Forced Vibration Analysis for Duffing's Vibration Systems with the Multi-Degree-of-Freedom Systems (다자유도계를 갖는 듀핑 진동계의 강제진동해석)

  • As ship's propulsion shafting system has been complicated, many linear methods that have been used until now are not sufficient enough to produce proper solutions and these solutions are ofter unreasonable. So we need to solve nonlinear systems, and many methods for solving nonlinear vibration system have been developed. In this study, the propulsion shafting system was modeled with Duffing's nonlinear vibration system and multi-degree-of-freedom, and analyzed by using Quasi-Newton method. And for the purpose of confirming the reliability of the calculating results for nonlinear forced torsional vibration of the propulsion shafting system, the nonlinear calculated results were compared with the linear calculated ones for ship's propulsion shafting system. In the result, for analysis of the forced torsional vibration of the propulsion systems with nonlinear elements, the modified Newton's method is confirmed reasonable.

Fundamental Study on Oscillating Tillage -Model Test on Draft Force, Torque, Power and Moment (진동경운(振動耕耘)에 관(關)한 기초연구(基礎硏究) -견인력(牽引力), 토오크, 소요동력(所要動力) 및 모멘트에 관(關)한 모형실험(模型實驗)-)

  • A laboratory model test was carried out with a newly designed model to figure out the vibration characteristics of the vibratory tillage tool according to the method of forced vibration, i.e., horizontally and vertically forced vibrations. The results are summarized as follows: 1. The reduction ratios of the draft force of the vibratory blade were 14.2-42.6% for the case where the vibration was forced parallel to the travelling direction of the blade, and 15-54.5% for the vertically forced vibration. And it was thought that the method of vertically forced vibration was preferable to the reduction of the draft force. 2. The ratio of the draft force of a vibratory blade to that of a static one could be represented as a function of V/At. It was found to be possible to reduce the draft force by taking a lower value of (V/Af) and this meant that the effictiveness of tillage practice using the vibratory system would be limited. 3. The torque to the main rotating shaft to vibrate the model blade increased frequency and amplitude. This tendency varied according to the physical properties of tested soil. In case of horizontally forced vibration, the torque was 8~34% less than in case of vertically forced vibration. 4. With the increase of frequency, the total power requirement increased linearly, and also the portion of oscillating power requirement in the total power tended to increase. The magnitude of the total power requirement was 1.4-13 times greater than that of a static one for the case of horizontal vibration, and 1.5-15 times greater for the case of vertical vibration. It was thought that the horizontal vibration of the blade was preferable to the vertical vibration in view of the power requirement. 5. A linearity was found between the amplitude of moment oscillogram and magnitude of oscillating acceleration. Only positive values of moment occurred when the blade was forced to vibrate vertically, but negative values occurred in rarity in the case of amplitude A3 when the blade was forced to vibrate horizontally.

A study on the calculation of forced torsional vibration with damping for the marine diesel engine shafting by the mechanical impedance method (기계적 임피던스법에 의한 박용 디젤기관 추진축계의 강제감쇠 비틀림 진동의 계산에 관한 연구)

  • Nowadays, the natural frequencies and their relative amplitudes of torsional vibration for the marine diesel engine shafting are usually calculated by the Holzer method and also its resonant amplitudes are estimated by the energy method, that is, by equating the exciting energy to the damping one. Therefore, the forced vibration amplitudes out of the resonant points can not be calculated by the above-mentioned method. And so, the reasonable barred-ranges of torsional vibration can not be set and also the flank of resonant point which locates near the calculation limit can not be estimated. For such problems, the equation of forced vibration with damping must be solved directly and these results can be utilized to derive the synthesized torsional vibration of the marine diesel engine propulsion shafting. In this study, the equation of forced vibration with damping for the marine diesel engine propulsion shafting is derived and its steady-state vibration is calculated by the mechanical impedance method. For numerical calculation of the actual propulsion shafting a computer program is developed. In order to prove the reliability of this program, an actual ship's propulsion shafting whose torsional vibration was measured is analyzed and the calculated propulsion shafting whose torsional vibration was measured is analyzed and the calculated results are compared with the measured ones. And also, they are compared with the calculated results which were obtained by the modal analysis.

  • A vibration excitation system was designed and built of forced vibration experiments for using stepping motor and load cell. The identified flutter derivatives of the thin-plate acrylic model were very close to the analytical results of the idealized plate presented by Theodorsen. Five types of sectional models were tested in the wind tunnel using the proposed forced vibration method. To investigate the frequency, amplitude and angle of attack effects on flutter derivatives.

Extraction of rational functions by forced vibration method for time-domain analysis of long-span bridges

  • Rational Functions are used to express the self-excited aerodynamic forces acting on a flexible structure for use in time-domain flutter analysis. The Rational Function Approximation (RFA) approach involves obtaining of these Rational Functions from the frequency-dependent flutter derivatives by using an approximation. In the past, an algorithm was developed to directly extract these Rational Functions from wind tunnel section model tests in free vibration. In this paper, an algorithm is presented for direct extraction of these Rational Functions from section model tests in forced vibration. The motivation for using forced-vibration method came from the potential use of these Rational Functions to predict aerodynamic loads and response of flexible structures at high wind speeds and in turbulent wind environment. Numerical tests were performed to verify the robustness and performance of the algorithm under different noise levels that are expected in wind tunnel data. Wind tunnel tests in one degree-of-freedom (vertical/torsional) forced vibration were performed on a streamlined bridge deck section model whose Rational Functions were compared with those obtained by free vibration for the same model.

Fatigue Life Estimation of Solid-state Drive due to the Effect of Dummy Solder Ball under Forced Vibration (Solid-state drive 강제진동시 dummy solder ball 효과에 의한 피로수명 예측)

  • This research proposes a method to estimate the fatigue life of solid-state drive(SSD) due to the effect of dummy solder ball under forced vibration. Mechanical jig is developed to describe the SSD in laptop computer. The jig with SSD is mounted on a shaker, and excited by a sinusoidal sweep vibration within the narrow frequency band around the first resonant frequency until the SSD fails. A finite element model of SSD is also developed to simulate the forced vibration. It shows that the solder joints at the corners of controller package are most vulnerable components and that placing dummy solder balls at those area is effective method to increase fatigue life of SSD.

  • Forced vibration analysis of a cracked functionally graded microbeam is investigated by using modified couple stress theory with damping effect. Mechanical properties of the functionally graded beam change vary along the thickness direction. The crack is modelled with a rotational spring. The Kelvin-Voigt model is considered in the damping effect. In solution of the dynamic problem, finite element method is used within Timoshenko beam theory in the time domain. Influences of the geometry and material parameters on forced vibration responses of cracked functionally graded microbeams are presented.

  • System identification of real-scale structure is performed using forced vibration test. There exist various techniques available for identifying the dynamic characteristis of structures using dynamic and static measurements. In this study, The finite element(FE) model of the structure is analytically constructed using ANSYS and the model was updated using the results experimentally measured by the forced vibration test. forced vibration tests showed that Hybrid Mass Damper induced floor responses coincided with the earthquake induced ones which was numerically calculated based on the updated FE model.

  • The free and forced vibration in addition to electric energy harvesting of a piezoelectric disk resting on two-parameter foundation modeled by modified couple stress as well as Kirchhoff plate theory is probed. The governing equations and boundary conditions are obtained using Hamilton's principle. Then, the free and forced vibration are solved using numerical solutions, generalized differential quadrature method (GDQM) and Newmark-beta method. The forced vibration is resulted from a base excitation load. Also, the possible voltage which can be harvested from this system is obtained using generalized integral quadrature method. The validity of the formulation and solution procedure is confirmed using a compassion study. The impact of parameters such as length effect, inner to outer radius ratio, and foundations parameters on the free and forced vibration as well as energy harvesting is investigated in detail. This paper can be a basis for future studies in the area of piezoelectric harvesters in small scales.

Numerical investigation of vortex shedding and vortex-induced vibration for flexible riser models

  • The numerical study about the vortex-induced vibration and vortex shedding in the wake has been presented. Prior to the numerical simulation of flexible riser systems concerning engineering conditions, efficiency validating of the proposed FSI solution method have been performed. The comparison between numerical simulation and published experimental data shows that the CFD method designed for FSI solution could give acceptable result for the VIV prediction of flexible riser/pipe system. As meaningful study on VIV and vortex shedding mode with the focus on flexible riser model systems, two kinds of typical simulation cases have been carried out. One was related to the simulation of vortex visualization in the wake for a riser model subject to forced oscillation, and another was related to the simulation of fluid-structure interaction between the pipes of coupled multi-assembled riser system. The result from forced oscillation simulation shows that the vortex-induced vibration with high response frequency but small instantaneous vibration amplitude contributes to vortex conformation as much as the forced oscillation with large normalized amplitude does, when the frequency of forced oscillation was relatively high. In the multi-assembled riser systems, it has been found that the external current velocity and the distance between two pipes are the critical factors to determine the vibration state and the steady vibration state emerging in quad-pipe system may be destroyed more easily than dual-pipe system.
