  • [Purpose] Recently, skyscrapers have sharply increased throughout the world, including South Korea. Although a skyscraper has its own merit such as the landmark of a city, it also has various problems like massive energy consumption. This study is aimed to establish the concept of environment-friendly skyscraper and propose a plan to realize skyscraper after analyzing the architectural, facility and environmental friendly elements of skyscrapers. [Method] This study lists up skyscrapers over 40 floors and 200 meters high. Upon 10 constructed buildings, it analyzes their basic plans and the green building technologies applied to them and suggests effective and environment-friendly architectural plan. [Result] This study examined the distinctions of the layout, shape, facade, and floor plan plane of 10 skyscrapers and found out specific techniques to be used for the use plan of natural energy, plan for saving resources and reducing wastes and a plan for environmental architecture and system.

  • Serviceability of buildings is affect by excessive acceleration experienced at the top floors in wind storms that may cause discomfort to the occupants. Tuned liquid damper(TLD) and multiple tuned liquid damper(MTLD) are passive control devices that consists of rigid tank filled with liquid to suppress the vibration of structures. This TLD and MTLD are attributable to several potential advantages - low costs; easy to install in existing structures; effective even for small-amplitude vibrations. In this paper, the behavior of TLD and MTLD are investigated analytically and wind tunnel test of high-frequency force balance.

  • In this paper, we propose a row warehouse type container yard (WTCY) which deal with the excess of port´s container capacity in 2004 instead of using the Yangsan inland container depot (ICD) in Pusan container terminals. Because the off dock container yard (ODCY) which located in Pusan port around exceeds the port´s capacity in 2004, the Yansan ICD will be used for handling an overflowed amount of containers. But there are need an amount of extra expense includes social overhead capital (SOC) to transports containers to Yangsan ICD. To overcome this problem, a WTCY which can be handled the container in each floors is proposed. The proposed WTCY can be located in container terminal ...

  • To determine the trajectories and the impact of rain drops on the facade of a tall building, a particle tracking method is employed form steady state simulation of turbulent flow around the building. The simulation is performed for the upper part of the building comprising a detailed louver system. Rain is trapped at relative high rates on the roof and the penthouse, with Local Intensity Factors (LIF's) of the order of 1. The upper parapets and upper floors get a fair amount of wetting with LIF's of the order of 0.6. The wetting decreases downwards reaching values of 0.2 to 0.25 at the level of the louver system.

  • Nowadays, most shop floors using industrial robots have many problems such as constructing robot workcell, generating robot arm moving trajectory, etc.. In the case of programming robot-arms for a specific task, shop operator commonly use the teach pendant to record the target position and determine the moving trajectory. However, such a teaching process may result in an inefficient trajectory in the sense of moving distance and joint angle fluctuation. Moreover, shop operators who have little knowledge about robot programming process need a lot of learning time and cost. The purpose of this paper is to propose a user friendly robot programming method to program robot-arms easily and efficiently for shop operator so that the programming time is reduced and a short and stable trajectory is obtained.

  • Floor impact noise isolation performance of reinforced concrete floors was investigated through new measurement method using impact bail. Strong impact force in Bow frequency band below 63 Hz of bang machine is not similar to human impact source and causes some problem in evaluating heavy-weight Impact noise but heavy-weight impact noise measurement and evaluation using impact ball which is very similar to human impact is more reliable than bang machine. Correction value on the background noise and sensitivity of residents should be considered on the floor impact noise evaluation classes.

  • The dynamic characteristic of the building using preflex composite beams is a low natural frequency due to long span. Therefore, both vibrational acceleration and the characteristic of natural frequency damage to people using the building, This study estimates a vibrational acceleration based on walking and natural frequency in five kinds of building. Recently, using methods of evaluating a serviceability are based on JIA, AISC, Eurocode, CSA, DIN and ISO. ed. The result of this study is content with foreign regulations and serviceability. However, considering of these results, the method of evaluating serviceability should be developed in the future.

  • The primary objective of this study is to provide simple analytical tools to estimate dynamic characteristics of steel framed floor system in hospital building for vibration serviceability due to human activities, bogie, medical equipment. and so on. In order to evaluate the dynamic characteristics and vibration levels according to steel framed floor system, we had executed impact test and measurement on steel structure floor system in various hospital buildings. But perhaps most importantly, how to make the most of deduced design factor for design of hospital building. therefore we presented the access method such as the three-dimensional F.E. numerical analysis on the basis of the design drawing, and the properties of all floors for estimation of vibration level in hospital building.

  • Resilient materials are generally used for the floating floors to reduce the floor impact sound. Dynamic stiffness of resilient material, which has the most to do with the floor impact sound reduction. The resilient materials available in Korea include EPS (Styrofoam), recycled urethane types, EVA (Ethylene Vinylacetate) foam rubber, foam PE (Polyethylene), glass fiber & rock wool, recycled tire, foam polypropylene, compressed polyester, and other synthetic materials. In this study, we tested floor impact sound reduction characteristic to a lot of kinds of resilient material. The result of test showed that the amount of the Light-weight impact sound reduction appeared by being influenced from this dynamic stiffness of resilient material. As the decreasing dynamic stiffness of resilient material, the impact sound reduction amount is increased, especially in the low frequency domain.

  • A method is presented in this paper to analyze the dynamic response behavior of suspended building structures. The effect of semi-rigid connections that link suspended floors with their supporting structure on structural performance is investigated. The connections, like the restrains in non-structural suspended components, are designed as semi-rigid to avoid pounding and as energy dissipation components to reduce structural response. Parametric study is conducted to assess the dynamic characteristics of suspended building structures with varying connection stiffness and suspended mass ratios. Modal analysis is applied to identify the two distinct sets of vibration modes, pendulum and bearing, of a suspended building structure. The cumulative modal mass is discussed to ensure the accuracy in applying the method of response spectrum analysis by SRSS or CQC modal combination. Case studies indicate that a suspended building having semi-rigid connections and proper suspended mass ratios can avoid local pounding failure and reduce seismic response.
