How the High-Stakes and College Entrance Exam Affects Students' Perception: Implication on Management Policy in Higher Education

  • Purpose - Vietnam's education system has undergone numerous changes. One of the significant reforms is the college admissions process which all high school seniors are obliged to go through the High School Graduation Examination (HSGE). Despite its significance, there is lack of research to examine the effects of high-stakes and nationally standardized exams on students' learning experiences. By applying the concept of washback, the purpose of this study is to provide a comprehensive qualitative analysis of students' perceptions and learning experiences when preparing for and taking the HSGE. Research design, data, and methodology - 20 high school seniors were participated in this study. This study utilized a stratified sampling methods and randomly selected participants. Result - This study revealed that the washback effect of the HSGE strongly existed in students' learning experiences. This study also found that there is a negative washback effect of the HSGE on students' learning, particularly for those living in rural areas although Vietnamese schools and communities shared unequal educational and socioeconomic resources. Conclusion - The results of this study would be useful for policymakers to provide better assessment system to enhance students' ability and reduce exam pressure. This study also makes suggestions in regard to bringing more formative types of assessment into the high-stakes and nationally standardized exam.

  • 백제문화제는 옛 백제의 도읍지였던 공주와 부여 지역의 역사적 기반을 바탕으로 백제문화를 재조명하고 전통문화를 계승한다는 목적 하에 개최되어 왔다. 백제의 문화를 소개하고 교육하며, 한국을 대표하는 역사문화축제라는 자부심을 가지고 지역문화발전의 계기를 마련하여 지역공동체의 문화적 정체성 확립에 기여하여 왔다고 할 수 있다. 그러나 오늘날 역사문화축제인 백제문화가 당면한 문제점으로 역사문화축제가의 의미 혹은 활용방안 등에 대한 인식 부족이 있다. 이는 당초 취지와 목적에 동떨어진 방향으로 진행되고 있다는 목소리가 크다. 따라서 백제문화제의 다양한 경연프로그램 중 백제역사의 자긍심을 고취하고 백제문화에 대한 우수성과 독창성을 바탕으로 국제적 관심을 유도하여 백제문화상품에 대한 참신한 아이디어를 발굴하고 디자인 창작열을 높인 우수한 인재를 발굴하고자 백제문화상품 전국공모전을 개최하고 있으며, 본 필자는 백제문화상품 전국공모전 통한 입상작의 문화 상품으로써 문화콘텐츠 산업으로 활용할 가치가 있다고 생각한다. 따라서 백제문화상품 전국 공모전에 관한 백제문화제 일반적 고찰, 국내 문화상품 사례를 통해, 백제문화상품 전국 공모전을 활용한 백제 역사, 문화, 재인식하고 찬란한 백제의 역사적 가치를 문화상품으로써 대중들의 관람, 소비, 홍보, 체험 등으로써 대중화하는데 기여하고자 한다.

현대조경설계에 있어서 시각 개념의 전개 양상 - 가시성에서 확장된 시각성을 중심으로 - (The Development Patterns of Visual Concepts in Contemporary Landscape Design - With a Focus on Visibility from Expanded Visuality -)

  • This study emphasizes users' participation, a living-transforming visuality, as users have appeared to be a central element of landscape design but ignored before. Also this study tries to propose meaning of extended visuality in contemporary landscape design on the basis of visual criticism on simple perception-and contemplations convention-based landscape design. For these purposes, this study reviews characteristics of visual changes appeared in modern reductionist paintings. In other words, arts can be interpreted in polysemous ways through bodies' experience. Deconstructive concepts derived from the theoretical reviews can be categorized into three including the participation of the users' bodies from a contemplative point of view, textuality and intertextuality, and experiences from works. Those concepts were used to criticize the previous discourse on landscape designs and to analyze various issues in the theories, themes and techniques in contemporary landscape design. The significance of the expanded visuality in contemporary landscape design is that it brings the users' voluntary participation. This structure can serve as a tool to obtain the users' perceptive effects. At the same time, it can be regarded as a process of establishing the relationships between the users and the works. Thus emphasis is placed not only on the influences of the effects structure of the works themselves, but also on the many different dimensions related to the users' bodies. It implies that the meaning of design is not determined by the designer but a product resulted from the voluntary relationships between users and works. These findings lead to ambiguous distinctions between arts everyday life, and eventually to the end of the concepts of formative dichotomous aesthetics and their effectiveness. Finding of this study call for not only redefining the space where landscape design is created and communicated, but also reconsidering the concepts of landscape design and its ontological meanings.

영화 <게이샤의 추억:Memoirs of a Geisha>에 표현된 일본풍(日本風) 연구(硏究) (A Study on the Japanese Style Expressed in the Movie 'Memoirs of a Geisha')

  • This study aims at investigating Geisha costume hidden in the history until now and how the fashion of Geisha style is expressed in accordance with character through the movie 'Memoirs of a Geisha'. Major contents of the text consist of studies including the historical background and characteristics of Geisha costume in Chapter 2, the Japanese style expressed in the movie through the analysis of the work in Chapter 3, The movie brought in an opportunity to spread the mysterious culture and art of Japan to the world, making Japanese style an important interest in the world of fashion as well. In a way to study this, the investigation was carried out through literature data, DVD and newspaper of , fashion magazine, articles from the Internet, ete. The Geisha trend has made the hot blast blown harder in such ways to affect not only fashion but also cosmetics, electronic appliance, interior, etc. In S/S 2006, it was not limited to the Japanese style but diffused to the Orientalism in China, India, Korea, etc. It can be said that this study has its significance to be a starting point in investigating the special characters of Japanese Geisha costume hidden up to now. In the studies following in the future, the formative beauty demonstrated per Japanese designer needs to be more studied. Furthermore, it seems noteworthy to analyze and compare Chosun Dynasty's Kisaeng with Japanese Geisha.

과정 중심 평가의 실행을 위한 방향 탐색 (Exploration of the Direction for the Practice of Process-Focused Assessment)

  • 수학교육의 변화를 이끌 수 있는 방안으로서 평가의 개혁은 최근 과정 중심 평가라는 개념으로 등장하고 있다. 과정 중심 평가는 2015 개정 수학과 교육과정에서 지향하는 것이며 정책적으로도 추진되고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 아직 개념화가 명확하게 되지 않은 과정 중심 평가의 의미와 그 실행 모델을 제안하고자 한다. 이를 위해 2015 개정 수학과 교육과정에서 평가에 대한 내용을 고찰하고, 최신 교육 평가 이론과 연구를 바탕으로 과정 중심 평가의 의미를 탐색하였다. 그리고 과정 중심 평가가 이루어져야 할 조건 등을 탐색하여 그 실행 방안을 모델로 제안하였다. 본 연구는 수학 수업 현장에서 과정 중심 평가를 실천하고 구체적인 방안을 모색하는 데 기초 역할을 할 수 있을 것이다.

도시 공간에서의 비디오 아트와 미디어 환경에의 재고 (Video Art and Media Environment in City Space)

  • 점점 증가되는 도시 속의 영상 프로젝션과 늘어나는 대형 스크린들은 도시의 미디어 환경을 재고하게 한다. 도시 속에서 미디어가 갖는 위상에 관한 물음에서 명확한 것은 미디어는 이제 추상적으로도 그 자체를 위해서도 존재하는 것이 아니며 가상 현실은 대도시의 일반적인 모습 속에서 존재하고 있다는 것이다. 대형화면으로 투사되는 비디오 이미지는 점점 관객들에게 접촉하는 듯한 느낌을 줌과 동시에 관람객들은 공간 속으로 몰입되는 느낌을 받게 된다. 본 논문은 도시 속의 비디오 아트 형태의 영상 프로젝션이 갖는 의미와 도시의 미디어 환경을 고찰해 봄으로써 대도시에서 비디오 아트 형태의 영상 프로젝션은 새로운 실재성, 가상과 현실, 몰입과 상호 작용성의 경험을 제공하며 도시의 미디어 환경의 관점에서 본다면 대도시라는 거대 텍스트는 어떤 주도적인 하나의 담론이 존재하지 않고 텍스트의 서로 상이한 담론들이 동시에 병립되어 서로 영향을 미치며 상호 소통되고 있음을 밝혔다.

로버트 벤투리와 알도 로시 건축에서 도시 경관의 의미와 해석에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Meaning and interpretation of Urban Landscape in Architecture of Robert Venturi and Aldo Rossi)

  • After the modern age, the rapid urbanizationhad a big impact on the then architecture. R. Venturi and A. Rossi are two of the leading architects, developing architecture in cities in the US and Europe respectively. This study shed light on a tangible and intangible meaning and interpretation of urban landscapes through their architectural thoughts and architectures. The followings are the physical and intangible meaning and interpretation in architectural thoughts and works of those two architects. Venturi understood that iconological landscapes at the roadside in large citiesare the nature of physical landscapes. To Venturi, the façades of buildings at the roadside are a part of signage such as traffic lights and road signs, and those façades have the meaning of symbolic systems beyond simple physical landscapes. To A. Rossi, types of buildings as physical townscapes are a key role supporting raw data of classification in architecture. And also, those types have significance of the basic data shedding light on the principles and history of cities. For intangible factors in R. Venturi's architecture, daily routine, function and use, time, a use for a building and others form complex architecture. And also, those factors describe shared values of the same period as the façades of buildings and complex symbols and formative lexicons in metaphorical terms. For A. Rossi's intangible factors, 'collective memory' is buried in inhabitants of the city, and with that, the city is a place for memory to its inhabitants. What is more, cities' monuments have intangible landscapes like 'sustainability', 'permanence' and so on. With lots of events happening throughoutcities, those monuments are the whole images of cities giving the value to the urban buildings that reside in cities. Finally, R. Venturi's all-encompassing complex architecture concept was extended on a tangible and intangible point of townscapes. It was found that A. Rossi's tangible thought was formed from the whole landscape of historic cities in then Italy as the background of time and place. Also, With types of urban buildings and 'collective memory', A. Rossi drew architectural norms and formats of unchangeable types.

까를로 스까르파 미술관 건축에 있어서의 컨버전디자인 수법과 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Characteristic of Conversion Design Methods by Carlo Scarpa's Museum Architecture)

  • Museum Architecture, passing through modem times, have been requested to make changes in order to respond to the necessities of current times as well, so that they come to develop various kinds of programs other than a mere exhibition. That is, museum began recognizing the diversity of activities available in the spaces and the openness to the public. And tried to keep up with the changes by linking the museum buildings with local community in urban architecture as a result. Conversion design is methodology aims at reforming old buildings into a museum or revitalizing buildings of historical significance into exhibition center, so that it made possible to utilize the texts of historical, cultural cities, which in turn contribute to the diversity of urban architecture and protection of buildings in environmental crisis. In the sense, the paper analyzes the life-long contribution and dedication of Carlo Scarpa, an Italian architect, in the conversion of museum architecture, and studies the style, techniques, and features witnessed from his architectural works, and finally offers an insight and a directing post to take advantage of diverse ways likely applicable in our urban architectures. Scarpa's features in his museum architecture are classified as follows: First, contrasting expression of reiteration and side by side to express the continuity of time Second, he conveyed implicated meanings through inserting contracted factors of the locality and traditionality. Third, his interest in formative works and handicraft had an influence on shaping conversion space Finally, expression of accidentally to change of a point of view.

웹 기반 학습에서의 교수-학습 방법에 관한 연구 (Study on the Teaching/Learning Methodology in WBI)

  • 본 연구는 웹을 이용한 수요자 중심의 수준별 학습이 가능하며, 가상현실 환경 하에서 처리되도록 WBI(Web Base Instruction)프로그램을 개발하여서 실제 결과를 적용하여서 분석을 하였다. 실험은 3학년 학생 127명을 대상으로 실험집단 85명과 비교집단 42명으로 두 그룹으로 나누어서 실험을 하였으며, 이를 토대로 한 실험은 4차시까지 실시되었으며, 두 그룹간의 형성평가를 실시하여 성취도를 평가하였다. 이 결과 실험 집단은 평균과 표준편차는 84.9와 16.82이었고 비교집단은 77.5와 14.39로 나타났다. 실험집단은 유의도 검증결과 91~95$\%$ 신뢰도일 때 “t-test"결과 0.0024(P$\le$0.05)로 나타나, 비교집단의 학업성취도보다 실험집단의 학업성취도가 유의 하다는 결론을 도출했다. 이 사실은 WBI프로그램을 활용한 수업은 학생들의 학업성취도 향상에 효과가 있다는 것을 말해준다.말해준다.

Frank Lloyd Wright의 건축작품에 나타난 라이트의 공간 해석과 구성방법에 관한 연구(硏究) (A Study on F. L. Wright's Interpretation of the Space and the Method of the Composition in his architectural works)

  • The aim of this study is to understand the original methods of architectural composition in F. L. Wright's works, For this purpose, the principal thoughts based on his organic architecture was examined over all others, and the results of this study are as follows. 1. F. L. Wright knew Taoist Philosophy, especially Lao-tzu's thought about space based on traditional oriental arts included traditional japanese arts by his superior intuition. this is similar to Froebel Thought in the principal theory, that is, his own unique field of abstract architectural education with three-dimensional geometry learned through Froebel Gifts. 2. Space is reality ; such Lao-tzu's thought, reversed the sense of values, influenced F. L. Wright's way to accomplish his own continuous space. that is to say, he attempted taking precedence of spatial organization by the unit of three-dimensional module made the substance, Froebel Blocks (3, 4, 5, 6 Gifts) into non-substance, and trying to do the methods of continuous liberal composition in architecture. which is his original accomplishment, namely his mentioned 'democratic' because of judging the space and the mold of architecture as individualities. 3. F. L. Wright treated the space as a positive entity, so that he created his own architecture organically combined with spaces and forms. : This was the result that he comprehended both formative, physical worth in West and spatial, non-physical worth in East as equivalence. It is understood that F. L. Wright's works combined with East and West are the significance of his architecture and the progress of true internationalities and modernization in modern architecture. 4. From the analyses of his works, we knew the fact that F. L. Wright's architecture, especially in the spatial organization were performed by the reasonable methods with geometric system of Froebel Gifts. In the observation of our fundamental way of thinking on his architecture, this study shows the necessity to let us get out of preconceptions and conclusions that the organic architecture is mysterious and difficult, but to systematize and put his organic methods to practical use.
