The effects of mineral admixtures on the bonding properties of cement mortar to polyolefin based synthetic fiber were evaluated. The mineral admixtures consisted of 0%, 5%, 10%, and 15% fly ash, blast furnace slag, and metakaolin in cement. Bond interactions between the cement mortar and the polyolefin based synthetic fiber were determined by Dog-bone bond tests. Bond tests of the polyolefin based synthetic fiber showed an increase in pullout load with the strength of the cement mortar. Also, the interface toughness of polyolefin based synthetic fiber in cement mortar increased as the fly ash, blast furnace slag, and metakaolin contents increased. The microstructure of polyolefin based synthetic fiber surface was examined after the pullout test to analyze the frictional resistant force according to the replacement ratio of fly ash, blast furnace slag, and metakaolin during the pullout process of polyolefin based synthetic fiber in cement mortar. The scratched of polyolefin based synthetic fibers increased with the replacement ratio of fly ash, blast furnace slag, and metakaolin. Also, the interface toughness was enhanced by adhesion forces induced by the fly ash, blast furnace slag, and metakaolin.

Phase change material(PCM) has the capacity to absorb or release energy in heat when the phase changes. This study conducted to investigate the effect of strontium-based PCM on the hydration heat and mechanical properties of mortar with fly ash and blast furnace slag. The amounts of PCM were 1%, 2%, 3%, 4%, and 5% by the cementitious materials weight. The tests about mortar flow, semi-adiabatic temperature rise, compressive and flexural strength tests were carried out for twelve types of mortar mixtures. The test results indicated that the use of PCM was effective to reduce hydration heat and retard hydration of mortar with industrial by-products. In particular, the heat generation rate of mortars with fly ash was lower than that of mortars with blast furnace slag. The compressive strength of mortar with fly ash and blast furnace slag were decreased with increasing PCM ratio.
Supplementary cementitious materials (SCM) such as fly ash, ground granulated blast furnace slag and silica fume are now being extensively used in concrete to control expansion due to alkali-silica reactivity (ASR). However, the replacement level of a single SCM needed to deleterious ASR expansion and cracking may create other problem and concerns. For example, incorporating silica fume at levels greater than 10% by mass of cement may lead to dispersion and workability concerns, while fly ash can lead to poor strength development at early age, The combination of silica fume and fly ash in ternary cementitious system may alleviate this and other concerns, and result in a number of synergistic effects. The aim of the study was to enable evaluation of more realistic suitability of a silica fume-fly ash combination system for ASR resistance based on an in-house modification of ASTM C 1260 test method. The modification can be more closely identified with actual field conditions. In this study three different strengths of NaOH test solution(1N, 0.5N, and 0.25N) were used to measure the expansion characteristics of mortar bar made with a reactive aggregate. The other variable included longer testing period of 28 days instead of a conventional 14 days.

Alkali-activated binder (AAB) is recently being considered as a sustainable alternative to portland cement (PC) due to its low carbon dioxide emission and diversion of industrial wastes and by-products such as fly ash and slag from landfills. In order to comprehend the behavior of AAB, detailed knowledge on relations between microstructure and mechanical properties are important. To address the issue, a new approach to characterize hardened pastes of AAB containing fly ash as well as those containing fly ash and slag was adopted using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectra microanalyses. The volume stoichiometries of the alkali activation reactions were used to estimate the quantities of the sodium aluminosilicate (N-A-S-H) and calcium silicate hydrate (CSH) produced by these reactions. The 3D plots of Si/Al, Na/Al and Ca/Si atom ratios given by the microanalyses were compared with the estimated quantities of CSH(S) to successfully determine the unique chemical compositions of the N-A-S-H and CSH(S) for ten different AAB at three different curing temperatures using a constrained nonlinear least squares optimization formulation by general algebraic modeling system. The results show that the theoretical and experimental quantities of N-A-S-H and CSH(S) were in close agreement with each other. The $R^2$ values were 0.99 for both alkali-activated fly ash and alkali-activated slag binders.

Recently photochemical smog has become a serious urban air pollution. And VOC is the major pollutant for it. With the advance of industrialization and urbanization, MSWI fly ash and sewage sludge and melting slag were generated. It is necessary to de-toxificate ashes, because they contain many toxic constituents and probably lead to contaminate the environment. The objective of this research was to prepare multi-functional brick which is able to remove VOCs in ambient air. The bricks were made of MSWI fly ash, sewage sludge and slag. The benzene adsorption experiment by brick was acted to evaluate its adsorptivity. And also photocatalyst material was coated to enhance its adsorptivity and the endurance on the brick. According to the result, the benzene showed 74~96%. The removal efficiency was increased and the breakpoint time was lengthened by coating a brick.

In the industry, due to the carbon dioxide gas produced during cement production is increasing, research on recycling by-products has been actively conducted. In the industrial by-products, the high calcium fly ash(HCFA) produced by the blast-furnace in the circulating fluidized bed combustion method has a high ratio of CaO and CaSO4. In view of this, the purpose of this is to use high calcium fly ash(HCFA) as a stimulant in blast furnace slag powder and use it as a cement substitute. As a result, it is judged that the substitution ratio of HCFA should be 15% or less. In addition, although durability and strength are relatively lower than of OPC, it is considered that it can be utilized as an environmentally building material.

In this research, we used fly-ash and blast-furnace slag as substitute material of cement and fine aggregate, and we, through experiments, researched and analyzed the features of high-flowable concrete added high efficiency AE water reduction agent. The results are below. 1. Liquefaction generally presented high-slump flow value; on the other hand, partial segregation was observed in case of mixing proportion with 65 cm slump flow and above. This segregation was partially improved in accordance with mixing admixture. 2. Compressive strength according to mixing admixture and increasing mixing ratio of fly-ash were subject to be declined when it was initially cast-in, but its gap was improved when time was fully passed. 3. After mixing blast-furnace slag and fly-ash as substitute material, the result showed that the modulus of elasticity against freezing & melting was improved according to mixing blast-furnace slag and also increased in accordance with increasing pulverulent-body volume. 4. According to increasing the mixing volume of fly-ash, the durability factor was deteriorated because compressive strength became lower as well as air content was decreased when it was initially case-in. 5. The minimum air content to secure durability was 3.7%, for that reason, we had better secure admixture such as air entraining agent when cast-in high-flowable concrete.

Fast infrastructure development boosts the demand for shotcrete. Despite sand and stone being the most common coarse and fine aggregates for shotcrete, excessive exploration of these materials challenges the ecological environment. This study utilized an industrial solid waste, high-titanium heavy slag, blended with steel fibers to form Wet Shotcrete of Steel Fiber-reinforced High-Titanium Heavy Slag (WSSFHTHS). It investigated its workability, shotcrete performance and mechanical properties under different water-to-cement ratios, fly ash content, superplasticizer dosage, and steel fiber content. The tunnel excavation and support were investigated by conducting finite element numerical simulation analysis and was used in 3 tunnel lining pipes in Zhonggouwan tailing pond. The major findings are as follows: (1) The water-to-cement ratio (w/c ratio) significantly impacted the compressive strength of WSSFHTHS. The highest 28-day compressive strength of 60 MPa was achieved when the w/c ratio was 0.38; (2) Adding fly ash improved the workability and shotcrete performance and strength development of WSSFHTHS. The best anti-permeability performance was achieved when the fly ash constituted 15%, with the lowest permeability coefficient of 4.596 × 10-11 cm/s; (3) The optimum superplasticizer dosage for WSSFHTHS is 0.8%. It provided the best workability and shotcrete performance. Excessive dosage resulted in water bleeding and poor aggregate encapsulation, while insufficient dosage decreased flowability and adversely affected shotcrete performance; (4) The dosage of steel fibers significantly impacted the flexural and tensile strength of WSSFHTHS. When the steel fiber dosage was 45 kg/m3, the 28-day flexural and tensile strengths were 8.95 MPa and 6.15 MPa, respectively; (5) By integrating existing shotcrete techniques, the optimal lining thickness was 80 mm for WSSFHTHS per simulation. The results revealed that after using WSSFHTHS, the displacement of the tunnel surrounding the rock significantly improved, with no cracks or hollows, similar to the simulation results.

This research investigates the rheological behavior and the confined water ratio of the cement paste and binder condition in order to predict mix design proportion of the high flowing concrete. The purpose of this study is to determine the optimum replacement ratio of binders including fly ash, and lime stone powder by the cement weight. For this purpose, belite cement, blast furnace slag cement and ordinary portland cement are selected. As test results, the confined water ratio shows the following range ; OPC>blast furnace slag cement>belite cement. Therefore, belite cement is proved very excellent cementitious materials in a view point of the flowability. The optimum replacement ratio of lime stone powder is shown over $30\%$ in case of belite cement and about $10\%$ in case of slag cement type. Also, the optimum replacement ratio of fly ash is shown $30\%$ by the cement weight considering the confined water ratio and deformable coefficient of the paste condition.
