  • The partitioning level of a catchment becomes an issue if the calculated results from different levels show the same performance regardless of the levels. This study aims to identify the proper processing level of spatial resolution for the SWMM model application in an urban area. Using GIS overlaying technique, the division of subcatchments as a hydrologic similarity unit (HSU) is achieved with a comprehensive consideration of surface slope conditions, flow directions of storm sewers, and current land cover situation. Three surface-sewer alternatives are made on the basis of three different levels of surface divisions as well as the number of sewer connections and used as runoff simulation fields for the application of SWMM. As the result, it is found that the effect of a spatial resolution on the surface runoff results is not significant. On the other hand, the accumulated pollution load from an unit subcatchment, which is built by aggregation of several unit subcatchments consisting of various land cover conditions is reduced through the deterioration of surface spatial resolution. Although overall runoff pattern and accumulated runoff are little affected by spatial resolution, the simulated runoff from sewer outlet shows slight difference at the peak appearance time. The gap between surface pollution load accumulated and it discharged from the sewer outlet in a surface-sewer alternative during runoff period is monitored but the level of error is less than 5-10% except the lowest spatial resolution case.

  • Recently, frequent occurrence of flash floods caused by climactic change has necessitated prompt and quantitative prediction of precipitation. In particular, the usability of rainfall radar that can carry out real-time observation and prediction of precipitation behavior has increased. Moreover, the use of distributed hydrological model that enables grid level analysis has increased for an efficient use of rainfall radar that provides grid data at 1km resolution. The use of distributed hydrologic model necessitates grid-type spatial data about target basins; to enhance reliability of flood runoff simulation, the use of visible and precise data is necessary. In this paper, physically based $Vflo^{TM}$ model and ModClark, a quasi-distributed hydrological model, were used to carry out flood runoff simulation and comparison of simulation results with data from Imjin River Basin, two-third of which is ungauged. The spatial scope of this study was divided into the whole Imjin River basin area, which includes ungauged area, and Imjin River basin area in South Korea for which relatively accurate and visible data are available. Peak flow and lag time outputs from the two simulations of each region were compared to analyze the impact of uncertainty in topographical parameters and soil parameters on flood runoff simulation and to propose effective methods for flood runoff simulation in ungauged regions.

  • The Purpose of this study is the applicaion of social network analysis for expanding the use of spatial data in local government. Spatial data generated from UIS projects play very important roles as a means of supporting decision making and solving complicated urban problems, but the utilization of the spatial data has not reach the expected level, considering to the huge amount of investment. Accordingly, there should be efforts in efficient management of spatial data, establishment of a sharing system, and expanded utilization of spatial data. Social network analysis applied to this research is a theory that explains the behaviors and patterns of units forming the system and measures distances between nodes, strength, etc. based on relations among nodes forming the network and the structural characteristics of the network. According to the results of surveying civil servants who were using spatial data on Busan Metropolitan City, obstacles to the sharing of spatial data were mostly non technical factors related to data users' attitude and their relations with circumstances. In order to expand the use of spatial data, this study performed social network analysis that applied the theory of planned behavior and examined the flow of spatial data, and by doing so, we analyzed related personnel's perception, identified obstacles to data sharing, and suggested a framework for promoting the expanded utilization of spatial data.

  • Recently, forest management objectives become more complex and complicated, and spatial constraints were necessarily considered for ecological stability. Now forest planning is required to provide an optimized solution that is able to achieve a number of management objectives and constraints. In this study, we developed a decision supporting system based on the one of dynamic planning techniques, Tabu Search (TS) heuristic algorithm, which enable one to generate an optimized solution for given objectives and constraints. For this purpose, we analyzed the logical flow of the algorithm and designed the subsequence of processes. To develop a high-performance computing system, we examined a number of strategy to minimize execution time and workloads in each process and to maximize efficiency of using system resources. We examined two model based on the original TS algorithm and revised version of TS algorithm and compared their performance in optimization process. The results showed high performance of the developed system in providing feasible solutions for several management objectives and constraints. Moreover, the revised version of TS algorithm was appeared to be more stable for providing results with minimum variation. The developed system is expected to use for developing forest management plans in Korea.

  • This paper reports on the study of P2P traffic behaviors in a high-speed campus network under a simple firewall which drops packets with default port numbers for the well-blown P2P applications. Among several ways of detecting P2P traffic, the easiest method is to filter out packets with the default port number of each P2P application. After deploying the port-based firewall against P2P-traffic, it is expected that the amount of P2P traffic will be decreased. However, during the eight-month measurement period, three new commercial P2P applications have been identified and their traffic usages have reached up to $30/5.6\%$ of the total outbound/inbound traffic volumes at the end of the measurement period. In addition, the most famous P2P application, eDonkey, has adapted and has escaped detection through port hopping. The measurement result shows that the amount of eDonkey traffic is around $6.7/4.0\%$ of the total outbound/inbound traffic volume. From the measurement results, it is observed that the port-based firewall is not effective to limit the usage of P2P applications and that the P2P traffic is steadily growing due to not only the evolution of existing P2P applications such as port hopping but also appearances of new P2P applications.

  • Rapidly emerging P2P(Peer to Peer) applications generate very bursty traffic, which gives a lot of burden to network, and the amount of such traffic is increasing rapidly. Thus it is becoming more important to understand the characteristics of such traffic and reflect it when we design and analyze the network. To do that we measured the traffic in a campus network and present flow statistics and traffic models of the measured traffic, and compare them with those of the web traffic. The results indicate that P2P traffic is much burstier than web traffic and as a result it negatively affects network performance. We modeled P2P traffic using self-similar traffic model to predict packet delay and loss occurred in network which are very important to evaluate network performance. We also predict queue length distribution and loss probability in SSQ(Single Sewer Queue). To assess accuracy of traffic model, we compare the SSQ statistics of traffic models with that of the traffic trace. The results show that self-similar traffic models we use can predict P2P traffic behavior in network precisely. It is expected that the traffic models we derived can be used when we design network capacity and predict network performance and QoS of the P2P applications.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel method for monitoring mood trend of Twitter users by analyzing their daily tweets for a long period. Then, to more accurately understand their tweets, we analyze all types of content in tweets, i.e., texts and emoticons, and images, thus develop a multimodal sentiment analysis method. In the proposed method, two single-modal analyses first are performed to extract the users' moods hidden in texts and images: a lexicon-based and learning-based text classifier and a learning-based image classifier. Thereafter, the extracted moods from the respective analyses are combined into a tweet mood and aggregated a daily mood. As a result, the proposed method generates a user daily mood flow graph, which allows us for monitoring the mood trend of users more intuitively. For evaluation, we perform two sets of experiment. First, we collect the data sets of 40,447 data. We evaluate our method via comparing the state-of-the-art techniques. In our experiments, we demonstrate that the proposed multimodal analysis method outperforms other baselines and our own methods using text-based tweets or images only. Furthermore, to evaluate the potential of the proposed method in monitoring users' mood trend, we tested the proposed method with 40 depressive users and 40 normal users. It proves that the proposed method can be effectively used in finding depressed users.

  • Recently, the Field Programmable Stateful Logic Array (FPSLA) was proposed as one of the most promising system integration technologies which will extend the life of the Moore's law. This work is the first proposal of the FPSLA design automation flow, and the approaches to logic synthesis, synchronization, physical mapping, and automatic placement of the FPSLA designs. The synchronization at each gate for pipelining determines the x-coordinates of cells, and reduces the placement to 1-dimensional problems. The objective function and its gradients for the non-linear optimization of the net length and placement density have been remodeled for the reduced global placement problem. Also, a recursive algorithm has been proposed to legalize the placement by relaxing the density overflow of bipartite bin groups in a top-down hierarchical fashion. The proposed model and algorithm are implemented, and validated by applying them to the ACM/SIGDA benchmark designs. The output state of a gate in an FPSLA needs to be duplicated so that each fanout gate can be connected to a dedicated copy. This property has been taken into account by merging the duplicated nets into a hyperedge, and then, splitting the hyperedge into edges as the optimization progresses. This yields additional 18.4% of the cell count reduction in the most dense logic stage. The practicality of the FPSLA can be further enhanced primarily by incorporating into the logic synthesis the constraint to avoid the concentrated fains of gates on some logic stages. In addition, an efficient algorithm needs to be devised for the routing problem which is based on a complicated graph. The graph models the nanowire crossbar which is trimmed to be embedded into the FPSLA fabric, and therefore, asymmetric. These CAD tools can be used to evaluate the fabric efficiency during the architecture enhancement as well as automate the design.

  • South Korea has many landslides caused by heavy rains during summer time recently and the landslides continue to cause damages in many places. These landslides occur repeatedly each year, and the frequency of landslides is expected to increase in the coming future due to dramatic global climate change. In Korea, 81.5% of the population is living in urban areas and about 1,055 million people are living in Seoul. In 2011, the landslide that occurred in Seocho-dong killed 18 people and about 9% of Seoul's area is under the same land conditions as Seocho-dong. Even the size of landslide occurred in a city is small, but it is more likely to cause a big disaster because of a greater population density in the city. So far, the effort has been made to identify landslide vulnerability and causes, but now, the new dem and arises for the prediction study about the areal extent of disaster area in case of landslides. In this study, the diffusion model of the landslide disaster area was established based on Cellular Automata(CA) to analyze the physical diffusion forms of landslide. This study compared the accuracy with the Seocho-dong landslide case, which occurred in July 2011, applying the SCIDDICA model and the CAESAR model. The SCIDDICA model involves the following variables, such as the movement rules and the topographical obstacles, and the CAESAR model is also applied to this process to simulate the changes of deposition and erosion.

  • This paper aims at examining the existence and characteristics of regional difference in project finance in Korea. Main results of this paper are as follow. Firstly, regional difference in project finance between capital region and local can be seen partially. However, their characteristics are different from corporate finance. ANOVA tests show significant differences of excess interest rate occur in case of commercial real estate projects and significant differences of contracted terms occur in case of residential real estate projects carried out by local banks. Secondly, key factors causing the regional differences in project finance are asymmetric information for cash flow generated by the project between the capital region and local. Especially, regional differences in project finance are different from those in corporate financing because of local banks$^{\circ}{\phi}$ behaviors. They follow and act as the passive members of nationwide banks in case of the capital region projects. Thirdly, prepaid sale system and the guarantee system depending on construction companies dilute the regional differences in project finance in case of residential real estate projects. Although these systems contributed rapid growth of project finance, they may be the main factors distorting project finance market which lead to financial crisis. In these context, policy implications may be derived in order to solve the confronted problems of project finance market.
