Flowrate characteristics and application of screw pump (스크류펌프의 유량특성과 적용)

  • The main purpose of this study is to get flowrate coefficient 'q' and to study characteristics of flowrate of screw pump. This study is based on Muskin's formula and depends on the computer simulation. The results of study are as follows. 1. Flowrate coefficient will reduce according to increase of inclination. The larger the pitch ratio is and the smaller the diameter ratio is, the more coefficient reduces. 2. As a rule, the coefficient increases according to reduction of the diameter ratio, but the coefficient tends to reduce when the ratio is less than 0.45. So, in actual application, it is recommended that the ratio should be above 0.45. 3. If the pitch ratio increases, the coefficient increases in case of small inclination and decreases in case of large inclination. 4. The coefficient increases according to number of windings. Especially, singles winding is not used in actual application because it has too small coefficient. 5. The coefficient decreases when the influent water level falls. Flowrate is almost zero when the water level is below $40\%$ of Filling Points.

A Study on the Measurement Uncertainty of Flowmeter Calibrator (유량계 교정장치의 측정불확도에 관한 연구)

  • The standard uncertainty of flowrate measurement is obtained by combining that of independent variables. Gravimetric and volumetric method were applied to determine the flowrate and the standard uncertainties of flowrate measurement by both methods were evaluated in accordance with the procedure recommended by International Organization for Standardization. The combined standard uncertainties of determining the flowrate were estimated from the sensitivity coefficient and the standard uncertainty of independent variables. For practical application, the methods for evaluating and expressing uncertainty in flow measurement were discussed. It was found that the uncertainties of the weighing and time measurement in gravimetric method, the volume and time measurement in volumetric method have dominant influence on that of flowrate measurement. With the quantitative analysis of the sensitivity coefficient, the contribution of the each variable uncertainty to the combined standard uncertainty of flowrate measurement is shown clearly.

Oxygen Transfer Characteristics & Pure Oxygen Application Study on Circulation Flow Rate of the JLB (Jet Loop Bioreactor) (Jet 폭기 시스템의 순환유량에 따른 산소전달 특성 및 순산소 적용성 검토)

  • In this study, in order to apply the air and pure oxygen in the Jet Loop Reactor (JLB) in which the oxygen transfer rate is high, differentiate the operation mode according to each air flowrate and liquid flowrate and investigate the oxygen transfer characteristic, an experiment was carried out. The oxygen concentration with the air flowrate ($Q_g$) and liquid flowrate ($Q_L$) was identical but the oxygen transfer coefficient ($K_L{\cdot}a$) is linear depending on degree of two factors. The width of an increase is small in $0.1min^{-1}$ when the air flowrate is 0.2 L/min with increasing the liquid flowrate. Whereas, the increment was exposed to be very high for $1.5min^{-1}$ when the air flowrate was 5 L/min. In the experiments using the pure oxygen, it was 30 mg/L of oxygen concentration finally and it was 3.5 times than using the air. But the time reached the saturated concentration was similar to using the air, and $K_L{\cdot}a$ was similar to using the air too. Analysis between two independent variable and oxygen transfer of the correlation is the same model like $K_L{\cdot}a={0.0161Q_L}^{1.5371}{Q_g}^{0.5433}$ using with coefficient non linear regression analysis. It was resulted that the liquid flowrate were approximately three times than air flowrate on effect to oxygen transfer rate.

Characteristics of Pollution Loads from the Combined Sewer during Dry Season (무강우시 합류식 하수관거의 오염부하 특성)

  • We have examined the pollutant load of combined sewer in dry days. Two monitoring sites (C-1, C-2) were equipped with an flowmeter. Monitoring was conducted from September 2004 to April 2006 for 20 months during dry days. Flowrate and concentration of pollutants are lowest from 3 to 6 o'clock, and it is high at 9, 12 and 21 o'clock. Most of organic matters exist in the dissolved state. The results show that pollution loads in C-2 area were 4.5-7.2 times higher than in C-1. Pollutant loads were high on Saturdays. Pollutant loads (kg/ha/day) of C-2 were 1.1-3.1 times higher those of C-1. However there was no significant difference in winter. Analysis of correlation coefficient of water quality parameter indicates that besides of flowrate all items in C-1 site have tight relationship respectively (p<0.01). In C-2 site, correlation coefficient of TP-SS, TP-TN, TP-flowrate, BOD-flowrate, BOD-SS and TN-TP are statistically significant (p<0.01).

  • This study is performed to investigate heat transfer characteristics for thermal performance of fin-and-tube sensible heat exchangers under the low air flowrate according to fin geometry combination and coolant flowrate control. Fins and tubes of samples were separated between front row and rear row. Experiment results are plotted heat transfer rate of each row, heat transfer coefficient and sensible heat ratio against water flowrate control of each row. It is observed that thermal performance can be enhanced by fin geometry combination and water flowrate control of each row under the low air flowrate.

Experimental Study on the Characteristics of Flowrate for the Intake System using the Filter Block (필터 블록을 이용한 하천용수 취수시스템의 유량특성에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • The river water intake system composed of the filter block, without installation of weirs in a channel, was proposed. To apply it to rivers, analysis of hydraulic characteristics is needed. In this study, the hydraulic experiment on the characteristics of flowrate passing through the river water intake system was carried out. The filter block was produced using riprap and stainless steel bead at the channel bottom. The experiment was carried out under various flow conditions and the flowrate passing through the intake system was measured. As the water depth approaching the intake system became deeper, the flowrate diverting to the intake system increased. As the Froude number increased, the flowrate diverting to the intake system decreased. The same trend was shown regardless of the characteristics of a filter block in the intake system. A constant discharge coefficient was shown regardless of the Froude number but it changed according to the size of a riprap and a stainless steel bead in the filter block. It was found that the discharge coefficient increases with the 0.6 power of the material size.

Evaluation of the Turbulence Models on the Aerodynamic Performance of Three-Dimensional Small-Size Axial Fan (3차원 소형축류홴의 공력특성에 대한 난류모델평가)

  • The steady-state, incompressible and three-dimensional numerical analysis was carried out to evaluate turbulent models on the aerodynamic performance of a small-size axial fan(SSAF). The prediction performance on the static pressure of all turbulent models is going downhill at the high static pressure and low flowrate region, but has improved at the axial flow region. In consequence, all turbulent models predict the static pressure coefficient with an error performance less than about 4% after the region of the flowrate coefficient of about 0.14. Especially, the turbulent model of SST $k-{\omega}$ shows the best prediction performance equivalent to an error performance less than about 2% on the static pressure.

  • The lock-up position of the floating ring seal affects the leakage flowrate and the stability. And it is changed depending on the operating and geometry condition. In this paper, the leakage flowrate and stability with change of the height and length were investigated by theoretical analysis and experiment. The parameter of the height and length is expressed to the b and L. The decreasing of the b resulted in the increasing of equivalent whirl frequency ratio in the experimental result at the low speed and high pressure not such as theoretical analysis. As the L increased the leakage flowrate decreased and stiffness and direct damping coefficient increased in the experimental result. That was similar to the theoretical analysis.

  • The discharge coefficient in segmental wedge having ninety degrees vertex angle for the five kinds of opening ratio with differential pressure taps located at both upstream and downstream of one diameter of pipe was measured main purpose of this work is placed on developing the proper form of an equation for the discharge coefficient of a segmental wedge used as a primary element of flow metering devices, and from thata six-term equation which can express the variability of opening ratios was developed. The same assumption and hypotheses were used and tested for all procedures as conventional differential producers; however, the range of the opening ratio over this work is more expanded than previous studies. The opening ratios of segmental wedge, namely 0.3, 0.4, 0.5, 0.6 and 0.7 were investigated the Reynolds number based on the spool inside diameter ranges from 12,000 to 380,000, the resulting equation for the discharge coefficient is relatively simple; it contains only one variable-opening ratio because the characteristic of discharge coefficient of segmental wedge has little connection with the Reynolds number as shown by previous studies.

  • The effects of intake port eccentricity on the characteristics of in-cylinder swirl ratio in a 4-valve diesel engine having the two intake ports; one is a helical intake port and the other is a tangential intake port were investigated by using the ISM(impulse swirl meter) in steady flow test rig. Swirl ratio($R_s$) and mean flow coefficient($C_{f(mean)}$) with valve eccentricity ratio($N_y$) and axial distance(Z/B) were measured. As the results from this experiment, the characteristics of in-cylinder swirl ratio formed by a 4-valve cylinder head were largely affected by intake port eccentricity. There is a difference in the mass flowrate through the two intake ports, and the mass flowrate through the tangential intake port is 19% more than that of the helical intake port. Therefore, we could know that the effects of the mass flowrate ratio through each intake port besides intake port shape should be conidered.
