Novel $CO_2$-soluble 8-hydroxyquinoline (8-HQ) chelating agents were synthesized and evaluated for solubility and metal ion extraction ability in supercritical $CO_2\;(Sc-CO_2)$. Among them, secondary amide-containing 8- HQ derivatives cannot be dispersed well into Sc-$CO_2$, but tertiary amide-containing derivatives can dissolve completely in Sc-$CO_2$ even at low CO2 pressures, perhaps owing to the predominant intermolecular interaction between the chelating agent and the $CO_2$ molecule. Based on 8-HQ chelating agent solubility data, we investigated the extraction of metal ions ($Co^{2+}$, $Cu^{2+}$, $Sr^{2+}$, $Cd^{2+}$, and $Zn^{2+}$) using two highly $CO_2$-soluble 8-HQ derivatives (4d, 4e) in Sc-$CO_2$. The extraction efficiency of tertiary amide-containing 8-HQ ligands, both fluorinated and non-fluorinated forms, was dramatically increased in the presence of diethyl amine (organic base). We suggest that diethyl amine could play an important synergistic role in the stronger metal binding ability of 8-HQ through an in situ deprotonation reaction in Sc-$CO_2$ medium.
New composite membranes were manufactured by impregnating post-sulfonated poly(arylene ether sulfone)s containing perfluorocyclobutane (PFCB) groups into porous polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) films. Two kinds of post-sulfonated poly(arylene ether sulfone)s with two different monomer ratios (sulfonable biphenylene monomer : non-sulfonable sulfonyl monomer = 6 : 4, 4 : 6) were first prepared through three synthetic steps: synthesis of trifluorovinylether-terminated monomers, thermal cycloaddition polymerization and post-sulfonation using chlorosulfonic acid (CSA). The composite membranes were then prepared by adjusting the concentrations (5~20 wt%) of the resulting copolymers impregnated in the PTFE films. The water uptake, ion exchange capacity (IEC) and ion conductivity of the composite membranes were characterized and compared with their unreinforced dense membranes and Nafion. All the synthesized compounds, monomers and polymers were characterized by $^1H$-NMR, $^{19}F$-NMR and FT-IR and the composite membranes were observed with scanning electron micrographs (SEM).
A surfactant is used to assist the effect of cleaning, dispersibility and adhesion during leather manufacturing process. Existing surfactant for that process includes many hydrophilic groups that may cause problem such as stain, bad water resistance and poor durability, etc. It is potential problem to make high-performance property for future leather market. In this study, we have synthesized the fluorinated surfactant of which property decreases surface tension, increases dispersion, cleaning effect and the better chrome absorption by the high bond energy of C-F to complement weakness that the present alkyl derivative surfactants have. Using fluorinated surfactant, we can confirm that dispersion is increased, chrome absorption ratio is augmented with high osmosis and coherence, chrome content in the tanning waste water is reduced, BOD and COD contents are diminished and physical characteristics are improved.

A homeotropic liquid crystal (LC) alignment state on rubbed fluorinated self-assembled monolayers (FSAMs) is described according to alkyl chain length. A simple procedure, gas-phase method, for the preparation of FSAM was used. The average optical transmittance in the visible light range of FSAMs were 76.63% to 78.21%, which were superior to the conventional polyimide layer having a transmittance of 75.89%. In addition, the excellent homeotropic LC alignment characteristics of FSAMs were observed through pretilt angle measurement and polarized optical microscope images. By measuring the contact angles and the surface energies of FSAMs, it was confirmed that pretilt angles of LC molecules increased according to the alkyl chain length. High optical transparency and uniform homeotropic LC alignment characteristics of FSAMs showed the possibility of FSAMs as an LC alignment layers.
Water-repellent coating solutions were synthesized by hydrolysis and polycondensation reactions with water using tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) and chlorotrimethylsilane (CTMS) as precursors. The solutions were coated on a PMMA sheet and thermally cured to prepare non-fluorinated water-repellent coating films. Coating films were characterized by water contact angles, UV-Vis transmittance and surface morphology. The contact angle of coating films prepared by varying the molar ratio of CTMS/TEOS to 0.6~1.0 exhibited a maximum value of $107^{\circ}$ when the CTMS/TEOS molar ratio was 0.8. The coating films showed a high transmittance over the visible range up to 90% when the CTMS/TEOS molar ratios were 0.6~0.8. However, when the molar ratios of CTMS/TEOS were 0.9~1.0, the transmittance of coating films was lower than 70% due to an uneven shape of the rough surface.

In this study, the carbon block was prepared using the fluorinated coke and binder pitch by molding compression to increase its density. After fluorination, it is confirmed that the fluorine element on the coke surface was introduced up to 24.14 at% using XPS analysis. The wettability between the fluorinated coke and binder pitch was evaluated according to the reaction temperature. From the result of contact-angle tests, it can be found that the wettability was improved up to 64.7% as more fluorine atoms were introduced on the surface of cokes. Also, the density of the carbon block with the highest amount of fluorine increased with 6.8% compared to that of using the carbon block prepared by the untreated cokes.
We demonstrated roll-to-roll microcontact printed (mCP) microlens array (MLA) to enhance the light extraction of organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs). The commercially provided microlens array is used as a template for polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) roll stamp. The fluorinated film is formed on the PDMS roll stamp from fluorinated ink with low boiling point and printed onto the bottom side of the organic light emitting diode without high pressure and high thermal treatment. With optimized concentration of ink, the pattern which is almost identical to that of the template MLA was successfully printed. Due to the structure and low optical absorbance of microcontact printed MLA, the external quantum efficiency of OLED was improved by about 18%.

In this paper, we demonstrated the orientation characteristics of liquid crystals using UV-treated FSAM as alignment layer. Moreover we confirmed the FSAM properties before and after UV treatment on indium tin oxide (ITO) glass substrates using physicochemical analysis. The hydrophobic property of the FSAM surface is change to hydrophilic through UV treatment. After UV treatment the LC molecules also were uniformly and horizontally aligned on the FSAM surfaces and the pretilt angle was obviously changed 90° degrees to 0° degrees. EO characteristic of TN cell which was fabricated with UV-treated FSAM was faster response time compare to conventional PI layer. The FSAM before and after UV treatment has a superior application potential as the LC alignment layer for LCD, potentially replacing the conventional polyimide layer.

Utilization of high-voltage electrolyte additive(s) at a small fraction is a cost-effective strategy for a good solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) formation and performance improvement of a lithium-rich layered oxide-based high-energy lithium-ion cell by avoiding the occurrence of metal-dissolution that is one of the failure modes. To mitigate metal-dissolution, we explored fluorinated dual-additives of fluoroethylene carbonate (FEC) and di(2,2,2-trifluoroethyl)carbonate (DFDEC) for building-up of a good SEI in a 4.7 V full-cell that consists of high-capacity silicon-graphite composite (15 wt% Si/C/CF/C-graphite) anode and Li1.13Mn0.463Ni0.203Co0.203O2 (LMNC) cathode. The full-cell including optimum fractions of dual-additives shows increased capacity to 228 mAhg-1 at 0.2C and improved performance from the one in the base electrolyte. Surface analysis results find that the SEI stabilization of LMNC cathode induced by dual-additives leads to a suppression of soluble Mn2+-O formation at cathode surface, mitigating metal-dissolution event and crack formation as well as structural degradation. The SEI and structure of Si/C/CF/C-graphite anode is also stabilized by the effects of dual-additives, contributing to performance improvement. The data give insight into a basic understanding of cathode-electrolyte and anode-electrolyte interfacial processes and cathode-anode interaction that are critical factors affecting full-cell performance.

Step index POFs(SIPOF) are composed of core polymers and cladding polymers. Poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) and polystyrene (PS) are normally used as core materials. The refractive index of cladding materials should be less than 2-5 % that of the core material. PMMA and fluorinated polymers are used as cladding materials on PS and PMMA core, respectively$^1$. Cladding materials which have lower refractive index than core materials reflect light at less than critical angle, which is transmitted down the core. (omitted)
