  • This paper deals with the method to calculate the rotor eddy current losses of permanent magnet high-speed machines considering the effects of time/space flux harmonics. The flux harmonics caused by the slot geometry in the stator is calculated from the time variation of the magnetic field distribution obtained by the magneto-static finite element analysis and double Fast Fourier Transform. And, using the analytical approach considering the multiple flux harmonics and the Poynting vector, the rotor losses is evaluated in each rotor composite. Using this method is simple and workable for any kind of stator slot shape for rotor loss analysis.

  • In this paper the CSCM type upwind flux difference splitting Navier-Stokes method has been applied to study the ARL-SL19 supersonic/transonic compressor cascade flow. H-type grid was chosen for its simplicity in applying cyclic tridiagonal matrix algorithm along with conventional slip/no-slip boundary conditions. The thin-layer algebraic model of Baldwin-Lomax was employed for the calculation of turbulent flows. The test case inlet Mach No. was 1.612 and inlet/exit pressure ratio($P_2/P_1$) was 2.15. The results were compared with experimental results from current method were compared well in suction surface with the experiments and other computational results; however, not well in pressure surface. It might be due to the complex flowfields such as shock/boundary layer interaction, turbulence, and flow separation, etc. In the future, a proper turbulence modelling and adaptive grid system will be studied to improve the solution quality.

  • Three inputs of given three magnetic fluxes of an induction motor are calculated. Then, the calculation of magnetic flux for minimum input is repeated using quadratic interpolation method until the convergence criteria are satisfied. The maximum efficiency control is fulfilled with the final magnetic flux for minimum input. Simulation results verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • This paper proposes a rotary magnetic position sensor which has a sinusoidally magnetized permanent magnet with a small number of poles. To make the sinusoidal magnetic flux density distribution from the permanent magnet, a magnetizing future is optimized by the DOE(Design of Experiments) method. The magnetization process is analyzed using the Preisach model and 2 dimensional finite element method. The magnetic flux density distribution from the magnetized permanent magnet is very similar to ideal sine wave. The simulation result of the magnetic flux density distribution is compared with the experimental one. Also the availability of the proposed rotary type magnetic position sensor is confirmed by position calculation technique.

  • The magnetic flux leakage(MFL) type nondestructive testing(NDT) method is widely used to detect corrosion, defects and mechanical deformation of the underground gas pipelines. The object pipeline is magnetically saturated by the magnetic system with permanent magnet and yokes. Hall sensors detect the leakage fields in the region of the defect. The defects are sometimes occurred in group. The accuracy of the detecting signals in this defect cluster become lowered because of the complexity of the defect cluster. In this paper, the effects of the multi -defects are analyzed. The detecting signals are computed by 3-dimensional finite element method and compared with real measurement. The results say that, rather than the size of the defects, the effects of the relative position of the multi-defects are very important on the detecting signals.

  • This paper describes the design method of a magnetic system to maximize the magnetic flux leakage (MFL) in a non-destructive testing (NDT) system. The defect signals in a MFL type NDT system mainly depend on the change of the magnetic leakage flux in the region of a defect. The characteristics of the B-H curves are analysed and a design method to define the operating point on B-H curves for maximum leakage is performed. The computed MFL signal by a nonlinear finite element method is verified by measurement using Hall sensors mounted on the 6 legs PIG, the traveling detector unit in gas pipe, in an 8 inch test tube with defects. The rhombic defects could be successfully identified from the defect signals.

  • This paper presents a method for on-line estimation of rotor time constant of induction motor. The proposed method applies a model reference adaptive system(MRAS) using rotor flux vector. The MRAS consists of two independent observers to estimate the rotor flux vector; one based on voltage equations of rotor flux vector, the other based on current equations of them. The MRAS utilizes concept of auxiliary variables to normalize observer output and decrease high-frequency components of its input. Experimental results verify the validity and usefulness of proposed method

  • This paper is concerned with the design and the construction of a moving magnet type linear DC motor(MM type LDM) for instrumentation. A mathematical model for the design of a LDM is developed and a permeance method is used to calculate the effective flux density in the air gap. The flux distribution in the air gap is analyzed and the width of iron core should be determined in order not to saturate the iron core by caluclating maxmum flux density. The design data culculated by a permeance method are compared with the analyzed results using FEM(MAXWELL 2D). The errors between two results are corrected. The tested LDM is constructed using the corrected design data. The results of experiment for thrust characteristics are compared with simulation.

  • In this paper, Magnetic Flux Leakage(MFL) method is used to detect surface defect in ferromagnetic plate. Surface defects are created on the SM 45C ferromagnetic plate and magnetizing equipment is composed to perform MFL nondestructive testing. The length and width of defect is twice the thickness of ferromagnetic plate, and defects with different depths are made artificially for the experiment. Also, NdFeB magnet in magnetizing equipment is used to make magnetic flux. This paper shows that it is possibile to detect 10% defect and to analyze numerically for any defect using MFL method.

  • Various methods have been proposed to identify the flux position in an interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) without the use of mechanical sensors. To achieve this, a method that uses both the back electromotive force (EMF) and the saliency to identify the flux position in the IPMSM without the injection of high-frequency components at low speeds has been reported. This method was then extended in order to drive the motor with no load to a light load. We propose a combination of these methods with different proportional-integral (PI) controllers for controlling $di_{dest}$/dt and $di_{qest}$/dt. We also introduce compensation values $F_L$ and $F_H$ to reduce the position error when the estimation rule is being selected.
