일개 여자대학교 한국 학생고 외국 학생의 건강상태지각, 건강증진행위 및 우울 비교 (Comparison of Perceived Health Status, Health Promoting Behaviors and Depression between Korean and Foreign Students at a Women's University)

  • Purpose: This research was conducted to investigate perceived health status, health promoting behaviors and depression level in Korean and foreign students at women's university. Methods: The sample group of this study consists of 100 Korean students at a women's university and 98 foreign students from China and Vietnam who were enrolled at the same university in G City. The research results were analyzed using the SAS program (Version 8.2) with Chi-square test, Fisher's exact test and t-test. Results: 1) The Korean students showed a significantly higher score in drinking and smoking than foreign students. Also, age, religion, part time job, stress and allowance were significantly different between the two groups. 2) The foreign students showed a significantly higher score in perceived health status and health promoting behavior than the Korean students. 3) The foreign students showed a significantly higher score in depression than the Korean students. Conclusion: In the development of health programs for foreign students, it is necessary to focus on reducing depression and to consider the traditions of their own countries. It is desired to conduct further study about health promoting behavior and factors affecting health with respect to the countries where the foreign students originated.

A Study on Integrating Digital Application into Foreign Language Education

  • The purpose of this paper is to discover how the use of digital applications can affect students' attitudes toward positive classroom participation and performance in learning a foreign language. Participants of this study were 128 students who took a foreign language class at a high school in central Korea. To find out students' perceptions and attitudes toward the effect of using a digital application for their foreign language study, online questionnaire and focus-group interview were conducted. Our research findings revealed that these students could engage in active language learning and experience learning improvement while studying a foreign language with digital applications. The improvement was possible by creating more interactive activities and quizzes. In addition, the digital application provided students immediate feedback. It gave students and teachers various motivations beyond the traditional 'chalk and talk' format of text-only-classes. This study provides an overview of the usefulness of digital application. In addition, it provides understanding for students' perceptions and involvement using digital application in a foreign language classroom.

한국에 거주하는 중국인유학생과 중국에 거주하는 중국현지 대학생의 한식에 대한 인식 및 선호도 (Perception and Preference for Korean Food among Chinese Students Residing in Korea and China)

  • The purpose of this study was to survey the perception and preference for Korean food among Chinese students residing in Korea (Chinese foreign students, N=69) and China (Chinese-locals, N=98). A total of 76.8% of Chinese foreign students and 70.4% of Chinese-locals had ever eaten Korean food in China before visiting Korea, and motivation to try Korean food at first was 'easy access to Korean food restaurants' (Chinese foreign students 38.6%, Chinese-locals 44.9%). The most important factors in selecting Korean food were 'taste' and 'price' (Chinese foreign students 72.7% and 18.2%, Chinese-locals 59.1% and 22.7%, respectively), and needed improvements for Korean food were 'spicy and salty taste' and 'nutritional aspect' (Chinese foreign students 54.5% and 25.8%, Chinese-locals 33.3% and 36.4%, p<0.05). The scores for perception of Korean food were significantly lower in Chinese-locals (2.99) than in Chinese foreign students (3.31)(p<0.001). Chinese foreign students preferred Bulgogi (20.5%), Neobiani (20.1%), and Galbijjim (17.9%), whereas Chinese-locals preferred Bulgogi (16.1%), Gimbap (16.1%), and Samgyetang (15.2%) (p<0.001). The most preferred condiment was 'Garlic' (18.0%) in Chinese foreign students, and 'Red pepper powder' (16.4%) in Chinese-locals. The results of the study can be used as a foundation to prepare a globalization strategy for Korean Food.

라이프스타일에 의한 한식전문점 고객의 추가마케팅만족의 차이 - 강원지역 외국인 유학생을 대상으로 - (Difference in Additional Marketing Satisfaction by Lifestyle of Korean Restaurant Customers - Focus on Foreign Students at University in Gangwon Province -)

  • The purpose of this article was to research the difference in additional marketing satisfaction by lifestyle of Korean restaurant customers (focus on foreign students at university in Gangwon province). In this research, factor analysis, cluster analysis, and ANOVA were carried out. Lifestyle was divided into seven factors and six clusters. Additional marketing satisfaction was divided into three factors. Additional marketing satisfaction showed a significant difference by lifestyle of foreign students. First, 'employee' had a highest point at C3 'convenience internet searching pursuit' but lowest point at C4 'brand preference pursuit' (p<0.001). 'Service process' had a highest point at C1 'safety health pursuit' but lowest point at C5 'effort pursuit' (p<0.001). 'Tangible clue' had a highest point at C3 'convenience internet searching pursuit' but lowest point at C5 'effort pursuit' (p<0.001). Additional marketing can reduce customer uncertainty, ambiguities, and wavering about eating at restaurants by intangibility of service. As a result, food-service corporations need to manage additional marketing as well as increase satisfaction and loyalty of customers.

A Study on Correlation of Multi-Cultural Social Distance with Immigrant upon Xenophobia in Korea Society

  • Purpose - This study investigated xenophobia that has been a serious social problem, and classified multi-cultural groups in Korea into married immigrant, foreign labor workers and foreign students studying in Korea to examine the effects of fixed idea on multi-cultural persons, multi-cultural education experience, multi-cultural sensitivity, good feeling on multi-cultural persons upon social distance with multi-cultural persons, and to find out counteractions and cultural capacity on the xenophobia. Research design, data, and methodology - The study classified multi-cultural persons into married women immigrant, foreign labor worker, and foreign students studying in Korea to examine the effects of their thoughts on cultural cognition. Self-administered questionnaire was used. The subject was college students in Gyeonggi, Gyeongnam and Chungcheong with industrial complexes, more married women immigrants and more foreign students studying in Korea. Results - As shown in the findings, Korean people had different emotion and preference on married immigrant or foreign students studying in Korea and foreign labor workers. Conclusions - This study investigated the effect of multi-cultural person's cultural distance upon xenophobia. Different preference to multi-cultural persons depending upon fixed idea might produce xenophobia, so that the government was demanded to establish various kinds of policies of lives to live life together with immigrant at government level.

이공계 대학 유학생을 위한 수학교육 프로그램 설계 및 적용 (A Study on the Design of Mathematics Education Program for Foreign Students Majoring in Natural Science and Engineering at University in Korea)

  • 이 연구는 국내 이공계 대학에 진학한 유학생들의 전공기초 역량을 신장시키고 중도탈락을 예방하기 위한 수학교육 프로그램을 개발하는데 그 목적이 있다. 연구자는 유학생을 위한 수학교육 프로그램의 핵심인 보충 교재를 개발하여 5차시 분량의 수업에 실제로 적용하였다. 적용 대상은 중국인 유학생 5명으로, 남학생 4명과 여학생 1명이며, 유학생들은 공과대학과 자연과학대학에 소속되어 있다. 이 연구를 수행하기 위하여 연구자는 5차시 분량의 수업 동영상을 모두 촬영하여 그 내용을 전사하였으며, 전사된 내용은 NVivo 12를 활용하여 질적으로 분석되었다. 분석 결과, 수학교육 프로그램에 참여하기 전, 유학생들은 무리함수와 지수함수의 그래프를 전혀 그리지 못하였고 극한의 개념도 전혀 이해하지 못하였다. 그러나 이 프로그램을 적용한 결과, 모든 유학생들이 무리함수와 지수함수의 그래프 개형을 그릴 수 있었으며, 극한값도 정확하게 계산하였다. 이공계 유학생을 위한 수학교육 프로그램 개발 시, 그들의 수준에 맞는 교재 개발이 매우 중요하다. 교재 개발 시에는 대학 수학에 학습하는데 핵심이 되는 내용을 선정·조직하고 유학생들의 한국어 수준을 고려하여 수학적 개념이나 예제를 제시할 필요가 있다. 또한 한국에서 통용되는 수학 용어를 자국어나 영어로 함께 제시하려는 노력도 필요할 것이다.

통합적 행동의도모델 적용에 의한 국내 대학생 소비자의 해외 진 브랜드 구매의도 분석 (Korean College Students' Purchase Intention of Foreign Jeans Brands -Applying an Integrated Behavioral Intention Model-)

  • The Korean jean market has become increasingly competitive due to the increased imports of global brands. This study is to understand the purchase behaviors of Korean college students toward foreign brand jeans to help Korean jean brands enhance their competitive advantages over foreign brand jeans in the Korean market. Considering perceptions of Korean consumers toward foreign brands and traditional value changes, this study proposed a research model incorporating two extended behavioral intention (BI) models, Lee's modified BI model and Ajzen's theory of planned behavior. To test the research model, a total of 240 valid data sets were collected from college students in Busan, Korea. Structural and measurement models were estimated using LISREL 8.80. Because face saving failed to attain internal validity, the research model was revised to eliminate face saving. The findings indicated that perceived behavioral control had the strongest direct influence on purchase intentions of Korean college students for foreign brand jeans. Group conformity and subjective norm had non-significant direct impacts on purchase intention, whereas group conformity had an indirect impact on purchase intention through attitude. Based on the findings, theoretical and managerial implications were provided.

Study on the Satisfaction Factors of College Selection for International Students and Pre-educated Local Education Center Students

  • As the attracting foreign student has become a very important strategy, detailed researches on their college selection and their satisfaction with college life are needed. Especially it is necessary to distinguish ordinary international students and those who take classes in Local Education Centers (LEC) before coming to Korea. The central purpose of this study is to identify how the two types of students differ in their perception of college selection factors and what factors affect their satisfaction with college life. A total of 186 international students participated in the study. It was found that the most important college selection factor of the pre-educated LEC students was 'obtaining academic ability through online classes and transfer of credit hours'. Second, these students reported that the two influential factors for their satisfaction with college life were 'quality of education' and 'cultural experience program'. Third, it was found that the major college selection factors influencing ordinary international students' college life satisfaction were 'expertise of faculty', 'transfer of credit through curriculum links', and 'recommendation from teachers at home country'. Fourth, the major factors affecting the pre-educated LEC students' satisfaction with college life were 'KSL classes at LE's', 'expertise of faculty', and 'financial aid system'.

일 도시 간호대학생의 소수집단에 대한 사회적 거리감 (A Study on Social Distance of Nursing Students toward Minority Groups in a Metropolitan City)

  • Purpose: To survey the social distance of nursing students toward minority groups (immigrants, foreign workers, Saeteomins, and foreign students) and compare them according to general and multicultural characteristics. Methods: The subjects were 409 students from two nursing schools at G metropolitan city. Data were collected with self-reported questionnaires from April 2012 to June 2012, and analyzed by descriptive statistics (t-test, analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Scheffe test) using the SPSS/WIN 17.0 program. Results: The mean scores of social distance were $1.90{\pm}0.57$ (out of 4 points) and scores significantly differed according to religion (t=3.095, p=.002), tourist experiences in foreign countries (t=-2.651, p=.008), and for Asian background of minority groups. There were also differences according to the number of foreign friends(F=4.924, p=.008) and duration of friendships(F=3.913, p=.021). Conclusion: The level of social distance of nursing students was lower than average but needs to be reduced. We suggest further studies on the social distance toward each minority group and the development of valid scales for social distance and its related variables.

베트남 유학생들의 행복한 대학생활 적응 방안 - 생활·경제, 복지 환경, 대학 전공 교육, 언어 연수 설문 조사를 기반으로 - (Way to on the Improvement of University Life in Vietnam Foreign Student Abroad - Based on a Survey of Living, Economic, Welfare Environment, University Major Education, and Language Training -)

  • 2000년대 이후 국내 외국인 유학생은 크게 증가하였다. 2010년대 후반 정부의 고등교육 국제화 전략으로 인해 2019년 현재 외국인 유학생 수는 14만 명이 되었으며, 2023년에는 20만 명에 이를 전망이다. 우리 사회의 국제화와 인구절벽의 사회적 문제 앞에 외국인 유학생의 수가 증가하고 있는 것은 상당히 고무적인 일이며, 앞으로 이들의 행복한 유학생활은 상당히 중요한 문제가 되었다. 최근 한국에서 유학하는 베트남 유학생 수가 증가하고 있는데, 이들의 행복한 유학생활에 대해 관심을 가질 필요가 있다. 이에 이 연구에서는 베트남 유학생들의 행복한 유학생활을 위한 방안을 제안하고자 하였다. 한국 사회에 유입되고 있는 외국인 유학생들도 우리 사회의 한 구성원으로 인식하고 행복한 유학생활을 할 수 있도록 생활·경제, 복지, 교육 등의 측면에서 함께 노력해 가야 할 것이다.
