The objectives of this study were to examine the production processes and methods of "Forest Type Map Actualization Production (Database (DB) Construction Work Manual)" (Work Manual) identify issues associated with the production processes and methods, and suggest solutions for them by applying evaluation items to a 1:5k digital forest type map. The evaluation items applied to a forest type map were divided into zoning and attributes, and the issues associated with the production processes and methods of Work Manual were derived through analyzing the characteristics of the stand structure and fragmentation by administrative districts. Korea is divided into five divisions, where one is set as the area changed naturally and the other four areas set as the area changed artificially. The area changed naturally has been updated every five years, and those changed artificially have been updated annually. The fragmentation of South Korea was analyzed in order to examine the consistency of the DB established for each region. The results showed that, in South Korea, the number of patches increased and the mean patch size decreased. As a result, the degree of fragmentation and the complexity of shapes increased. The degree of fragmentation and the complexity of shapes decreased in four regions out of 17 regions (metropolitan cities and provinces). The results indicated that there were spatial variations. The "Forest Classification" defines the minimum area of a zoning as 0.1ha. This study examined the criteria for the minimum area of a zoning by estimating the divided object (polygon unit) in a forest type map. The results of this study revealed that approximately 26% of objects were smaller than the minimum area of a zoning. The results implied that it would be necessary to establish the definition and the regeneration interval of "Areas Changed Artificially and Areas Changed Naturally", and improve the standard for the minimum area of a zoning. Among the attributes of Work Manual, "Species Change" item classifies terrain features into 52 types, and 43 types of them belong to stocking land. This study examined distribution ratios by extracting species information from the forest type map. It was found that each of 23 species, approximately 53% of species, occupied less than 0.1% of Forested land. The top three species were pine and other species. Although undergrowth on unstocked forest land are classified in the terrain feature system, their definition and classification criteria are not established in the "Forest Classification" item. Therefore, it will be needed to reestablish the terrain feature system and set the definitions of undergrowth.
The effect of stand-growing-stock characteristics of thinning area and non-thinning area on forest fire was studied in this work. 14 spots were selected from 3 counties such as Yangyang, Injae, and Gapyeong and on-the-spot investigations were performed to evaluate the effect of forest fire. The stand-growing-stock characteristics on the spots were analyzed through the height of tree, breast height diameter, clear length, mortality of branch, forest tree standing crop density, degree of closure, and shrub and grass cover degree. The relation between forest fire and the risk of spread of forest fire were analyzed from the analysis of the stand-growing-stock characteristics. It is considered from this work that the possibility of forest fire is decreased on the thinning area compared to the non-thinning area because of higher clearlength, lower number of tree, lower mortality of branch and higher shrub and grass cover degree.
To investigate the procedure of natural plant succession on cutting slope in the forest roads, considered elapsed years and regional distribution, data were collected from natural and artificial treatment slope. And to elucidate the effective methods of revegetation on forest road slope, each seeding experiments carried out with 4 species(Themeda triandra, Lysimachia clethroides, Artemisia princeps and Lespedeza cyrtobotrya). The pioneer species on cutting slope in the forest road were Pinus densiflora, Lespedeza bicolor, Rhubus crataegiflora etc. in wood species, and Arundinella spp., Lysimachia barystachys, Artemisia spp. etc. in herb species. In process of year, plant coverage was increased and average of plant coverage was 30% in road slope which elapsed 5 years after construction. On short slope less than 3m, broadcast seeding method with straw mulch was more effective way than the other methods. Slope revegation work should be adapted with forest road construction work and revegetation work with native species will be effective.

Recently the integration and development of ST(Spatial Technology) and forest geographic information have been used very efficiently for the forest administration. However, even though many application system related to forest information have been developed and improved, there are still paper based inventories management and hand work for data construction and upgrade. In this study the forest information warehouse, which is mapped and managed at work-site operations, was constructed based GIS technology so that the standardization and consistency of current data could be acquired in real time. In addition, these thematic maps were conducted on high resolution satellite images and managed in web based forest information data warehouse form and finally shared through Internet for the very first-line administration officials. This study shows that the forest information standardization service of municipal governments very first time in the Korea and provides the unified decision making support and enterprise formed forest database so that is expected to be the very successful sample to suggest the prototype of national forest spatial data infrastructure.

In India, forest based insect enterprises has never been linked up with any forest management activity, either as a forest conservation strategy or to reduce the poverty in forested area. This investigation indicated that when forest dependent people are associated with forest insect industry (FII) like forest sericulture, lac culture or apiculture; this income generating activity links livelihood with forest conservation, and generates a viable model of collaborative forest management (CFM). In this model different stakeholders work together as a coherent entity for unified goal of managing the forest for well-being of the poor people in fringe areas. Article summaries and evaluates the prospect of India specific forest insect industry, and discusses how and to what extent integration of FII could be a viable livelihood component in CFM to conserve the forest and insect biodiversity. We analysed a case study on forestbased rearing of tropical tasar silkworm rearing in Central India from CFM perspective. Arguments in this communication are intended to provide forest managers and policy-makers with necessary input to consider location specific FII in CFM mode to provide a continuous source of small income to forest dependent people to ensure long lasting success of their forest management endeavours.

The purpose of this study was to identify and prioritize the key indicators and drivers of forest thinning. The research for this study was designed in two-phases: 1) sequential, exploratory, mixed methods research that was initiated with a qualitative phase (Delphi technique), and 2) the quantitative phase (Analytic Hierarchy Process technique). Results indicated that management and planning were the most important factors in the first level of criteria among the "management and planning," "directing and monitoring," "supervision," and "quality of thinning work." On the sub-criteria level, "the quality of forest management planning" was indicated as the most important factor among the ten sub-criteria. Our results have shown that the developed forest thinning evaluation factors were a well-represented characteristic for a variety of forest thinning work in Korea.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the satisfaction level of regular safety education to reduce and prevent accidents of forest workers. To achieve this goal, a questionnaire survey targeting 362 members of forest working group in National Forestry Cooperative Federation on the status of safety education, requirements for improving safety education, and satisfaction level of safety education. As a result of the analysis, the majority of the respondents said that the safety education should be improved by adding more training related to forestry work and practical education rather than the current lecture. In the effective safety education cycle, 43.8% of respondents said that the most effective once a week, and the most important factors that affect the satisfaction of safety education were the safety method and teaching ability, which were statistically significant.

A number of construction companies in Korea invest considerable human and financial resources to construct a system for managing apartment defect data and for categorizing repair tasks. Thus, this study proposes machine learning models to automatically classify defect complaint text-data into one of the sub categories of 'finishing work' (i.e., one of the defect repair tasks). In the proposed models, we employed two word representation methods (Bag-of-words, Term Frequency-Inverse Document Frequency (TF-IDF)) and two machine learning classifiers (Support Vector Machine, Random Forest). In particular, we conducted both binary- and multi- classification tasks to classify 9 sub categories of finishing work: home appliance installation work, paperwork, painting work, plastering work, interior masonry work, plaster finishing work, indoor furniture installation work, kitchen facility installation work, and tiling work. The machine learning classifiers using the TF-IDF representation method and Random Forest classification achieved more than 90% accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 score. We shed light on the possibility of constructing automated defect classification systems based on the proposed machine learning models.

The current study aims to analyze the vegetation characteristics of the rocky slopes in expressway applied by different types of greening work. A field survey on the current status of vegetation were conducted in 50 rock slopes along 13 expressways in two years, 2020 to 2021. Specifically, the type of implemented greening and slope stabilization work, the soil properties, the vegetation coverage, and the emerged species were investigated on a every single slope. As the result of the implemented work types, the soil-media hydroseeding and the gabion work appeared to be the most implemented greening and slope stabilization work, respectively. As a result of the vegetation survey, 126 classification groups (42 families, 93 genera and 126 species) were identified in total and it was observed 26 IAP species and 5 invasive species were growing. The longer the time after greening work, the more frequent appearance of IAP species were observed. Woody species such as Robinia pseudoacacia and Lespedeza bicolo, and perennial herbs such as Artemisia princeps, Erigeron annuus, and Festuca arundinacea were appeared with high frequencies at the rocky slopes in expressway. It was also observed Pinus densiflora, Quercus dentata, Rubus crataegifolius and Miscanthus sinensis which had invaded from the adjacent forests naturally, and the largest number of species were invaded between 5~10 years usually after greening work in this study.

This study analyzed and examined literature and legislation in Korean and other countries to examine the concept and sense of mapping of forest functions that would be used as basic information for efficient application and management of forest ecosystems. The mapping of forest functions in Germany has been utilized to field data for efficient work and management of the ecosystem, and evaluation of forest environmental ecology by the mapping of forest functions has been applied directly or indirectly in country management plans, conservation of nature and landscape management plans. Forest protection areas in Korea were analysed for creating a map of forest functions. As the results, forest functions could be sorted into five categories, such as conservation area of forest production, prevention of disasters, landscape and abiological natural resource, valuable biotope and ecosystem and civil recreation. The mapping method was applied to these 5 categories important conservation targets. It is considered that mapping of forest functions in Korea can be used for systematic forest works and efficient ecosystem utilization and management, as well as it use basic data for environmental and ecological comprehension and evaluation on forest and green tract of land on the level of country development and utilization.
