In this study, a general low-rise building was selected to compare the new shear wall reinforcement method, which is a general method among the existing reinforcement methods, and the reinforcement method using sinusoidal corrugated web reinforcement. And it was confirmed that the following effects can be expected. Sinusoidal corrugated web members can be carried out in a short period of time as it does not require the removal of the masonry filling wall, the reinforcement of reinforcing bars, and the curing period of the concrete. It is effective in preventing damage that may occur when masonry filling wall is overturned in the out-of-plane direction, and the burden of the foundation is also reduced, and thus the construction period and cost required for reinforcement can greatly be reduced. By adjusting the number of sinusoidal corrugated web member, details of joints, and reinforcement positions, the flow of load can be induced to have an advantageous effect on the building. It can be considered as the most suitable reinforcement plan in terms of life safety. Unlike the shear wall that fills between the columns, the sinusoidal corrugated web members, which has a width of 1.5m, can install openings between two columns depending on the purpose of use, and can be expected to have a great effect in terms of usability due to its free installation location. As mentioned above, the seismic reinforcement using a sinusoidal corrugated web members, can expect great effect compared to conventional reinforcement methods in terms of usability, economic feasibility, and stability.

A numerical model was developed to predict the stage-discharge curve and lateral distribution of unit discharge in open channels with nonuniform cross section or compound open-channels. The governing equation is the one-dimensional momentum equation based on assumptions of the steady and uniform flow conditions in the longitudinal direction and the uniform water surface elevation in a cross section. Vegetative drag force term was included in governing equation in order to reflect the effect of floodplain vegetation on the flow characteristics. Finite element method was applied to obtain the numerical solution of the governing equation. Stage-discharge curve and lateral distribution of unit discharge for a given water surface are calculated based on input data, such as the cross sectional geometry, Manning's roughness coefficient, vegetative information and longitudinal slope of channel bed. The developed model was verified by comparing the calculated results with the observed data and the results of Darby and Thorne's(1996) model and the nonlinear k-$\epsilon$ model. The verified model was applied to estimate the upstream boundary conditions in two-dimensional flow model. The numerical results using laterally distributed unit discharge were compared with those obtained using uniformly distributed unit discharge in two-dimensional flow model.

Abstract The typical distribution systems have the power flow from distribution substations (sources) to customers (load) only as one direction. However, in the case where distributed generations (DG) such as PV system and wind power systems are connected to distribution systems, the DG output variations to distribution systems, so called reverse power flow, may cause the bi-directional power flow. So, the reverse power flow has severe impacts on typical power system, for example power quality problems, protection coordination problems, and so on. Especially, protection devices (sectionalizer) in primary feeder of distribution system interconnected with distributed generations may cause problems of malfunction, and then many customers could have problems like an interruption. So, this paper presents the bi-directional operation algorithm of protection devices to overcome the problems like mal-function. And, also this paper shows the effectiveness of proposed method by using both PSCAD/EMTDC software and test facility of protection devices to simulate the field distribution systems.

An experimental study is carried out to investigate the effect of jet stream in the gab of rectangular cylinders with different length in a parallel arrangement by using PIV method in a circulating water channel. The height(h) of the rectangular cylinder and the gap between the cylinder is 10mm, and the width(B) which is 300mm. The length of the model for flow direction was applied to 30mm, 60mm, 90mm & 120mm, The aspect ratio of a model on the basis of height(H=30mm) is 1, 2, 3 and 4. Reynolds number $Re=1.4{\times}10^4$, $Re=2.0{\times}10^4$, $Re=2.9{\times}10^4$ based on the height(H) of model for the distance of tidal distributions as of water depth have been applied during the whole experiments. The measurement area was set to 5H rear of the cylinder. As a result, Vortex size in the wake area were increased as velocity increased. and high aspect ratio increased through-flow velocity component in the near wake. Velocity deficit increased highly after near-wake area and low aspect ratio.
This is the basic study in order to know the amount of transpirational water loss in a Larix leptorepis stand by a heat pulse method. Especially this study has been measured and discussed the diurnal and seasonal trends of heat pulse velocity by changes of radiation, temperature and humidity, differences of heat pulse velocity by direction and depth in stem, differences of heat pulse velocity by dominant, codominant and suppressed trees, diurnal change of heat pulse velocity by change of leaf water potential, sap flow path way in sapwood by dye penetration and amount of daily and annual transpiration in a tree and stand. The results obtained as follows : 1. Relation between heat pulse velocity(V) and sap flow rate(SFR) was established as a equation of SFR=1.37V($r=0.96^{**}$). 2. The sap flow rate presented in the order of dominant, codominant and suppressed tree, respectively. The daily heat pulse velocity was changed by radiation, temperature and vapor pressure deficit. 3. The heat pulse velocity in individual trees did not differ in early morning and in late night, but had some differed from 12 to 16 hours when radiation was relatively high. 4. The heat pulse velocity and leaf water potential showed similar diurnal variation. 5. The seasonal variation of heat pulse velocity was highest in August, but lowest in October and similar value of heat pulse velocity in the other months. 6. The heat pulse velocity in stem by direction was highest in eastern, but lowest in southern and similar velocity in western and northern. 7. The difference of heat pulse velocity in according to depths was highest in 2.0cm depth, medium in 1.0cm depth, and lowest in 3.0cm depth from surface of stem. 8. The sap flow path way in stem showed spiral ascent turning right pattern in five sample trees, especially showed little spiral ascent turning right in lower part than 3m hight above ground, but very speedy in higher than 3m hight. 9. The amount of sap flow(SF) was presented as a equation of SF=1.37AV and especially SF in dominant tree was larger than in codominant or suppressed tree. 10. The amount of daily transpiration was 30.8ton/ha/day and its composition ratio was 83% at day and 17% at night. 11. The amount of stand transpiration per month was largest in August(1,194ton/ha/month), lowest in May (386ton/ha/month). The amount of stand transpiration per year was 3,983ton/ha/year.
The three-dimensional unsteady incompressible Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations and k-${\varepsilon}$ double equations turbulent model were used to investigate the effect on the measurements of anemometers due to a passing high-speed train. Sliding mesh technology in Fluent was utilized to treat the moving boundary problem. The high-speed train considered in this paper was with bogies and inter-carriage gaps. Combined with the results of the wind tunnel test in a published paper, the accuracy of the present numerical method was validated to be used for further study. In addition, the difference of slipstream between three-car and eight-car grouping models was analyzed, and a series of numerical simulations were carried out to study the influences of the anemometer heights, the train speeds, the crosswind speeds and the directions of the induced slipstream on the measurements of the anemometers. The results show that the influence factors of the train-induced slipstream are the passing head car and tail car. Using the three-car grouping model to analyze the train-induced flow is reasonable. The maxima of horizontal slipstream velocity tend to reduce as the height of the anemometer increases. With the train speed increasing, the relationship between $V_{train}$ and $V_{induced\;slipstream}$ can be expressed with linear increment. In the absence of natural wind conditions, from the head car arriving to the tail car leaving, the induced wind direction changes about $330^{\circ}$, while under the crosswind condition the wind direction fluctuates around $-90^{\circ}$. With the crosswind speed increasing, the peaks of $V_X,{\mid}V_{XY}-V_{wind}{\mid}$ of the head car and that of $V_X$ of the tail car tend to enlarge. Thus, when anemometers are installed along high-speed railways, it is important to study the effect on the measurements of anemometers due to the train-induced slipstream.
Sandwich injection molding is one of the remarkable polymer processes recently developed from conventional injection molding. But it is almost impossible to do theoretical investigation that we've researched it through numerical simulation. In this paper, numerical simulation on the study of sandwich injection molding is based on Finite Element Method and FAN/Control Volume method. In addition to conventional filling parameter that can confirm skin polymer melt front, new filling parameters have been introduced to confirm core polymer melt front advancement. These filling parameters are defined in each layer which is divided to solve temperature field along the thickness direction. One can notice different filling patterns resulted from the variation of material properties such as viscosities and power-law indexes, and processing conditions such as switch-over times and wall temperatures. It gives us a better understanding of the sandwich injection molding process. And we can recognize that it's the core polymer spatial distribution after the completion of filling that is the most important key point to use this process for industrial molding process.

The present paper describes a mathematical modeling and simulation of the separation of a solid rocket booster from an air breathing engine vehicle. The vehicle and booster are considered as a multi-connected body and the booster is assumed to move only along the axial direction of the vehicle. The dynamic motion of the vehicle and the booster were modeled by using Kane's method. The aerodynamic forces on the whole system along various positions of booster were calculated by using DATCOM software and the internal pressure force acting on the effective surface during separation was simply calculated with gas dynamics and Taylor MacColl equation. Numerical simulation was done by using Mathworks-Matlab. From the result, the variation of Mach number and angle of attack are not large during the separation, so the variation of pitch angle and the characteristics of inlet flow for varying the Mach number and angle of attack during the separation test can be identified as neglectable values.

Objectives: An image processing program for asbestos fibers analyzing the gradient components and partial linearity was developed in order to accurately segment fibers. The objectives were to increase the accuracy of counting through the formulation of the size and shape of fibers and to guarantee robust fiber detection in noisy backgrounds. Methods: We utilized samples mixed with sand and sepiolite, which has a similar structure to asbestos. Sample concentrations of 0.01%, 0.05%, 0.1%, 0.5%, 1%, 2%, and 3%(w/w) were prepared. The sand used was homogenized after being sieved to less than $180{\mu}m$. Airborne samples were collected on MCE filters by utilizing a personal pump with 2 L/min flow rate for 30 minutes. We used the NIOSH 7400 method for pre-treating and counting the fibers on the filters. The results of the NIOSH 7400 method were compared with those of the image processing program. Results: The performance of the developed algorithm, when compared with the target images acquired by PCM, showed that the detection rate was on average 88.67%. The main causes of non-detection were missing fibers with a low degree of contrast and overlapping of faint and thin fibers. Also, some duplicate countings occurred for fibers with breaks in the middle due to overlapping particles. Conclusions: An image detection algorithm that could increase the accuracy of fiber counting was developed by considering the direction of the edge to extract images of fibers. It showed comparable results to PCM analysis and could be used to count fibers through real-time tracking by modeling a branch point to graph. This algorithm can be utilized to measure the concentrations of asbestos in real-time if a suitable optical design is developed.

Effects of crack separation, bridge area, on the tensile behaviour of concrete are studied experimentally and numerically through the Brazilian tensile test. The physical data obtained from the Brazilian tests are used to calibrate the two-dimensional particle flow code based on discrete element method (DEM). Then some specially designed Brazilian disc specimens containing two parallel cracks are used to perform the physical tests in the laboratory and numerically simulated to make the suitable numerical models to be tested. The experimental and numerical results of the Brazilian disc specimens are compared to conclude the validity and applicability of these models used in this research. Validation of the simulated models can be easily checked with the results of Brazilian tests performed on non-persistent cracked physical models. The Brazilian discs used in this work have a diameter of 54 mm and contain two parallel centred cracks ($90^{\circ}$ to the horizontal) loaded indirectly under the compressive line loading. The lengths of cracks are considered as; 10 mm, 20 mm, 30 mm and 40 mm, respectively. The visually observed failure process gained through numerical Brazilian tests are found to be very similar to those obtained through the experimental tests. The fracture patterns demonstrated by DEM simulations are mostly affected by the crack separation but the tensile strength of bridge area is related to the fracture pattern and failure mechanism of the testing samples. It has also been shown that when the crack lengths are less than 30 mm, the tensile cracks may initiate from the cracks tips and propagate parallel to loading direction till coalesce with the other cracks tips while when the cracks lengths are more than 30 mm, these tensile cracks may propagate through the intact concrete itself rather than that of the bridge area.
