Particle trajectory visualization using laser sheet was performed to investigate the corona wind flow interactions in the one-wire and two-wire type electrostatic precipitators. The corona wind generated by corona discharge was not negligible, and strong flow interactions took place owing to the induced circulatory cells. In the case of one-wire type, as the applied voltage was increased and the cross-section mean velocity was decreased, the effect of corona wind became active. In the case of two-wire type, if upstream discharge voltage was relatively higher than downstream discharge voltage, the effect of upstream corona wind was reduced.
A physically-based soil-water erosion model with simple hydrology and Rose & Hairsine's erosion concept is described, and was implemented in the form of computer program. The model derived from the concept of stream power(Bagnold, 1977) considers settling velocity characteristics of the soil and distinguishes between the processes of entrainment and re-entrainment. It deals separately with rill flow and sheet flow, handles vegetation in terms of soil contact cover, and has the ability to simulate soil movement on nonuniform slopes. The model predicted sediment concentrations reasonably with the results of Mclsaac et al. (1990). It showed a capability to quantitatively predict the movement of soil on uniform and nonuniform slopes. Among the model parameters, soil depositability $({\phi})$ was the most sensitive from the sensitivity analysis.
An experimental investigation has been conducted to study the spray and combustion characteristics using the air-assisted twin fluid atomizer. Axial mean and fluctuating velocity components as well as drop-size distributions in non-reaction spray were measured with a nonintrusive phase doppler technique. Droplet number density distributions were also visualized using high speed CCD camera. Locations of spray and flame boundaries are obtained by direct photographic method. It is confirmed that at the fixed fuel flow rate, the increase of the atomizing air flow causes improvements on both spray and combustion characteristics under stable flame conditions. Internal group combustion modes where flame is located inside the spray boundary are observed to exist in the upstream region of higher droplet number density.
The flow structure and heat transfer characteristics of a turbulent buoyant jet were investigated experimentally. The instantaneous temperature and velocity fields in the near field were measured using a two-frame PIV and PLIF techniques. A thin light sheet illuminated a two-dimensional cross section of the buoyant jet in which Rhodamine B was added as a fluorescent dye. The intensity variations of LIF signal from Rhodamine B molecules scattered by the laser light were captured by a CCD camera after passing an optical filter. By ensemble averaging the instantaneous temperature and velocity fields, the mean temperature and velocity fields as well as the spatial distributions of turbulent statistics were obtained. The results show the flow structure and convective heat transfer of the developing shear layer in the near field.
Unsteady sheet cavitation on a three-dimensional twisted hydrofoil was studied using an unsteady Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations solver based on a cell-centered finite volume method. As a verification test of the computational method. non-cavitating and cavitating flow over a modified NACA66 foil section was simulated and validated against existing experimental data. The numerical uncertainties of forces and pressure were evaluated for three levels of mesh resolution. The computed pressure on the foil and the cavity shedding behavior were validated by comparing with existing experimental data. The cavity shedding dynamics by re-entrant jets from the end and sides of the cavity were investigated.
This paper presents the experimental results of a study undertaken to develop an electrostatic spray system for a combustion application. The characteristics of the liquid atomization and the droplet dispersion in the electrostatic spray of twin fluids were investigated by the optical measurement techniques. The processes associated with the break-up of charged jets were also observed using the laser sheet visualization. The diameter and velocity of droplets were simultaneously measured using the phase Doppler measurement technique. The electrostatic atomization of the liquid fuel depended primarily on the charging voltage and the flow rate, but the dispersion of droplets depended significantly on the aerodynamic flow. Aerodynamic influences on the liquid atomization decreased with an increase of the charging voltage. Consequently, the liquid atomization and the droplet dispersion could be independently controlled using the electrostatic and aerodynamic mechanisms.
Superplastic forming processes by characteristic of low flow stress and high elongation have advantages to reducing on production cost and weight because of the product of complex form could be made in one part. However superplastically termed part has a characteristic of non-uniform thickness distribution along forming direction. Especially. since the thickness distribution affects on mechanical properties of product. the uniform thickness is very important. There are two solution procedure of implicit and explicit procedure to analyze the superplastic forming. In this study to analyze the thickness distribution two kinds of commercial programs of DEFORM and PAM-STAMP which implicit and explicit code are used respectly. The results from the two Programs were compared with eath other As a result implicit code were more suitable than explicit code for superplastic forming analysis.
