  • This paper proposes controller of leader robot considering following robot with input constraints based on leader-following approach. In the previous formation control researches, it was assumed that leader and follower is same object. If leader robot drives as maximum speed that the initial position errors still remain even if following robot have same velocity as a leader. In the situation that velocity of following robot is lower than its leader robot, following robot cannot follow leader robot. Furthermore, the following robot will not be able to made formation with leader robot and keep proximity communication or sensing range. Therefore, multiple mobile robot system using leader-following method should be guaranteed range to get information each other. In this paper, Leader robot is driving to goal position using linear controller and following robot is following trajectory to be made from leader robot. We assume that following robot has input constraints to realize different performance between leader robot and following robot. We design controller of leader robot for desired goal position including the errors between formation and following robot. Thus, we propose leader robot controller considering input constraints of following robot. Finally, we were able to confirm the validity of the proposed method based on simulation results.

  • Path following of the mobile robot is one research hot for the mobile robot navigation. For the control system of the wheeled mobile robot(WMR) being in nonhonolomic system and the complex relations among the control parameters, it is difficult to solve the problem based on traditional mathematics model. In this paper, we presents a simple and effective way of implementing an adaptive following controller based on the PID for mobile robot path following. The method uses a non-linear model of mobile robot kinematics and thus allows an accurate prediction of the future trajectories. The proposed controller has a parallel structure that consists of PID controller with a fixed gain. The control law is constructed on the basis of Lyapunov stability theory. Computer simulation for a differentially driven nonholonomic mobile robot is carried out in the velocity and orientation tracking control of the nonholonomic WMR. The simulation results of wheel type mobile robot platform are given to show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

  • This article presents the kinematic analysis and implementation of an interface and control of two robots-an exoskeleton master robot and a human-like slave robot with two arms. Two robots are designed and built to be used for motion-following tasks. The operator wears the exoskeleton master robot to generate motions, and the slave robot is required to follow after the motion of the master robot. To synchronize the motions of two robots, kinematic analysis is performed to correct the kinematic mismatch between two robots. Hardware implementation of interface and control is done to test motion-following tasks. Experiments are performed to confirm the feasibility of the motion-following tasks by two robots.

  • In this paper, a force control algorithm for edge following task is suggested. Through the contact state modeling between rigid part and end-effector of robot, contact force and contact angle that are essencial parameters to build the control strategies for following movement of end-effector are derived. From these two parameters, we discriminate the every contact state into 8 cases and calculate the new moving position and direction simply. For the experiment. RX90 robot from Staubli with robot language V$^{+}$ is applied and F/T sensor is attached to the wrist of robot with RCC. Finally, 3 edge following experiments including the following of corner point are executed with successful results.s.

  • This paper proposes an effective algorithm for following a wall by an autonomous mobile robot with sonar sensors and infrared sensors in an indoor environment. The proposed method uses deadreckoning to estimate the current position and orientation of a mobile robot. Sonar sensor data are used to estimate shape and position of wall using proposed algorithm. Infrared sensor data are used as assistant when sonar sensor data is uncertain. Simulation results using mobile robot show that the proposed algorithm is proper for the following wall.

  • In this paper, we propose a new technique for path-following of the wheeled mobile robot systems with nonholonomic constraints using a path-observer. We discuss the path-following problems of the nonholonomic mobile robot systems which have two nonsteerable, independently driven wheels with the various initial conditions such as a position, a heading angle, and a velocity. It is shown that the performance of dynamic path-following importantly is affected by the intial conditions. Particularly, if the initial conditions become more distant from the desired path and the desired velocity become faster, the system is shown to have worse performance and small time local stable. To find the controllable and stable control for path-following with various initial configuration, we propose the path-observer which can be used for control of the stable path-following of nonholonomic mobile robot system with the various initial conditions. The proposed scheme exhibits the efficient path-following properties for nonholonomic mobile robot in any intial conditions. The simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method for dynamic path-following tasks with the various initial conditions.

  • In this paper, the wall following navigation algorithm of the mobile robot using a mono vision system is described. The key points of the mobile robot navigation system are effective acquisition of the environmental information and fast recognition of the robot position. Also, from this information, the mobile robot should be appropriately controlled to follow a desired path. For the recognition of the relative position and orientation of the robot to the wall, the features of the corridor structure are extracted using the mono vision system, then the relative position, the offset distance and steering angle of the robot from the wall, is derived for a simple corridor geometry. For the alleviation of the computation burden of the image processing, the Kalman filter is used to reduce search region in the image space for line detection. Next, the robot is controlled by this information to follow the desired path. The wall following control scheme by the PD control scheme is composed of two control parts, the approaching control and the orientation control, and each control is performed by steering and forward-driving motion of the robot. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, the real time navigation experiments are performed. Through the result of the experiments, the effectiveness and flexibility of the suggested algorithm are verified in comparison with a pure encoder-guided mobile robot navigation system.

  • Wall-following control problem for a mobile robot is to move it along a wall at a constant speed and keep a specified distance to the wall. This paper proposes wall-following controllers based on Lyapunov function candidate for a two-wheeled mobile robot (MR) to follow an unknown wall. The mobile robot is considered in terms of kinematic model in Cartesian coordinate system. Two wall-following feedback controllers are designed: full state feedback controller and observer-based controller. To design the former controller, the errors of distance and orientation of the mobile robot to the wall are defined, and the feedback controller based on Lyapunov function candidate is designed to guarantee that the errors converge to zero asymptotically. The latter controller is designed based on Busawon's observer as only the distance error is measured. Additionally, the simulation and experimental results are included to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed controllers.

  • This paper proposes a method of tracking an object for a person-following mobile robot by combining a monocular camera and a laser scanner, where each sensor can supplement the weaknesses of the other sensor. For human-robot interaction, a mobile robot needs to maintain a distance between a moving person and itself. Maintaining distance consists of two parts: object tracking and person-following. Object tracking consists of particle filtering and online learning using shape features which are extracted from an image. A monocular camera easily fails to track a person due to a narrow field-of-view and influence of illumination changes, and has therefore been used together with a laser scanner. After constructing the geometric relation between the differently oriented sensors, the proposed method demonstrates its robustness in tracking and following a person with a success rate of 94.7% in indoor environments with varying lighting conditions and even when a moving object is located between the robot and the person.

  • The aim of this paper is to propose a less conservative stabilization condition for leader-following sampled-data control of wheeled mobile robot (WMR) systems by using a clock-dependent Lyapunov function (CDLF) with looped functionals. In the leader-following WMR system, the state and input of the leader robot are measured by digital devices mounted on the following robot, and they are utilized to construct the sampled-data controller of the following robot. To design the sampled-data controller, a stabilization condition is derived by using the CDLF with looped functionals, and formulated in terms of sum of squares (SOS). The considered Lyapunov function is a polynomial form with respect to the clock related to the transmitted sampling instants. As the degree of the Lyapunov function increases, the stabilization condition becomes less conservative. This ensures that the designed controller is able to stabilize the system with a larger maximum sampling interval. The simulation results are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
