This paper deals with the dynamic stability of a brake shoe under pulsating frictional forces. A lining part of brake systems is assumed as a distributed spring, and the supported elements of a shoe are assumed as translational springs for a constant distributed frictional force and a pulsating frictional force. Governing equations are derived by the use of the extended Hamilton's principle, and numerical results are calculated by finite element method. The critical distributed frictional force and instability regions were investigated for the change of distributed spring constants and translational spring constants.
Tilting train improves a traveling velocity through giving a tilt the car-body without ride comfort deterioration in curve. Dynamic behavior in acceleration or deceleration will show quite another feature in constant velocity. In this study, we see through the dynamic behavior due to a variation of tractive force and braking force in Korean Tilting Train. Hence we compose of 3D dynamic model, as well as we check upon the property in service tractive condition and unique tractive condition with a fault motor. Besides we check upon the property in service braking condition and unique braking condition with a fault system. This study has the meaning with reference data of developing Korean Tilting Train test traveling.
In this study, based on the results from the sinusoidal base excitation analyses of a single degree of freedom system with a tuned mass damper (TMD), it is verified that optimal friction force can improve the performance of a TMD like a linear viscous damper which has been usually used in general TMD. The magnitude of the optimal friction increases with increasing mass ratio of the TMD and decreases with increasing structural damping. Particularly, it is observed that the optimized friction force gives better control performance than the optimized viscous damping of the TMD. However, because the performance of the TMD considerably deteriorates when the friction force increases over the optimal value, it is required to keep the friction force from exceeding the optimal value.
Explicit design formulae of liquid column vibration absorber (LCVA) for suppressing harmonic vibration of structures with small inherent structural damping are developed in this study. The developed design formulae are also applicable to the design of a tuned mass damper (TMD) and a tuned liquid column damper (TLCD) for damped structures under harmonic force excitation. The optimum parameters of LCVA for suppressing harmonic vibration of undamped structures are first derived. Numerical searching of the optimum parameters of tuned vibration absorber system for suppressing harmonic vibration of damped structure is conducted. Explicit formulae for these optimum parameters are then obtained by a series of curve fitting techniques. The analytical result shows that the control performance of TLCD for reducing harmonic vibration of undamped structure is always better than that of non-uniform LCVA for same mass and length ratios. As for the effects of structural damping on the optimum parameters, it is found that the optimum tuning ratio decreases and the optimum damping ratio increases as the structural damping is increased. Furthermore, the optimum head loss coefficient is inversely proportional to the amplitude of excitation force and increases as the structural damping is increased. Numerical verification of the developed explicit design expressions is also conducted and the developed expressions are demonstrated to be reasonably accurate for design purposes.
The test specimen in environmental vibration test is connected to the fixture through several attachment points. The forces generated by the shaker must be transmitted equally to all attachment points. The forces transmitted to attachment points, however, are different because of the flexural vibration of the fixture. The variations of the transmitted force cause the under-test, especially at anti-resonance frequencies, in vibration test control. Anti-resonance frequencies at the attachment points of the fixture must be same in order to avoid the under-test in vibration test control. The structural modification of the fixture is needed so that anti-resonance frequencies at attachment points have the same value. In this paper, the method to calculate the anti-resonance frequencies and those sensitivities is presented. This sensitivity analysis is applied to the structural modification of the fixture excited at multi-points by the shaker. The antiresonance frequencies at the attachment points of the fixture can have the same value after structural modification, and the under-test in the vibration test control can be removed. Several computer simulations show that the proposed method can remove the under-tests, which are not removed in conventional vibration test control.
Structural members are designed to maintain the load-carrying capacity as well as structural strength, and the structural serviceability such as the deflection, cracks, and vibration to give the occupants uncomfortable environment should be checked. Recently, the importance of the vibration has been issued since the Techno Mart accident due to vibration resonance. This study provides a passive vibration control system using the repulsion force of magnets to reduce dynamic vibrations. The systems is devised by importing the constraint condition by a hinge to operate magnets installed at two adjacent locations. The effectiveness of the proposed system is investigated by the vibration control test of a steel beam with and without the control system. It is illustrated in the test that the system is activated by the control forces executed by the magnets and can be utilized in reducing the dynamic responses. The system can be applied to pedestrian bridge and traffic bridge. The applicability is expected in the future by optimizing the factors to affect the dynamic responses like the intensity, mass, locations of magnets.
The aim of this study is to develop a vertical vibration compensator that attenuates the vertical vibration of ships. The vibration compensator was designed according to the principle of generating vertical excitation forces by rotating two eccentric bodies of the same mass in opposite directions at the same rotational speed. In addition, the structural stability was analyzed using the finite element method. The maximum stress in the drive shaft was 95.6 MPa, which was approximately 35% of the allowable stress of the shaft material (SM45C, 270 MPa). The acceleration signals of the vibrator compensator body and the testbed were determined to evaluate the efficiency of the vibration compensator and the designed excitation forces. Subsequently, the excitation forces were estimated based on the relationship between force and acceleration. The estimated results were very close to the theoretical values with an error of less than 3%.
The noise and vibration of rolling piston-type compressors used in the most of the airconditional system is a serious and important problem occurred during turning on and off as well as during operating. To analyze the vibration occurred during turning on and oft, the vibration analysis of motor-compressor coupling is required. In this paper, through modeling of the motor, solving the force from the equations of motion of the moving parts and considering the stiffness of the rubber mounts, the analysis of vibration was performed.
Generally, characteristics of electromechanical actuators are coupled with the mechanical and the electrical properties. Important mechanical parameters of these actuators are the achievable force and displacement in the presence of electric field. These mechanical parameters are related to the stress and strain of the materials and the actuator geometry. This paper presents how to measure the blocked force by using the micro-balance. The blocked force is defined as the force produced by the transducer under an applied voltage when the tip is constrained to zero motion. Also, a theoretical force by using the cantilever beam model is calculated under elastic domain. From the sample of 4 cm $\times$ 1 cm $\times$ 20 $\mu$m, the blocked farce measured from the equipment is 20.3 $\mu$N at 8 V$_{DC}$. By comparing it with the theoretical value, 24.9 $\mu$N, the blocked force measurement is acceptable. The furce measurement is also investigated with different AC electric fields and the frequency.
This paper presents the analysis for power consumption, mechanical vibration and acoustic noise characteristics of the Coreless and Slotless Brushless DC motor in Digital Lightening Processor(DLP) Motor with the Air-Dynamic Bearing. The Coreless BLDC motor has not the stator yoke as well as the stator slot to remove the unbalance force by the interaction between the stator yoke and Air-Dynamic Bearing clearance. The assembling tolerance and the processing error make the air-gap difference between the magnet and the stator yoke .which occurs the unbalanced electro-magnetic force in the Slotless BLDC motor. It imposes the air-dynamic bearing on the disturbance force and makes the Air-Dynamic Bearing vibrated and noised. Also, The attractive force between the magnet and the silicon steel stator yoke increases the power consumption. In this paper, the power consumption, mechanical vibration and acoustic noise of the Coreless BLDC motor and the Slotless BLDC motor with the silicon steel stator yoke are simulated, analyzed, and tested using the manufactured proto-type motors with Air-Dynamic bearing. The simulated and tested results present that the Coreless BLDC motor without the silicon steel stator yoke has the lower mechanical vibration and noise ,and lower power consumption than the Slotless BLDC motor with the silicon steel stator yoke in Digital Lightening Processor Motor with Air-Dynamic Bearing.
