In order to relieve limitation of flight operation under icing condition and verify its operation in adverse weather condition for Surion, military helicopter developed in Korea, airworthiness certification in icing condition is required. The process of Surion icing certification should be considered by implementation of four methods by step such as CFD analysis, simulated flight tests, artificial icing flight tests, and natural icing flight tests. For Surion icing flight tests, these are required 20~30 sorties and 20~23 hours in artificial icing condition; 20~30 sorties and 20~22 hours in natural icing condition. In addition, to proceed with efficient flight tests, it is necessary to implement artificial icing flight tests in LWC $0.5{\sim}1.0g/m^3;$ natural icing flight tests in less than LWC $0.5g/m^3$.

Flight parameters of a light aircraft in normal category named ChangGong-91 we identified from flight tests. Modified Maximum Likelihood Estimation (MMLE) is used to produce aerodynamic coefficients, stability and control derivatives. A Flight Training Device (FTD) has been developed based on the identified flight parameters. Flat earth, rigid body, and standard atmosphere are assumed in the FTD model. Euler angles are adapted for rotational state variables to reduce computational load. Variations in flight Mach number and Reynolds number are assumed to be negligible. Body, stability and inertial axes allow 6 second-order linear differential equations for translational and rotational motions. The equations of motion are integrated with respect to time, resulting in good agreements with flight tests.

It is very difficult to acquire high-fidelity flight test data for small airplanes such as typical unmanned aerial vehicles because MEMS-type small sensors used in the tests do not present reliable data in general. Besides, it is not practical to conduct expensive flight tests for low-cost small airplanes in order to simulate their flight characteristics. A practical approach to obtain acceptable flight data, including stability and control derivatives and data of weight and balance, is proposed in this study. Aircraft design software such as Darcorp's AAA is used to generate aerodynamic data for small airplanes, and moments of inertia are calculated using CATIA, structural design software. These flight data from simulation software are evaluated subjectively and tailored using simulation flight by experienced pilots, based on the certified procedures in FAA AC 120-45A and 40B, which are used for manned airplane simulators.

In developing an aircraft, configuration determination and requirement proofing depend on flight test results. Since the flight tests require much time and high cost, systematic flight test planning and analysis are needed to reduce cost and development time. This paper presents a desirability function approach to present an integrative measure of vibration levels at important positions and suggests a fractional factorial design which is one of the experimental design methods to help perform systematic flight tests. A method to perform flight tests in stages is also suggested to further reduce the number of flight tests.

This paper suggests an installation procedure of a smart skin prototype into an aircraft, flight demonstration test procedures and test results. Four communication and navigation antennas are embedded into one Conformal Load-bearing Antenna Structure(CLAS). Log periodic patch type antenna was designed as a multi-band antenna to cover four antenna frequency bands. The requirements of CLAS were verified by ground tests before aircraft installation. A CLAS speed-brake was installed into KT-1 aircraft and performances of dual antennas were verified as multi-antenna tests on the ground. Electromagnetic compatibility tests were conducted to check compatibility between the CLAS and all existing equipments. Flight demonstration tests were conducted by one sortie of flight test for one antenna. The activeness and continuity of communication and navigation signal during the flight, null area of antenna signal along the circling flight were monitored. The embedded antennas worked better than expected during four sorties of flight tests.
This is a research report about the method of how to maintain qualification of certification flight test crews. KCA(Korea Certification Agency) have completed the KC-100 airplane certification flight tests which is the first time experienced flight tests operation. After the certification flight test, it has been found that annual flying time requirement of 100 hours to the certification flight test pilot is too strict, and other several requirements to maintain the qualification of the certification test crew such as aircraft certification introduction training, initial flight test pilot and flight test engineer certification training, crew resource management training, aviation physiology training, and survival training was difficult to implement in Korean civil aviation environments. In this study, it was suggested that 30 hours of flying time for maintaining certification flight test pilot qualification could be applied to contribute for safe operation of certification flight test and the other training requirements of the certification flight test crew could be fulfilled using self made training courses, existing FAA training courses and Korean Air Force training resources. Therefore, it is recommended that the regulation of maintaining the certification flight test crew qualification should be refined to implement the requirement practically.

The full results of troubleshooting process related to the flight control system of a tilt-rotor type UAV in the flight tests are described. Flight tests were conducted in helicopter, conversion, and airplane modes. The vehicle was flown using automatic functions, which include speed-hold, altitude-hold, heading-hold, guidance modes, as well as automatic take-off and landing. Many unexpected problems occurred during the envelope expansion tests which were mostly under those automatic functions. The anomalies in helicopter mode include vortex ring state (VRS), long delay in the automatic take-off, and the initial overshoot in the automatic landing. In contrast, the anomalies in conversion mode are untrimmed AOS oscillation and the calibration errors of the air data sensors. The problems of low damping in rotor speed and roll rate responses are found in airplane mode. Once all of the known problems had been solved, the vehicle in airplane mode gradually reached the maximum design speed of 440km/h at the operation altitude of 3km. This paper also presents a comprehensive detailing of the control systems of the tilt-rotor unmanned air vehicle (UAV).

In this study, the engine performance data was extracted and analyzed through the flight test of Smart UAV which is tilt rotor aircraft. The flight test was conducted for the transition flight regime where the tilt angle of prop-rotor varies from 90 degree to 0 degree and vice versa. The engine performance data such as engine power and specific fuel consumption gathered from flight tests were compared well with the results of engine performance analysis program.

In this paper, an unmanned delivery service using drone was proposed and verified the feasibility. The multicopter has GPS for autopilot and a camera for remote control by human operator. The gripper for manipulation of delivery object was designed and evaluated. The multicopter flies to a given position automatically based on GPS, and approaches to the prepared delivery desk by remote control of human operator using the received image from the multicopter. GPS sensor verification and experimental PID tuning were performed to ensure the flight stability. The flight tests were carried out to verify the feasibility of delivery service.

Flight test data visualization functions can improve an understanding of flight test results, test procedures, and the performance of a flight vehicle after flight tests. FlyingView was developed for researchers to analyse flight test data in a 3D virtual environment. It also can display X-Y plots using flight test data. It was developed and applied to flight tests of an air-to-ground weapon system of ADD. This paper describes the capabilities of FlyingView.
