A Low-Delay MDCT/IMDCT

  • This letter presents an algorithm for selecting a low delay for the modified discrete cosine transform (MDCT) and inverse MDCT (IMDCT). The implementation of conventional MDCT and IMDCT requires a 50% overlap-add (OLA) for a perfect reconstruction. In the OLA process, an algorithmic delay in the frame length is employed. A reduced overlap window and MDCT/IMDCT phase shifting is used to reduce the algorithmic delay. The performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated by applying the low-delay MDCT to the G.729.1 speech codec.

  • A high-quality audio/voice codec using the MDCT/IMDCT process can perfectly restore the current frame through an overlap-add process with the previous frame. In the overlap-add process, an algorithm delay equal to the frame length occurs. In this paper, we propose a MDCT/IMDCT process that reduces algorithm delay by using a variable phase shift in MDCT/IMDCT process. In this paper, a low-delay audio/speech codec was proposed by applying the low delay MDCT/IMDCT algorithm to the ITU-T standard codec G.729.1 codec. The algorithm delay in the MDCT/IMDCT process can be reduced from 20 ms to 1.25 ms. The performance of the decoded output signal of the audio/speech codec to which low-delay MDCT/IMDCT is applied is evaluated through the PESQ test, which is an objective quality test method. Despite of the reduction in transmission delay, it was confirmed that there is no difference in sound quality from the conventional method.

  • We improved a visualization system for a player's sequential forms called‘Multi-Motion’which has ever been used in NHK live broadcasting. It is to extract only the player's forms from background, and overlap them into one frame sequentially after fast performance for a vault game of gymnastics. It helps TV viewers understand the player's performing forms easily. We increased the performance of Multi-Motion by shortening the distance between the current frame and the reference frame, and the synthesis of the reference frame.

  • A new method for simultaneous multiple transmit focusing using orthogonal weighted FM chirp is proposed. Weighted chirp signals focused at different depths are transmitted at the same time. These chirp signals are mutually orthogonal in the approximate sense that the autocorrelation function of each signal has a narrow mainlobe width and low sidelobe levels, and the crosscorrellation function of any pair of the signals has smaller values than the sidelobe levels of each autocorrelation function. This means that each weighted chirp signal can be separately compressed into a short pulse, focused individually and combined with other focused beams to form a frame of image. Theoretically, any two chirp signals defined in two nonoverlapped frequency bands are mutually orthogonal. In the present work, however, a fractional overlap of adjacent frequency bands, by up to 25%, were permitted to design more chirp signals within a given transducer bandwidth. The crosscorrelation values due to the frequency overlap could be reduced by alternating the direction of frequency sweep of the adjacent chirp signals. The simulation results show that this method can improve the lateral resolution of image without sacrifice in the frame rate compared with the conventional pulse system.

  • This paper presents the methods that design the Wavelet-based pitch detector for 2,4 kbps Harmonic-CELP Coder, and that achieve the effective waveform interpolation by decision window shape of the transition region, Waveform interpolation coder operates by encoding one pitch-period-sized segment, a prototype segment, of speech for each frame, generate the smooth waveform interpolation between the prototype segments for voiced frame, But, harmonic synthesis of the prototype waveforms between previous frame and current frame occur not only waveform errors but also discontinuity at frame boundary on that case of pitch halving or doubling, In addtion, in transition region since waveform interpolation coder synthesizes the excitation waveform by using overlap-add with triangularity window, therefore, Harmonic-CELP fail to model the instantaneous increasing speech and synthesis waveform linearly increases, First of all, in order to detect the precise pitch period, we use the hybrid 1st pitch detector, and increse the precision by using 2nd ACF-pitch detector, Next, in order to modify excitation window, we detect the onset, offset of frame by GCI, As the result, pitch doubling is removed and pitch error rate is decreased 5.4% in comparison with ACF, and is decreased 2,66% in comparison with wavelet detector, MOS test improve 0.13 at transition region.

  • In this paper, we propose a low delay window switching MDCT (Modified Discrete Cosine Transform) method for speech/audio coder. The window switching algorithm is used to reduce the degradation of sound quality in non-stationary trasient duration and to reduce the algorithm delay by using the low delay TDAC (Time Domain Aliasing Cancellation). While the conventional window switching algorithms uses overlap-add with different lengths, the proposed method uses the fixed overlap add length. It results the reduction of algorithm delay by half and 1 bit reduction in frame indication information by using 2 window types. We apply the proposed algorithm to G.729.1 based on MDCT in order to evaluate the performance. The propose method shows the reduction of algorithm delay by half while speech quality of the proposed method maintains same as the conventional method.

  • Axle Gearbox of the High Speed Train has rotational degree of freedom centered on the Axle Shaft Center Line, and constrained by the Reaction Arm connected to the Bogie Frame via Resilient Ring made of Rubber. This System is laid on the Power Train and can influence on the Power transmitted from Motor to Axle. The stiffeness of the Resilient Ring have to be selected for the Natural Frequency of this System do not overlap with the Teeth-mating Frequency. To confirm the Design Parameters, Calculation and Experiment were executed and compared.

  • 본 논문은 기존의 시간적으로 이웃한 프레임 사이의 움직임을 추정 보상하여 새로운 프레임을 생성하는 프레임률 향상 기법 (frame rate up conversion)을 제안한다. 움직임 추정(Motion Estimation)을 통하여 계산된 움직임 벡터를 이용하여 프레임을 생성하며, 생성된 프레임에서 발생되는 구명 (hole)과 중첩 (overlap) 영역을 처리하는 기법을 제안한다. 특히 k-NN 보간법(k-nearest neighbor interpolation)[3]과 중간값을 적응적으로 활용하여 향상된 화질의 영상을 생성한다. 실험 결과를 통하여 제안하는 기술의 우수성을 입증하였다.

Solving Time-dependent Schrödinger Equation Using Gaussian Wave Packet Dynamics

  • Using the thawed Gaussian wave packets [E. J. Heller, J. Chem. Phys. 62, 1544 (1975)] and the adaptive reinitialization technique employing the frame operator [L. M. Andersson et al., J. Phys. A: Math. Gen. 35, 7787 (2002)], a trajectory-based Gaussian wave packet method is introduced that can be applied to scattering and time-dependent problems. This method does not require either the numerical multidimensional integrals for potential operators or the inversion of nearly-singular matrices representing the overlap of overcomplete Gaussian basis functions. We demonstrate a possibility that the method can be a promising candidate for the time-dependent $Schr{\ddot{o}}dinger$ equation solver by applying to tunneling, high-order harmonic generation, and above-threshold ionization problems in one-dimensional model systems. Although the efficiency of the method is confirmed in one-dimensional systems, it can be easily extended to higher dimensional systems.
