  • In general, domestic streams and rivers are composed of alluvial rivers consisting of sand and gravel beds. These rivers can cause erosion and riverbed changes due to sudden changes in flow rates, such as floods, torrential rains, and heavy rains. In particular, there are various types of erosion, such as contraction erosion caused by changes in river shape, or local erosion occurring around obstacles such as piers, abutments or embankments. In addition, river changes can occur in various forms, such as static or dynamic periods, due to limitations such as flow rate, velocity, and shear stress. This study focused on the erosions of embankments directly related to human casualties among various river structures, and evaluated limit velocities and critical shear stress in order to identify changes in strength of natural materials by identifying the characteristics of natural hoan materials and resistance to erosions. In particular, the limitations of materials according to the type of materials in the river, characteristics of particles, and size of particles were studied using Soil loss, which is a change in the volume of the revetment material, and it is intended to be used as basic data for river design and restoration.

  • In this paper, a numerical study is carried out for super-pipe, flat plate and axisymmetric body flows to investigate a validity of using wall function and high $y_1^+$ in calculation of high Reynolds number flow. The velocity profiles in boundary layer agree well with the law of the wall. And it is found that the range of $y^+$which validated the logarithmic law of the wall grows with increasing Reynolds number. From the result, an equation is suggested that can be used to estimate a maximum $y^+$ value of validity of the log law. And the slope(1/$\kappa$) of the log region of the numerical result is larger than that of experimental data. On the other hand, as $y_1^+$ is increasing, both the friction and the pressure resistances tend to increase finely. When using $y_1^+$ value beyond the range of log law, the surface shear stress shows a significant error and the pressure resistance increases rapidly. However, when using $y_1^+$ value in the range, the computational result is reasonable. From this study, the use of the wall function with high value of $y_1^+$ can be justified for a full scale Reynolds number ship flow.

  • Viscous flow around actual ship is calculated by an use of RANS equations. The propriety of this computing method, usefulness to hull form design and the scale effect which is the effect of viscous flow depending on the scale of ship model are investigated. Reynolds stress is modelled by using k-${\varepsilon}$ turbulence model and the law of wall is applied near the body. Body fitted coordinates are introduced for the treatment of the arbitrary 3-dimensional shape of the ship hull form. The transformed equations in the computational domain are numerically solved by an employment of FVM. In the calculation of pressure, SIMPLE method is adopted and the solution of the discretized equation is obtained by the line-by-line method with the use of TDMA The calculations of two ships, 4410 TEU container carrier and 50,000 DWT class bulk carrier, are performed at model and actual ship scale. The results are compared and discussed with the model test results which are viscous resistance, nominal wake distribution at propeller plane and limiting streamline on the hull surface. They describe the effect of stem form and the scale effect very well. In particular, the calculated nominal wake distribution and limiting streamline are agreed qualitatively with the experiments and the viscous resistance values are estimated within ${\pm}5%$ difference from the resistance tests.

  • Objectives : Many cancers acquired resistance to chemotherapy, thus limiting its anticancer efficacy. It is known that Glutathione (GSH) is related to the development of drug resistance. The expression of GSH synthesizing glutamylcysteine ligase (GCL) was controlled by nuclear factor-E2-related factor(Nrf2). Previous studies showed that pharmacological depletion of GSH results in ROS increase, apoptotic response, and sensitization to oxidizing stimuli. In the current study, we examined Saussurea Lappa (SL) have the inhibitory effect on Nrf2 activity using human lung cancer A549 cells overexpressing Nrf2. Methods : Cell viability of A549 cells on SL treatment was determined by MTT assay. To detect the apeptosis in SL-treated A549 cells, sub-G1 population was measured by flow cytometry analysis (FACS). The level ROS was determined by FACS and fluorescence microscopy. To investigate whether SL have effect the suppression on Nrf2, we performed western blotting analysis. The GSH content was measured since GSH plays an important role in response to oxidative stress and was regulated by Nrf2. Results : A549 cells treated with an SL extract showed a substantial decrease in cell viability, along with a concomitant increase in apoptosis compared to untreated cells. Treatment of the SL extract led to increased Reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and a suppression of Nrf2. In addition, the antioxidant NAC attenuated SL-induced ROS generation, Nrf2 inhibition, and apoptosis. Taken together, these data show that the SL extract induced the production of ROS, and the inhibition of Nrf2, consequently resulting in A549 cell death. Conclusions : These results suggest that SL might be an effective agent to enhance anticancer drug sensitivity via Nrf2 inhibition.

  • With the industrial acceleration in a lot of countries of the world, the demand for anti-corrosion and anti-abrasion material increases continuously. Particularly, stainless steel with the fine surface and excellent corrosion resistance is widely used in various industrial fields including ship, offshore structures tidal power plant, and etc. In marine environment, however, it is easy to generate by the corrosion damage by $Cl^-$ ion and cavitation damage due to high rotation speed on stainless steel. Therefore, in this research, the cavitation erosion-corrosion test (Hybrid test) was performed for 304 stainless steel specimen used in the high flow rate seawater environment. And the cavitation damage behavior in the corrosive environment was analyzed overall. The high hardness was shown due to the formation of compressive residual stress by the water cavitation peening effect in cavitation condition. However, high current density in the potentiodynamic polarization experiment presented with the breakdown of the passive film caused by physical impact. Therefore, both electrochemical characteristics and mechanical properties must be taken into account to improve the cavitation resistance in seawater.

  • CFT(Concrete Filled Steel Tube) is a structure of circular or squared of steel column filled with concrete. The steel tube holds the concrete inside and that makes this structure to perform superior features on stiffness, proof stress, transformation, fire resistance and construction itself. In this study, by over the 800kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ of high strength concrete for CFT column, research has been done on the basic property of matter such as fluidity, resistance on segregation, compressive strength, setting icons of the concrete filled in the steel tube under conditions of standard weather. Physical properties of concrete for CFT that Concrete with silica fume, fly ash of air entraining and high-range water reducing agent, that used to CFT column research purpose to find the most ideal composition, which is achieved by the investigation in the concrete's property of matter like ability of Slump, Slump Flow, Air content, Bleeding, and Settlement. For this study, experiments which are bused on obtained the result through physical test are practiced, with all of the experiment, specimens only for control are produced in each method of curing and analyzed to relations with core strength in mock-up test. In mock-up test, the research is studied compactability of concrete filled in tube and degree of hydration hysteresis, as a basic reference for applying to field of CFT column which is used over 800kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ high strength concrete.

  • The characteristics and good corrosion resistance at room and elevated temperatures led to increasing application of Ti-alloys such as aircraft, jet engine, turbine wheels. In forging of Ti-alloy at high temperature, die chilling and die speed should be carefully controlled because the flow stress of Ti-alloy is sensitive to temperature, strain and strain-rate. In this study, the forging of turbine disk was numerically simulated by the finite element method for hot-die forging process and isothermal forging process, respectively. The effects of the temperature changes, the die speed and the friction factor were examined. Also, local variation of process parameters, such as temperature, strain and strain-rate were traced during the simulation. It was shown that the isothermal forging with low friction condition produced defect-free disk under low forging load. Consequently, the simulational information will help industrial workers develope the forging of Ti-alloys including 'preform design' and 'processing condition design'. It is also expected that the simulation method can be used in CAE of near net-shape forging.

  • Continuous deep girders which transmit the gravity load from the upper wall to the lower columns have frequently long end shear spans between the boundary of the upper wall and the face of the lower column. This paper presents the results of tests and analyses performed on three 1:2.5 scale specimens with long end shear spans, (the ratios of shear-span/total depth: 1.8 < a/h < 2.5): one designed by the conventional approach using the beam theory and two by the strut-and-tie approach. The conclusions are as follows: (1) the yielding strength of the continuous RC deep girders is controlled by the tensile yielding of the bottom longitudinal reinforcements, being much larger than the nominal strength predicted by using the section analysis of the girder section only or using the strut-and-tie model based on elastic-analysis stress distribution. (2) The ultimate strengths are 22% to 26% larger than the yielding strength. This additional strength derives from the strain hardening of yielded reinforcements and the shear resistance due to continuity with the adjacent span. (3) The pattern of shear force flow and failure mode in shear zone varies depending on the amount of vertical shear reinforcement. And (4) it is necessary to take into account the existence of the upper wall in the analysis and design of the deep continuous transfer girders that support the upper wall with a long end shear span.

  • The hardness of cold-forged products is in close relationship with its effective strain. This study presented the estimating method of hardness for cold-forged SKH9 products without hardness tests in view of resistance to plastic deformation using finite element code, DEFORM$^{TM}$. The flow stress equation obtained from the compression test was only used as a basic data to estimate the relationship between effective strain and hardness. In addition, this new estimating method was applied to the cold-forged product which was widely used in industrial field to show the feasibility. As a result, the predicted hardness numbers through FE simulation showed good agreement with the measured hardness numbers. It is possible to estimate the hardness not by hardness tests, but by only computer simulations for the deformed products. Also, effective strain values were possibly estimated by measuring hardness numbers, and vice versa.

  • We have proposed a new shallow trench isolation (STI) process using flowable oxide (F-oxide) chemical vapor deposition (CVD) for DRAM application and it was successfully developed. The combination of F-oxide CVD and HDP CVD is thought to be the superior STI gap-filling process for next generation DRAM fabrication because F-oxide not only improves STI gap-filling capability, but also the reduced local stress by F-oxide in narrow trenches leads to decrease in junction leakage and gate induced drain leakage (GIDL) current. Finally, this process increased data retention time of DRAM compared to HDP STI. However, a serious failure occurred by symphonizing its structural dependency of deposited thickness with poor resistance against HF chemicals. It could be suppressed by reducing the flow time during F-oxide deposition. It was investigated collectively in terms of device yield. In conclusion, the combination of F-oxide and HDP oxide is the very promising technology for STI gap filling process of sub-100nm DRAM technology.
