  • The power output of the stirling engine is influenced by the regenerator effectiveness. The regenerator effectiveness is influenced by heat transfer and flow friction loss of the regenerator matrix. In this paper, in order to provide basic data for the design of the regenerator matrix, characteristics of working fluid velocities were investigated by a packed method of matrix in the oscillating flow as the same condition of operation in a Stirling engine. As matrices, two different wire screens were used. The results are summarized as follows; 1. When a regenerator is not filled with any wire screen, working fluid velocity of the oscillating flow shows 1.3 times faster than that of one directional flow. 2. When a regenerator is filled with the wire screen of No.50, working fluid velocity of the oscillating flow reveals 2.5 times faster than that of one directional flow. 3. When a regenerator is filled with the wire screen of No. 100, working fluid velocity of the oscillating flow shows 2 times faster than that of one directional flow, regardless of the number of packed wire screens. 4. Working fluid velocity is decreased wire the increase in number of meshes and packed wire screens.

  • The paper studies the influence of the fluid flow velocity and flow direction in the initial state on the dispersion of the axisymmetric waves propagating in the inhomogeneously pre-stressed hollow cylinder containing this fluid. The corresponding eigenvalue problem is formulated within the scope of the three-dimensional linearized theory of elastic waves in bodies with initial stresses, and with linearized Euler equations for the inviscid compressible fluid. The discrete-analytical solution method is employed, and analytical expressions of the sought values are derived from the solution to the corresponding field equations by employing the discrete-analytical method. The dispersion equation is obtained using these expressions and boundary and related compatibility conditions. Numerical results related to the action of the fluid flow velocity and flow direction on the influence of the inhomogeneous initial stresses on the dispersion curves in the zeroth and first modes are presented and discussed. As a result of the analyses of the numerical results, it is established how the fluid flow velocity and flow direction act on the magnitude of the influence of the initial inhomogeneous stresses on the wave propagation velocity in the cylinder containing the fluid.

  • The effects of longitudinal velocity dusty fluid flow in a weak magnetic field are investigated in this paper. An external uniform magnetic field parallel to the flow of dusty fluid influences the flow of dusty fluid. Besides that, the problem under investigation is completely defined in terms of identifying parameters such as longitudinal velocity (u), Hartmann number (M), dust particle interactions β, stock resistance γ, Reynolds number (Re) and magnetic Reynolds number (Rm). While using suitable transformations of resemblance, The governing partial differential equations are transformed into a system of ordinary differential equations. The Hankel Transformation is used to solve these equations numerically. The effects of representing parameters on the fluid phase and particle phase velocity flow are investigated in this analysis. The magnitude of the fluid particle is reduced significantly. The result indicates the magnitude of the particle reduced significantly. Although some of our numerical solutions agree with some of the available results in the literature review, other results differs because of the effect of the introduced magnetic field.

  • A novel method for simultaneously measuring the fluid velocity and the large particle velocity in a particle-containing fluid flow is developed in this study. In this method, the fluid velocity and the large particle velocity are measured by PIV and PTV, respectively. The PIV and PTV images are obtained from the same flow images. Since a PIV result represents the average displacement of all particles in an interrogation area, it will include an error caused by the relative displacement between the large particles and the fluid. In order to reduce the false influence of large particles on the PIV calculation, the mean brightness of small PIV particle images is substituted to the locations of large particles in the PIV images. The simulation results showed that the new method significantly reduces the PIV error caused by the large particles even at the case where the large particles occupy area fraction as large as $20\%$ of the full image.

  • In this paper the vibration system is consisted of a rotating cantilever pipe conveying fluid and tip mass. The equation of motion is derived by using the Lagrange's equation. The system of pipe conveying fluid becomes unstable by flutter. Therefore, the influence of a rotating angular velocity, mass ratio, the velocity of fluid flow and tip mass on the stability of a cantilever pipe by the numerical method are studied. The critical flow velocity for flutter is proportional to the angular velocity and tip mass of the cantilever pipe. Also, the critical flow velocity and stability maps of the pipe system are obtained by changing the mass ratios.

  • This study analyzes the velocity and pressure incurred by protruding shapes installed within the inlet part of a pressurized membrane module during operation to determine the fluid flow distribution. In this paper, to find the flow distribution within a module, it investigates the velocity and pressure values at cross-sectional and outlet planes, and 9 sections classified on outlet plane using computational fluid dynamics. From the Reynolds number (Re), the fluid flow was estimated to be turbulent when the Re exceeded 4,000. In the vertical cross-sectional plane, shape 4 and 6 (round-type protrusion) showed the relatively high velocity of 0.535 m/s and 0.558 m/s, respectively, indicating a uniform flow distribution. From the velocity and pressure at the outlet, shape 4 also displayed a relatively uniform fluid velocity and pressure, indicating that fluid from the inlet rapidly and uniformly reached the outlet, however, from detailed data of velocity, pressure and flowrate obtained from 9 sections at the outlet, shape 6 revealed the low standard deviations for each section. Therefore, shape 6 was deemed to induce the ideal flow, since it maintained a uniform pressure, velocity and flowrate distribution.

  • Nonlinear vibration and instability of cylindrical shell conveying fluid-nanoparticles mixture flow are studied in this article. The surrounding elastic medium is modeled by Pasternak foundation. Mixture rule is used for obtaining the effective viscosity and density of the fluid-nanoparticles mixture flow. The material properties of the elastic medium and cylindrical shell are assumed temperature-dependent. Employing first order shear deformation theory (FSDT), the motion equations are derived using energy method and Hamilton's principal. Differential quadrature method (DQM) is used for obtaining the frequency and critical fluid velocity. The effects of different parameters such as volume percent of nanoparticles, boundary conditions, geometrical parameters of cylindrical shell, temperature change, elastic foundation and fluid velocity are shown on the frequency and critical fluid velocity of the structure. Results show that with increasing volume percent of nanoparticles in the fluid, the frequency and critical fluid velocity will be increases.

  • Fluid flow in a rectangular duct with $90^{\circ}$ mitered elbow is measured by 5W laser doppler velocity meter. The fluid flow is also computed by commercial software of STAR-CD for comparison between measured and computed velocity profiles in the duct. Reynolds numbers for the comparison are 1,608 and 11,751 based on mean velocity and hydraulic diameter of the duct. First, the fluid flow of Reynolds number equal to 1,608 is predicted by assumptions of both laminar and turbulent models. But, even though the Reynolds number is less than 2,300~3,000, the computation by turbulent model is closed to the experimental data than that by laminar model. Second, the computation for Reynolds number of 11,751 by turbulent model also predicted the experimental data satisfactorily.

  • Experiments have been performed to investigate fluid-elastic instability of tube bundles, subjected to twophase cross flow. Fluid-elastic is the most important vibration excitation mechanism for heat exchanger tube bundles subjected to the cross flow. The test section consists of cantilevered flexible cylinder(s) and rigid cylinders of normal square array. From a practical design point of view, fluid-elastic instability may be expressed simply in terms of dimensionless flow velocity and dimensionless mass-damping parameter. For dynamic instability of cylinder rows, added mass, damping and the threshold flow velocity are evaluated. The Fluid-elastic instability coefficient is calculated and then compared to existing results given for tube bundles in normal square array.
