This paper describes the standardized finite element model for carbody structures of railway vehicle made of sandwich composites. Recently, sandwich composites were widely used to railway vehicle due to the improvement of energy efficiency, high specific stiffness and strength, weight reduction and space saving in korea. Therefore, structural integrity should be verified using finite element analysis prior to the manufacture of composite railway vehicle. The standardized finite element model for composite carbody structures was introduced through comparing the results of real structural test under vertical, compressive, twisting load and natural frequency test of various railway vehicles in this study. The results show that the quadratic shell element is suitable to model the reinforced metal frame used to improve the flexural stiffness of sandwich panel compared to beam element, and layered shell and solid element are recommended to model the skin and honeycomb core of sandwich panel compared to sandwich shell element. Also, the proposed standard finite element model has the merit of being applied to crashworthiness problem without modifications of finite element model.
The effect of content of $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$ sintering additives on the densification behavior, mechanical and electrical properties of the pressureless-sintered $SiC-ZrB_2$ electroconductive ceramic composites was investigated. The $SiC-ZrB_2$ electroconductive ceramic composites were pressureless-sintered for 2 hours at 1,700[$^{\circ}C$] temperatures with an addition of $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$(6:4 mixture of $Al_2O_3$ and $Y_2O_3$) as a sintering aid in the range of 8${\sim}$20[wt%]. Phase analysis of $SiC-ZrB_2$ composites by XRD revealed mostly of ${\alpha}$-SiC(6H), $ZrB_2$ and In Situ YAG($Al_5Y_3O_{12}$). The relative density, flexural strength, Young's modulus and vicker's hardness showed the highest value of 89.01[%], 81.58[Mpa], 31.437[GPa] and 1.34[GPa] for $SiC-ZrB_2$ composites added with 16[wt%] $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$ additives at room temperature respectively. Abnormal grain growth takes place during phase transformation from ${\beta}$-SiC into ${\alpha}$-SiC was correlated with In Situ YAG phase by reaction between $Al_2O_3$ and $Y_2O_3$ additive during sintering. Compositional design and optimization of processing parameters are key factors for controlling and improving the properties of SiC-based electroconductive ceramic composites. In this paper, it is convinced that ${\beta}$-SiC based electroconductive ceramic composites for heaters or ignitors can be manufactured by pressureless sintering.
This study investigates a failure mechanism of a tunnel shotcrete lining with respect to a concentrated load due to blocky rock mass. First of all, it is carried out to survey relevant researches to shotcrete failures by literature reviews and to numerically re-investigate the failure modes of shotcrete lining given by previous researches. Through this study, the failure modes are relocated with the conditions which induce each failure mode newly proposed by this study. In addition to this, the arching shape of tunnel lining, which has not been considered in the previous research despite of inherent geometrical characteristics in tunnels, is taken into consideration in numerical investigation on lining failure in this study. As a result, it is shown that more simplified failure modes can be found on the tunnel boundary condition and the corresponding failure condition to each mode can be different from ones of the previous study due to a tunnel arching effect.
The $\beta$-SiC+$ZrB_2$ ceramic composites were pressureless-sintered and annealed by adding 4, 8, 12wt% $Al_{2}O_{3}+Y_{2}O_{3}$(6 : 4wt%) powder as a liquid forming additives at $1800^{\circ}C$ for 4h. The relative density is over 79.3% of the theoretical density and phase analysis of the composites by XRD revealed of $\alpha$-SiC(6H, 4H), $ZrB_2$, $Al_{5}Y_{2}O_{12}$ and $\beta$-SiC(15R). Flexural strength showed the highest of 301.33MPa for composites added with 8wt% $Al_{2}O_{3}+Y_{2}O_{3}$ additives at room temperature. Owing to crack deflection and crack bridging of fracture toughness mechanism, the fracture toughness showed the highest of $3.6979MPa{\cdot}m^{1/2}$ for composites added with 8wt% $Al_{2}O_{3}+Y_{2}O_{3}$ additives at room temperature. The electrical resistivity was measured by the Pauw method from $25^{\circ}C$ to $700^{\circ}C$. The electrical resistivity of the composites showed the PTCR(Positive Temperature Coefficient Resistivity).

The joint of existing steel grid composite deck is composed of lap splice of reinforcing bar with end hooks and field-placed concrete. In this study, bending tests of deck joint composed of concrete shear key and high tension bolts are carried out for the design variable, concrete shear key strengthened with steel plate or not, and test results are compared with flexural performance of the existing deck joint. Test results showed that the mechanical deck joint has about 30% ~ 60% more ultimate bending strength than the existing joint. According to analysis results of moment-curvature relationship, the initial bending stiffness of the existing deck joint is some higher than that of mechanical joint. But, after crack failure the structural performance of the existing deck joint is rapidly reduced. Furthermore, the deck joint with the strengthened shear key with steel plate has more bending moment capacity than the deck joint without strengthening. And strengthening of shear key has positive influence on the increase of bending stiffness.

The mechanical and electrical properties of pressed and annealed $\beta-SiC-TiB_2$ electroconductive ceramic composites were investigated as a function of the liquid forming additives of $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$. Phase analysis of composites by XRD revealed $\alpha$-SiC(6H), TiB2, and (Al5Y3O12). Reaction between Al2O3 and $Y_2O_3$ formed YAG but the relative density decreased with increasing $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$ contents. The Flexural strength showed the value of 458.9 MPa for composites added with 4 wt% $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$ additives at room temperatures. Owing to crack deflection and crack bridging, the fracture toughness showed 6.2, 6.0 and 6.6 MPa.m1/2 for composites added with 4, 8 and 12 wt% Al2O3+Y2O3 additives respectively at room temperature. The resistance temperature coefficient showed the value of $3.6\times10^{-3},\; 2.9\times10^{-3}\; and\; 3.0\times10^{-3} /^{\circ}C$$^{\circ}C$ for composite added with 4, 8 and 12 wt% $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$additives respectively at room temperature. The electrical resistivity of the composites was all positive temperature coefficient resistance(PTCR) in the temperature range of $25^{\circ}C\; to\; 700^{\circ}$.

The speed performances of ice sea trial on the Arctic(2010 & 2011) area were shown different results depend on the ice floe size. Penetration phenomena of level ice was not happened on medium ice floe and tore up by the impact force because the mass of medium ice floe is similar to the mass of Araon which is Korean ice breaking research vessel and did not shut up by the ice ridge or iceberg. The sea trial on the Amundsen sea was performed at the big floe which is classified by WMO(World Meteorological Organization). Three measurements of ice properties and five results of speed trial were obtained with different ice thicknesses and engine powers. To evaluate speed of level ice trial and model test results at the same ice thickness and engine power, the correction method of HSVA(Hamburg Ship Model Basin) was used. The thickness, snow effect, flexural strength and friction coefficient were corrected to compare the speed of sea trial. The analyzed speed at 1.03m thickness of big floe was 5.85 knots at 10MW power and it's 6.10 knots at 1.0m ice thickness and the same power. It's bigger than the results of level ice because big floe was also slightly tore up by the impact force of vessel based on the observation of recorded video.

Objectives: In this study, we evaluated the influence of different radiant exposures provided by single-peak and polywave light-curing units (LCUs) on the degree of conversion (DC) and the mechanical properties of resin cements. Materials and Methods: Six experimental groups were established for each cement (RelyX ARC, 3M ESPE; LuxaCore Dual, Ivoclar Vivadent; Variolink, DMG), according to the different radiant exposures (5, 10, and $20J/cm^2$) and two LCUs (single-peak and polywave). The specimens were made (7 mm in length ${\times}$ 2 mm in width ${\times}$ 1 mm in height) using silicone molds. After 24 hours of preparation, DC measurement was performed using Fourier transform infrared spectrometry. The same specimens were used for the evaluation of mechanical properties (flexural strength, FS; elastic modulus, E) by a three-point bending test. Data were assessed for normality, after which two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and post hoc Tukey's test were performed. Results: No properties of the Variolink cement were influenced by any of the considered experimental conditions. In the case of the RelyX ARC cement, DC was higher when polywave LCU was used; FS and E were not influenced by the conditions evaluated. The LuxaCore cement showed greater sensitivity to the different protocols. Conclusions: On the basis of these results, both the spectrum of light emitted and the radiant exposure used could affect the properties of resin cements. However, the influence was material-dependent.
Both strength and stiffness of RC structures strengthened by a steel plate greatly increase and however, their ductility might not be sufficient because premature failures usually occur at the adhesive-concrete interface. In this study, Mohr-Coulomb criterion was adopted to examine the bonding failure mechanism, and the diagonal shear bonding test, the direct shear bonding test, and the flexural test on RC beams strengthened by a steel plate were carried out to measure the bonding properties. It is found from the experimental and numerical results that the cohesive strengths of epoxy-concrete interfaces are ranging from 50 kgf/㎠ to 70 kgf/㎠ when the friction angle is 45°. Bonding failure loads can be predicted by applying the bonding properties to the structural analysis of RC beams strengthened by steel plate. By considering them in the design of strengthened beams, the premature failure would be effectively prevented.

Several techniques, including transmission X-ray photography and AC-impedance spectroscopy, are available for evaluating the fiber dispersion in a fiber reinforced concrete Evaluating the fiber dispersion in fiber reinfored concrete needs since the fibers bridge crackseffectively. However, these equipment is very expensive. Therefore this paper presents the quantitative evaluation method based on the image analysis of sectional image taken using an ordinary digital camera. After detecting the fiber accurately, the fiber dispersion characteristics are represented by the coefficient such as the fiber dispersion coefficient, the number of fibers in unit area, and the distribution of the fiber orientation. Test were performed to evaluate the effectiveness of proposed method and the dispersion characteristics of fibers according placing method and flow direction. Additionally, the effect of fiber dispersion characteristics on mechanical properties was investigated. Test results shows that fiber aligned along the flow direction and more fibers placed and dispersion was better on the section parallel to the flow direction. And about 50% difference in the flexural tensile strength according to the placing method occured.
