's principle. By using Navier's method, analytical solutions for free vibration analysis are obtained through the results of eigenvalue problem. Several numerical examples are presented and compared with those predicted by other theories, to demonstrate the accuracy and efficiency of developed theories and to investigate the size effects on predicting fundamental frequencies of size-dependent functionally graded (FG) nanoplates.

  • This paper aims to investigate the free vibration analysis of FG plates, taking into account the effects of even and uneven porosity. The study employs the Hellinger-Reisner functional and obtains the element's bending stress and membrane stress fields from the analytical solution of the governing equations of the thick plate and plane problem, respectively. The displacement field serves as the second independent field. While few articles on free vibration analysis of circular plates exist, this paper investigates the free vibration of both rectangular and circular plates. After validating the proposed element, the paper investigates the effects of porosity distributions on the natural frequency of the FG porous plate. The study calculates the natural frequency of thin and thick bending plates with different aspect ratios and support conditions for various porosity and volume fraction index values. The study uses three types of porosity distributions, X, V, and O, for the uneven porosity distribution case. For O and V porosity distribution modes, porosity has a minor effect on the natural frequency for both circular and rectangular plates. However, in the case of even porosity distribution or X porosity distribution, the effect of porosity on the natural frequency of circular and rectangular plates increases with an increase in the volume fraction index.

  • The effects of boundary conditions on natural frequencies for the ring stiffened composite cylindrical shells are investigated by theoretical method. The Love's thin shell theory and the discrete stiffener theory with beam functions in the Ritz procedure are used to derive the frequency equation. Five different boundary conditions such as clamped-clamped, simply supported-simply supported, free-free, clamped-free, clamped-simply supported are considered in this study. Also, the experimental investigation is presented to validate the theoretical results.

  • The free vibration of axially functionally graded tapered arches including shear deformation and rotatory inertia are studied through solving the governing differential equation of motion. Numerical results are presented for circular, parabolic, catenary, elliptic and sinusoidal arches with hinged-hinged, hinged-clamped and clamped-clamped end restraints. In this study Differential Quadrature element of lowest order (DQEL) or Lagrangian Interpolation technique is applied to solve the problems. Three general taper types for rectangular section are considered. The lowest four natural frequencies are calculated and compared with the published results.

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate the natural frequencies and mode shapes of tapered beams with general boundary condition(translational and rotational elastic support) at one end and carrying a tip mass of rotatory inertia at the other end. The beam model is based on the classical Bernoulli-Euler beam theory which neglects the effects of rotatory inertia and shear deformation. (omitted)

The object oriented programming concepts such as object, class, method and inheritance are represented. The static and free vibration analyses for framed structures were satisfactorily performed by this program which consists of TOP, VECTOR, MATRIX, STRU, GUI and other classes. • In this paper an asymptotic iteration method is adopted to analyze non-linear free vibration of reticulated circular plates composed of beam members placed in two orthogonal directions. For the resulting linear ordinary differential equations in the process of iteration, the power series with rapid convergence has been applied to obtain an analytical solution for non-linear characteristic relation between the amplitude and frequency of the structure. Numerical examples are given, and the phenomena indicating hardening of such structures have been presented for the (immovable or movable) simply-supported and clamped circular plates.
