  • Up to now, various continuous-processing systems are used in many industrial applications such as textile machines, paper-making machines, printing machines, and so on. In these applications, the tension forced on the products in the control volume can be changed according to the velocity difference between the feeding roll and the delivery roll. Specially, the tension variation generated by the velocity difference, or the inertial effect can decreases the quality of the products in the textile process. In this paper, the tension control problem in a circular knitting machine system is treated to cope with these problems. Firstly, the tension relationship in the winding mechanism of general continuous-processing systems is modeled. Next, to effectively drive the feeding and delivery rolls in the circular knitting machine system, a new tension control method is presented by considering the inertia compensation and the velocity difference between the feeding roll and the delivery roll. Through the experimental works, it is shown that the proposed tension control method can be used to improve the performance of tension control in the control volume of the given circular knitting machine system.

  • In this paper, a two-phase structural health monitoring system using acceleration response signatures are presented to firstly alarm the change in structural condition and to secondly detect the changed location for full-scale concrete girder bridges. Firstly, Mihocheon Bridge which is a two-span continuous concrete girder bridge is selected as the target structure. The dynamic response features of Mihocheon Bridge are extracted by forced vibration test using bowling ball. Secondly, the damage alarming occurrence and the damage localization techniques are selected to design two-phase structural health monitoring system for Mihocheon Bridge. As the damage alarming techniques, auto-regressive model using time-domain signatures, correlation coefficient of frequency response function and frequency response ratio assurance criterion are selected. As the damage localization technique, modal strain energy-based damage index method is selected. Finally, the feasibility of two-phase structural health monitoring systems is evaluated from static loading tests using a dump truck.

  • Recently. the excessive diesel engine torsional excitation of typical energy saving ships has resulted in severe damages of the propeller shaft. Up to now the design and torsional vibration analysis of the marine diesel shafting system has been performed on the assumption that excitations are deterministic. But a diesel engine excitation varies randomly from cylinder to cylinder and from cycle to cycle, due to the imperfect operation of the engine components due to engine misfiring. consequently, a more rational analysis method for the propulsion shafting torsional vibration is required. In this paper probabilistic analysis method of the marine diesel engine shafting system under torsional vibration is presented. First a response surface representing maximum shear stresses in a shafting system is built. Then Monte Carlo simulation with subsequent approximation of the results by one of Pearson's curves, is performed. Some numerical results based on the proposed method are compared with t도 some numerical data available. They show acceptable agreements with the data.

  • Currently, Korea is an aging society, and it is expected to enter a super-aging society in about 4 years. Accordingly, many X-ray technologies are being developed. In X-rays, 99% of X-rays are converted into heat energy and 1% into light energy (X-rays). 99% of the thermal energy raises the temperature of the anode and its surroundings, and the cooling system is an important factor as overheating can affect the deterioration of X-ray quality and shortened lifespan. There is a method of forced air cooling using natural convection. Therefore, in this study, when X-rays were taken 5 times, Flow analysis was performed on heat removal according to temperature rise and cooling time for the heat generated at the anode of the X-ray tube (input power 60kW, 75kW, 90kW). Based on one-shot, the most rapid temperature rise section increased by more than 57% to 0.03 seconds, A constant temperature rises from 0.03 seconds to 0.1 seconds, It is judged that the temperature rises by about 8.2% or more at one time. After one-shot cooling, the cooling drops sharply from about 60% to 0.03 seconds, It is judged that the temperature has cooled by more than 86% compared to the temperature before shooting. One-shot is cooled by more than 86% with cooling time after 0.1 seconds, As the input power of the anode increases, the cooling temperature gradually increases. Since the tungsten of the anode target inside the X-ray tube may be damaged by thermal shock caused by a rapid temperature rise, an improvement method for removing thermal energy is required when using a high-input power supply.

  • Purpose The purpose of this study is to examine the customer experience of generative AI among office workers aged 30 to 40, investigating usability, usefulness, and affect, and understanding concerns and expectations. Design/Methodology/Approach This research used Q methodology to assess the customer experience of generative AI. Users are engaged in a problem-solving journey, and data is collected by having participants rank 36 statements based on usability, usefulness, and affect, referred to as the three goals of User Experience. Participants use a forced distribution table with a scale from -5 to +5 to indicate the subjective importance of each statement. The results identified four groups, reflecting different perspectives and attitudes toward generative AI. Findings Participants express overall comfort with generative AI, perceive AI as more knowledgeable in unfamiliar domains, but harbor doubts about AI's understanding. Disagreements emerge on AI replacing humans, the value of unique human roles, data confidentiality, fears of AI advancement, and emotional impacts. Identified four groups: Users who treat AI as a soulless assistant and are active in business use, Uncle users who want to use new technologies properly and are not afraid of technology, users who recognize the limits of AI despite its efficiency, and users who require strong verification in the future. It has the potential to guide future guidelines, ethical codes, and regulations for the appropriate use of AI. In addition, this approach lays the groundwork for future empirical analyses of generative AI.

  • Location-Based Services(LBS) give rise to location-based queries of which results depend on the locations of moving objects. One of important applications of LBS is to examine tracks of continuously moving objects. Moving objects databases need to provide 3-dimensional indexing for efficiently processing range queries on the movement of continuously changing positions. An extension of the 2-dimensional R-tree to include time dimension shows low space utilization and poor search performance, because of high overlap of index nodes and their dead space. To solve these problems, we propose a new R-tree based indexing technique, namely TR-tree. To increase storage utilization, we assign more entries to the past node by using the unbalanced splitting policy. If two nodes are highly overlapped, these nodes are forcibly merged. It is the forced merging policy that reduces the dead space and the overlap of nodes. Since big line segments can also affect the overlap of index nodes to be increased, big line segments should be clipped by the clipping policy when splitting overfull nodes. The TR-tree outperforms the 3DR-tree and TB-tree in all experiments. Particularly, the storage utilization of the TR-tree is higher than the R-tree and R*-tree.

  • The characteristics of the manoeuvring motion of a ship are dependent on the ship type, as well as draft or speed in the same ship. In recent years, the number of extra-large vessels has increased significantly, which can cause enormous material and environmental damage in the event of a marine accident. Thus, the importance of ship maneuvering is increasing. The IMO has forced the officers to be trained in simulators through the STCW 95 amendment. However, FMSS is costly and difficult to access and the PC-based simulator has the disadvantage that only one person can engage in simulation. The purpose of this study was to solve the shortcomings of the FMSS and PC-based simulators by enabling multiple people to use their PCs to simulate based on a network. The simulator is implemented through the analysis and numerical calculation of the Nomoto model, Radar function mounting, data transfer protocol design, and GUI building. To verify the simulator, the simulation results were compared and analyzed with the test results of T.S. HANBADA according to the criteria of the Korean Register of Shipping(KR) and IMO standards for ship maneuverability. As a result, It showed a relative error of 0%~ 32.1% with an average of 13.7%, and it satisfied the IMO criteria for ship maneuverability.

  • Since the first diesel passenger car hit the local road in late 2005, the share of diesel cars is growing significantly; possibly up to the level as in the western Europe. In this study, the effects of introduction of diesel passenger cars on the ventilation rate and facility capacity are analyzed for the three individual cases with different basic exhaust rate based on the vehicle age, the vehicle class percentage and the smoke exhaust rate. The target tunnel for this comparative study is a typical 2 km-long 2-lane highway tunnel. Case 1 assuming the current local design standards and the diesel vehicles comprising 40% of the total passenger cars on the road required more ventilation rate and facility capacity than in the case only with the current standards. Case 2 which is the real tunnel currently in the designing stage taking into account the vehicle age but ignoring the diesel vehicle ratio, and Case 3 on the contrary considering the both factors show similar level of ventilation characteristics as EURO-3 emission regulation. Application of the emission standard set by the Ministry of Environment for newly manufactured vehicles in the current local tunnel design standard indicates higher requirements than for EURO-2 regulation, whereas the emission standard came into effect in 2006 results in the ventilation characteristics similar to EURO-4. This study aims at providing fundamental information for assessing the basic emission rate and determining the optimal ventilation rate and facility capacity considering the growing percentage of diesel cars and gradually decreasing level of smoke emission forced by the relevant laws.

  • Under the regulation of rational energy use in public institutions, it has been mandatory for educational facilities to meet the first grade or higher since 2014. Also the regulation has forced educational facilities as public institutions to use renewable energy since September 2008. Educational facilities are required to be qualified as zero-energy buildings from 2020 under the revision of the Green Building Act. In this study, we identified the current status of the building energy efficiency rating system and the renewable energy system installation for 316 educational facilities that were accredited as "building energy efficiency rating system" from February 2015 to March 2019. Also we analyzed the energy self-sufficiency rate based on energy requirements and renewable energy output. Of the 316 facilities, 12 had 1++ and 293 had 1++ for the "Building Energy Efficiency Rating System". Among the 12 facilities which had 1+++, 11 recorded ZEB level 5 or higher, and 28 out of the 293 facilities(11%) which got received 1++ had ZEB level 5. Thus, it is impossible to implement the ZEB certification system for educational facilities under the present conditions. Expanding the ratio of 1+++ and investing in renewable energy systems should be preceded.
