  • The present study examines the degree of suffix reduction that occurs when the Korean suffix [-nɨn] was attached to the root in spontaneous Seoul Korean speech. Specifically, it focuses on the degrees of reduction produced by individual speakers. The degree of reduction was assessed as the duration of the suffix [-nɨn] to clarify the continuum between the full and reduced forms. The results revealed that, first, the reduced forms of the suffix [-nɨn] were significantly distinguished from the full forms in the suffixation processes. Second, regarding parts of speech, the differences among individual speakers on the degrees of reduction were clearer when the suffix [-nɨn] was attached to verbs, rather than nouns and pronouns. Finally, the length of a root played a critical role in determining the degree of reduction of the suffix [-nɨn]. The degrees of reduction for individual speakers significantly differed when the suffix [-nɨn] was attached to two-syllable roots than three- and four-syllable roots. In conclusion, individual differences in the degrees of reduction were likely to occur when the roots are verbs and when two-syllable roots.

  • Let $S_k(N)$ be the space of cusp forms of weight k for ${\Gamma}_0(N)$. We show that $S_k(N)$ is the direct sum of subspaces $S_k^+(N)$ and $S_k^-(N)$. Where $S_k^+(N)$ is the vector space of cusp forms of weight k for the group ${\Gamma}_0^+(N)$ generated by ${\Gamma}_0(N)$ and $W_N$ and $S_k^-(N)$ is the subspace consisting of elements f in $S_k(N)$ satisfying $f{\mid}_kW_N=-f$. We find generators spanning the space $S_k^-(N)$ from $Poincar{\acute{e}}$ series and give all linear relations among such generators.

  • The purpose of this paper was to analyze the kinds and roles of multimedia materials in E-works that are distributed with elementary textbooks (3~6 grade) of the 2009 revised science curriculum. Five criteria (forms, goals, key competencies, inquiry process, running time) were set for this. The sample of the paper was the 784 multimedia materials in E-works of elementary science textbooks (3~6 grade) of the 2009 revised science curriculum. The results of the multimedia materials analysis are as follows: The result of the material forms of multimedia is that the form of highest ratio is text type. But all forms were used evenly in E-work. 56.2% of the multimedia materials are for "inquiry" in the goal criteria, and 65.0% of the multimedia materials are related to "science inquiry" in the key competencies criteria. Two facts indicate many multimedia is used to develop students' inquiry ability. However the ratio of multimedia materials in motivation step is higher than that in inquiry activity step. In analysis of running time, the ratio of "under 5 min" multimedia materials is the highest. But, the ratio of 5~10 min multimedia materials in inquiry part is higher than that in motivation part in The Chi-square test between "running time" and "parts" that consist of motivation part and inquiry part. Through the analysis of module and the categorizing the multimedia materials, we found that the multimedia materials play eleven roles in E-works that are distributed with elementary textbooks.

  • As the paradigm of science education has been changing from offering scientific knowledge to 'Public Understanding', ways of communication through visual tools in science education has become increasingly important. In this study, I considered 'Pataphor' as a visual tool for scientific communication, and suggested its functions and forms. By studying the notion of pataphor, which was used an overlapped image of virtual reality and reality in literature, in the perspective of contents design, I defined 'Pataphor' as a visual way of deducing or making the metaphysical similarity with the reality based on scientific imagination. Also, I deduced the functions of pataphor as a visual mediacy and suggested its types as "Pataphor of duplicated reality", "Pataphor of reflected reality", "Pataphor of metamorphosed reality", and "Pataphor of artificial reality". Through this study, it was found to be necessary to study in detail the ways to use pataphor depending on contents producing media's and learners' awareness process of contents so there will be a follow-up study on the ways to use pataphor.

  • Minor erosional forms in the bedrock river, like potholes, are not just research subject for the professional geomorphologis. In addition, these features attract general public and make them understand the social contribution and importance of geomorphologic research activities. In this paper, the studies on bedrock minor forms in Korea was reviewed. For further researches, some of major erosional processes and minor forms in bedrock rivers were discussed in detail. Cavitation, plucking, hydro-wedging, and abrasion by passing sediment particles are the major processes to create the longitudinal or transverse minor forms like pothole, furrows, flutes, and runnels. Especially the definition of furrows and runnels are explained to prevent the confusion with pothole, weathering pits and grooves. To make a progress in research on bedrock minor forms the quantitative relationship between the variables should be studied. New techniques for scientific estimation of erosion rates and exposure ages of bedrock surfaces should be used in this field.
