In scalable streaming application, there are two important knobs to tune to effectively exploit the underlying network resource and to maximize the user perceivable quality of service(QoS): layer selection and packet scheduling. In this work, we propose Semantics Aware Packet Scheduling (SAPS) algorithm to address these issues. Using packet dependency graph, SAPS algorithm selects a layer to maximize QoS. We aim at minimizing distortion in selecting layers. In inter-frame coded video streaming, minimizing packet loss does not imply maximizing QoS. In determining the packet transmission schedule, we exploit the fact that significance of each packet loss is different dependent upon its frame type and the position within group of picture(GOP). In SAPS algorithm, each packet is assigned a weight called QoS Impact Factor Transmission schedule is derived based upon weighted smoothing. In simulation experiment, we observed that QOS actually improves when packet loss becomes worse. The simulation results show that the SAPS not only maximizes user perceivable QoS but also minimizes resource requirements.
The previous video structuring techniques are mainly limited to shot or shot group level. However, the shot level structure couldn't provide semantics within a video. So, researches on high level structuring are going on for getting over the drawbacks of shot level structure, recently. To overcome the drawbacks of shot level structure, we propose video scene segmentation technique based on color and motion features. For considering various color distribution, each shot is divided into sub-shots based on color feature. A key frame is extracted from each sub-shot. The motion feature in a shot is extracted from MPEG-1 video's motion vector. Moreover adaptive weights based on motion's property in search range are applied to color and motion features. The experiment results of proposed technique show the excellence in view of the over-segmentation and the reflection of semantics, comparing with those of previous techniques. The proposed technique decomposes video into meaningful hierarchical structure and provides video browsing or retrieval based on scene.

In this work, we develop a novel channel power allocation method for the real-time multimedia over the wireless network environment. Since each frame has different effect on the user perceivable QoS, improving packet loss does not necessarily coincide with perceivable improvements in QoS. A new channel power control scheme is suggested based on the quantified importance of each frame in terms of user perceivable QoS. Dynamic programming formulation is used to obtain optimal transmit power which minimizes power consumption and maximizes user perceivable QoS simultaneously. The experiment is performed by using publicly available video clips. The performance is evaluated using network simulator version 2 (NS 2) and decoding engine is embedded at the client node, and calculated PSNR over the every frame transmitted. Through the semantics aware power allocation (SAPA) scheme, significant improvement on the QoS has been verified, which is the result of unequal protection to more important packets. SAPA scheme reduced the loss of I frame by upto 27% and reduced power consumption by upto 19% without degradation on the user perceivable QoS.

In this paper, we propose packet selection and significance based interval allocation algorithm for real-time streaming service. In real-time streaming of inter-frame (and layer) coded video, minimizing packet loss does not imply maximizing QoS. It is true that packet loss adversely affects the QoS but one single packet can have more impact than several other packets. We exploit the fact that the significance of each packet loss is different from the frame type it belongs to and its position within GoP. Using packet dependency and PSNR degradation value imposed on the video from the corresponding packet loss, we find each packet's significance value. Based on the packet significance, the proposed algorithm determines which packets to send and when to send them. The proposed algorithm is tested using publicly available MPEG-4 video traces. Our scheduling algorithm brings significant improvement on user perceivable QoS. We foresee that the proposed algorithm manifests itself in last mile connection of the network where intervals between successive packets from the source and to the destination are well preserved.

The difficulty of "information sharing", "information reusing" issues happening in Wireless Sensor Network is due to the heterogeneity of the application environment, data processing, communication protocol etc. Based on the introduction of the Ontology theory, though analyzing the sensor characteristic a general type of sensor ontology contains the definition of concept, frame structure and OWL design was proposed from the standpoint of sensor observation. The paper expounded a system framework of the domain ontology through the expansion of knowledge base on the general sensor could achieve the information sharing and reuse by semantic communication between the general sensor ontology and user. The research of this method would bring new idea to the semantic sensor network construction.

Improving packet loss does not necessarily coincide with the improvement in user perceivable QoS because each frame carries different degree of importance. We propose Significance-aware packet scheduling (SAPS) to maximize user perceivable QoS. SAPS carries out two fundamental issues of packet scheduling: "What to transmit" and "When to transmit?" To adapt to the available bandwidth, it is necessarily to transmit the subset of the data packets if the entire set of packets can not be transmitted. "Packet Significance" quantifies the importance of the frame by elaborately incorporating frames' dependency. Greedy approach is used in selecting packets and transmission schedule is determined based on the Packet Significance. The proposed scheme is tested using publicly available MPEG-4 video clips. Decoding engine is embedded in the simulation software and user perceivable QoS is exposeed in termstermiSNR. Throughout the simulation based experiment, the performance of the proposed scheme is compared two other schemes: Size-based packet scheduling and Bit-rate based best effort packet scheduling. SAPS successfully incorporates the semantics of a packet and improves user perceivable QoS significantly. It successfully provides unequal protection to more important packets.
We pror.a;e a H.263-based video ceder with two-layer ocalability. The bare layer is ceded by using the default H.263 axling algorithms to achieve high compresred video data and the enhanced layer is axied by enhanced axling such as HVS-based quantization updating. The enhanced layer contains only arled refinement data for the OCT coefficients of the bare layer. Bitstream syntax and semantics for enhancement layer are designed and quantizer design using the HVS is pror.ooed. Data from the two layers are combined after inverse quantization and inverse OCT prcx:esses in the deaxier. We show with e~rirrental results that the pror.a;ed layered arlee achieves comparable picture quality with non-layered arlee at bitrates of 30 kbr;s or less. Overhead information for the bitstream layer can 00 limited to less than 0.5 kbits/frame.
The terminology "human body" simply means a physical body but also more often, as an object in art works, carries symbolic concepts incorporating the whole history of human lives. Human body has been employed as an artistic object capturing physical body, delivering artist's idea expressing life indicators from different standpoints of times and places. This point of view about human body in art works has in fact rather short history since 1960's when modern thinking paradigm focusing upon rationality and reasoning has begun declining and on the contrary when the body used to be the servant of the mind and soul for a long time has begun attracting artist's attention as a real entity from the viewpoint of dichotomy. During the 1960's, frequent performances in Pop art and of Fluxus showed that the human body has been an important media for artistic communication after importance of body performances had been raised in Action painting in 1940's. The human body became a more determined media in body art works that had got into stride after Yves Kline's conceptual works applying body and its traces. These kinds of art works have continued and consolidated into the Feminism came into blossom in 1980's and into fragmentated and disembodied body art trend in 1990's. Through development of trends in body works, human body now might well be regarded as a clue provide from individual identity with implication over the world. This thesis is to analyse in semiotic way main works of Kiki Smith who is a representative artist devoting to Feminism and proposing extended significance of human body. In the analysis process of works done by two great artists with histrorical background of art trend in order to find and open an significance horizon of human body, semiotics and bodism are therefore perceived as pertinent and applied as basic tools. The first stage of analysis is to get the significances emerged in between expression part and contextual parts, which are separated structually from the most basic level. The study deals with body works furthermore in the way of structual cohesion of the expression and the context from the view of A J. Greimas' Structural Semantics and tried to build up a basic frame for the extended significances of human body. This thesis is, on the other hand, to attempt to contribute for extension of disembodied and fragmentated body discussed in the structural semantic frame earlier by Julia Kriesteva who delivers abjection concepts and phenomenology of Maurice Merleau-Ponty who enables to overview relationship between the body and the world from the viewpoint of Bodism, further into interpretation level. The other works are Kiki smith's that showed epics about death in mid-1980's, detailed humbleness of vulnerable human body exposed to dichotomy and fragmentation in 1990's and religion and mythology incorporating wouln healing in 2000's and henceforth. Through the analysis of Kiki Smith's representative work 'Pee body', it is verified and confirmed that fragmentated body showed beyond boundary gap of the human body and ultimately tends to imply human healing owing to divine maternity. Bodily symbols in Kiki Smith's are extended to the universal world to imply human life and death on the one hand and religion and mythology of human wound and divine healing one the other hand. This thesis through these process and results of analysis is in a broad context, to emphasize that human body as objectified text has a key indicator role to understand world as well as semiotic extension in art works in late 20th century so that we might confirm bodily symbol as a cultural context constitutes a section of contemporary visual arts.
