  • An extension of the well-known Fourier transform is developed in this paper. It is denoted as the generalized Fourier transform(GFT), since it encompasses the Fourier transform as its special case. The first idea of this extension can be found on [1]. In the definition of the N-point discrete GFT, it first construct a passband in time which functions as a window in the time domain. An appropriate interpretation of each variables are introduced during the definition of the GFT, followed by the formal derivation of the inverse GFT. This transform pair is similar to the windowing in the frequency domain such as the subband coding technique (or filter bank approach) and could be extended to the wavelet transform.

  • Fast Fourier Transformation is employed to convert the head variation of a pipeline in the time domain to the amplitude of the frequency domain. Applying method of characteristics to a pipeline provides a significant frequency range for a surge introduced from the valve modulation. Inverse Fast Fourier Transformation and a Finite Impulse Response Filter can be used to remove any possible noise existing from the significant frequency range of an unsteady condition. A filtered signal shows higher potential for the inverse calculation of leakage detection than the noise-added signal does. The respective performances of Inverse Fast Fourier Transformation and a Finite Impulse Response Filter are compared in terms of leakage detection capability. Characteristics of the frequency range for multiple leakages were investigated to validate the effectiveness of the noise control method in the frequency domain.

  • When spatially dense velocity distribution is measured by a scanning laser Doppler vibrometer, the Fourier transform method provides the real and imaginary parts of the mode shapes in the form of a polynomial. However the Fourier transform method is often impractical because the independent decomposition property of cosine and sine components into real and imaginary parts, respectively, does not hold due to the leakage problem which commonly occurs in the Fourier transform of harmonic signals. To deal with this problem, a Hilbert transform method is newly proposed in this article. The proposed method is free from the leakage problem and relatively robust to the scanning error. A simulation example is provided to verify the effectiveness of this method.

  • In the present paper, we evaluate the analytic conditional Fourier-Feynman transforms and convolution products of unbounded function which is the product of the cylinder function and the function in a Banach algebra which is defined on an analogue o Wiener space and useful in the Feynman integration theories and quantum mechanics. We then investigate the inverse transforms of the function with their relationships and finally prove that th analytic conditional Fourier-Feynman transforms of the conditional convolution products for the functions, can be expressed in terms of the product of the conditional Fourier-Feynman transforms of each function.

  • We studied the effects of fractional fourier transform in face recognition, in which only the amplitude spectra of transformed facial images were used.We used two recently developed face recognition methods, the most effective feature (MEF) method (i.e., eigenface method) and most discriminating feature (MDF) method, and the effects of th etransform for th etwo methods were consistent. We confirmed that the recognition rate by the use of MDF method is better than that consistent. We confirmed that the recognition rate by the use of MDF method is better than that by MEF regardless of the order to transform, these methods provided slightly better results when the order was 1 than for any other order values. Only when the order was close to 1, the recognition rates were robust to the shift of the input images, and the trend that the recognition rates decreased as the input size varied was independent of the order. From these results, we fond that it is most advantageous to use the amplitude spectra of the conventional fourier transform whose order is 1.

  • In stratified flows of two immiscible liquids, due to the vibration in a pipe, the shape of the interface is not always periodic and it causes the different end points of the interfacial boundary. In this case the performance is not good. To solve this, in this paper, the hybrid-type Fourier series is proposed, which consists of both the polynomial and the trigonometric terms. Under the stationary interfacial boundary during acquiring a full set of voltage data, the performance of the proposed method is evaluated through the numerical experiments. The results show that the proposed method performs better than the conventional Fourier series in estimating the interfacial boundary.

  • We express generalized Fourier-Feynman transform and convolution product of functionals in a Banach algebra $\mathcal{S}(L^2_{a,b}[0,T])$ as limits of function space integrals on $C_{a,b}[0,T]$. Moreover we obtain change of scale formulas for function space integrals related with generalized Fourier-Feynman transform and convolution product of these functionals.

  • An analytical method for linear free vibration of fully liquid-filled circular cylindrical shell with various boundary conditions is developed by the Fourier series expansion based on the Stokes' transformation. A set of modal displacement functions and their derivatives of a circular cylindrical shell is substituted into the Sanders' shell equations in order to explicitily represent the Fourier coefficients as functions of the end point displacements, forces, and moments. For the vibration relevant to the liquid motion, the velocity potential of liquid is assumed as a sum of linear combination of suitable harmonic functions in the axial directions. The unknown parameter of the velocity potential is selected to satisfy the boundary condition along the wetted shell surface. An explicit expression of the natural frequency equation can be obtained for any kind of classical boundary conditions. The natural frequencies of the liquid-filled cylindrical shells with the clamped-free, the clamped-clamped, and the simply supported-simply supported boundary conditions examined in the previous works, are obtained by the analytical method. The results are compared with the previous works, and excellent agreement is found for the natural frequencies of the shells.

  • An analytical method for the free vibration of single circular plate submerged in a fluid-filled rigid cylindrical vessel was developed by the Rayleigh-Ritz method based on the Fourier-Bessel series expansion. It was assumed that the plate is clamped at an offcentered location of the cylinder, and the non-viscous incompressible fluid contained in the cylinder is bisected by the plate. It was found that the theoretical results can predict well the fluid-coupled natural frequencies with excellent accuracy comparing with the finite element analysis results. The offcentered distance effect on the natural frequencies was also observed.
