In comparison with ordinary or heavy-weight concrete, light-weight air void concrete has the good aspects in optimizing super tall structure systems for the process of design considering wind load and seismic load by lightening total dead load of buildings and reducing natural resources used. Light-weight air void concrete has excellent properties of heat and sound insulating due to its high amount porosity of air voids. So, it has been used as partition walls and the floor of Ondol which is the traditional Korean floor heating system. Under the condition of which the supply of light-weight aggregates are limited, the development of light-weight concrete using air voids is highly required in the aspects of reduced manufacturing prices and mass production. In this study, we investigated the physical properties and thermal behaviors of specimens that applied different mixing ratios of foaming agent to evaluate the possibility of use in the structural elements. We proposed the estimating equation for compressive strength of each mix having different ratio of foaming agent. We also confirmed that the density of cement matrix is decreased as the mixing amount of foaming agent increase up to 0.6% of foaming agent mixing ratio which was observed by SEM. Based on porosity and compressive strength of control mortar without foaming agent, we built the estimating equations of compressive strength for mortars with foaming agent. The upper limit of use in foaming agent is about 0.6% of the binder amount. Each air void is independent, and size of voids range from 50 to $100{\mu}m$.

We use so many plastic products in everyday. Because polymer materials have a lot of merits including low cost and easiness of forming, they are widely using at many manufacturing industries. Microcellular foaming process appeared at MIT in 1980's to save a quantity of material and increase mechanical properties. The information about the thickness of cavity plays an important role in appling microcellular foaming process to the conventional injection molding process. It is essential to make an effective foam. The goal of this research is to measure the relation between the change of cavity's thickness and foaming magnitude made after inserting a gas. R/t is a conception that indicate proportion between radius and thickness of cavity in mold system. By means of SEM observation of side surface of cavity sample, foaming magnitude of cavity is mold system. By means of SEM observation of side surface of cavity sample, foaming magnitude of polymer in microcellular foaming process is decreasing gradually as the value of R/t is increasing. The proposed foaming magnitude changes data of polymer in relation to mold system can be applied in more extensive injection molding process, such as optimum design of mold for microcellular foaming process.

Microcellular foaming is being researched as a method of maintaining and improving the mechanical characteristics of plastics as well as saving the material costs. This can not only improve the mechanical properties including impact strength of plastic by producing cells with the size of few ${\mu}$m diameters within the plastic, but also can save the material cost of plastic products with the general volumetric expansion of 2 to 10 times. But quite a long time is required for the gas to be absorbed in the plastic. Therefore consistent research should be done to reduce the saturation time of gas into the plastic and this paper provides the method of water microcellular foaming process as one of the methods using the high diffusivity of water. In addition, we can improve impact property of foamed plastic by using this method.
In order to select polymer matrix for MIF (Molded-In Foaming) process, in this study, we investigated rheological properties of commercial polymers, SBC (Styrene-Butadiene Copolymers, K-resin KK38) and SBS (Styrene- Butadiene-Styrene, KTR 101 and KTR 301). In time sweep test, the rheological properties ($G^{\prime}$, $G^{{\prime}{\prime}}$, ${\eta}^*$) of SBS at 155 and $170^{\circ}C$ display almost constant value as a function of time from 0 s to 1800 s. On contrast, the rheological properties of SBS at 185 and $200^{\circ}C$ exponentially increase as a function of time. It could be due to gelation of SBS at high temperature conditions. These increment of rheological properties are not observed in SBC. From LAOS (large amplitude oscillatory shear) test, the nonlinear rheological properties of SBS at 155 and $200^{\circ}C$ after 1800 s are compared. The nonlinear rheological properties at $155^{\circ}C$ show simple strain thinning behavior such as linear homopolymer, however, the nonlinear rheological properties at $200^{\circ}C$ show 2 times strain thinning behavior (Payne effect). It well match with the gelation of SBS at $200^{\circ}C$. From rheological studies, it is confirmed that the proper polymer matrix for MIF process (low rheological properties at initial time and high rheological properties after process) is SBS KTR 301.
To investigate the effects of neutral salts on the foaming properties of sodium caseinate, turbidity, surface tension, absolute viscosity, foaming ability and foam stability of the caseinate solutions(5%, w/v) with added NaF, $Na_2SO_4$, NaCl, $NaNO_3$, and NaSCN at concentrations of 0.1, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 M were examined. NaCl and $NaNO_3$ improved the foaming ability compared to sodium caseinate without salt, and also $Na_2SO_4$ and NaF did the foaming ability at the concentrations of 0.1M and 0.5M, while NaSCN did not improve the foaming ability. For foaming ability optimal concentrations of the salts were 0.5, 1.5, and 1.0 M in $Na_2SO_4$, NaCl, and NaSCN, respectively. Additions of $Na_2SO_4$, NaF and $NaNO_3$ at 0.5 M concentrations improved the foam stability of sodium caseinate by 825%, 615%, and 53% compared to control, while those of NaSCN reduced foam stability.

There are several methods for shaping foams, but the most commonly used methods involve the use of resin mixed with a foaming agent, which is then foamed under high temperature and pressure in the case of compression foaming, or foamed under high temperature without applying pressure in the case of atmospheric foaming. The polymers used for foaming require design and analysis of optimal foaming conditions in order to achieve foaming under ambient pressure. Environmentally friendly bio-based polymers face challenges when it comes to foaming on their own, which has led to ongoing research in blending them with resins capable of traditional foam production. This study investigates changes in the characteristics of bio-based polymer-EVA blend foams based on variations in the content of bio-based polymers and explores the optimal foaming conditions according to crosslinking. The correlation between foaming characteristics and mechanical properties of the foams was examined. Through this research, we gained insights into how the content of bio-based polymers affects the properties of foams containing bio-based polymers and identified differences between ambient pressure and high-pressure foaming processes. Additionally, the feasibility of commercializing bio-based polymer-EVA composite foams was confirmed.
In this study, we investigated for natural rubber foam to replace petrochemical-based neoprene foam. Experiments were conducted on vulcanization system and 2-step foaming process of natural rubber. The vulcanization system were EV(Efficient Vulcanization Cure), Semi-EV(Semi-Efficient Vulcanization Cure) and CV(Conventional Vulcanization Cure). In the 2-step foaming process, first molding temperature was 140℃, times were 15, 20, 25, and 30minutes, and the second molding temperature was 160℃, the times 5, 10, 15, and 20minutes. The cure and viscosity characterization were evaluated by oscillating disc rheometer (ODR) and mooney viscosmeter. Various mechanical characteristics, including hardness, tensile strength, elongation at the point of rupture, and tear strength, were quantified. Subsequently, an assessment of alterations in these mechanical attributes was conducted post-immersion in a NaCl solution. In addition degree of volume change was measured after immersing the NR foam in NaCl solution and the low-temperature permanent compression set was evaluated at 4℃. And expansion ratio and shrinkage ratio of NR foam were evaluated for 28 days. As a result the EV vulcanization system showed the least change in physical properties before and after salt water immersion, and the lowest shrinkage ratio for 28 days. In addition it was confirmed that the 2-step foaming optimum condition differed depending on the appropriate vulcanization condition.
1-octanethiol and vinyl acetate telomers ($R_8S$-nVAc) were synthesized and hydrolyzed with sodium hydroxide subsequently, 1.2-epoxyhexane was then introduced to the telomers. In addition, we prepared cotelomers of multi-alkylated nonionic surfactants with a molecular structure of xRnMA-yVA (x; hydrophobic group, y; hydrophilic group, MA; methacrylic ester, VA; vinyl alcohol, R; and alkyl group) and cross-linked with sodium tetraborate decahydrate. Their active surface properties were investigated by several techniques such as surface tension, foaming property, and emulsification power measurements. The surface tension of $R_8S$-8.8VA decreased without the introduction of 1.2-Epoxy hexane, and the degree of emulsification and foaming abilities of $R_8S$-8.8VA increased without the introduction of 1.2-Epoxy hexane. However, the differences were insignificant. The epoxy groups were attached to a $R_8S$-8.8VA cotelomer with a limited variation of the active surface properties. The surface tension of $1.1R_6MA$-8.8VA decreased after cross-linking subsequently, the degree of emulsification and foaming abilities of $1.1R_6MA$-8.8VA increased after cross-linking. However, there was no clear difference between them. The B-O bonds were attached to a $1.1R_6MA$-8.8VA cotelomer with a limited variation of the active surface properties.

Physical properties of foams depend on the density of foams, Physical properties of base polymers, open ceil contents, and cell structures including the size, size distribution, shape of ceil and the thickness of membrane and strut. The density of foam is affected by raw materials, concentration oi crosslinking agent and blowing agent and process parameters such as processing technique and condition. Ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer(EVA) foam is a crosslinked cellular material. The foaming characteristics and physical properties of EVA foam are affected by decomposition rate of blowing agent. In this study, the decomposition rate of blowing agent and crosslinking rate, foaming characteristics and physical properties of foams were evaluated. The slow decomposition rate of blowing agent results in low density foam, good shock absorption property and uniform cell size distribution compared to the high decomposition rate of blowing agent.
