  • Prestressing steels are susceptible to corrosion, which is considered the major reason in the deterioration of prestressed concrete structures. To solve this problem, many research have been made to utilize new type of tendons. FRP tendons have many advantages compared to steel tendons. However, FRP tendons have some disadvantages, such as no plastic behavior. This study focused on the flexural behavior of prestresssed concrete beams which is fabricated by post-tensioning method with CFRP (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic) tendons. Th results drawn from the study, prestressed concrete beams with CFRP tendons have higher flexural cracking load, flexural yielding load, and flexural fracture load. While displacement at the fracture stage is lower compared to prestressed concrete beams with steel tendon. Excessive steel reinforcement lead lower ductility index. So, appropriate reinforcement guideline is needed. Further more, prestressed concrete beams with CFRP tendons can have sufficient ductility index when ruptured by crushing of concrete or used unbonded tendon. Therefore, the best design method for prestressed concrete beams with CFRP tendons is over-reinforcement, and use of unbonded tendon.

  • In this paper, the artificial neural network (ANN) is employed to predict the flexural behavior of reinforced concrete (RC) beams retrofitted with carbon fiber/epoxy composites modified by carbon nanotubes (CNTs). Multiple techniques are used to improve the accuracy of the ANN prediction, as the data represents a multivalued function. These techniques include static ANN modeling, ANN modeling with load history, and ANN modeling with double load history. The developed ANN models are used to predict the load-displacement profiles of beams retrofitted with either CFRP or CNTs modified CFRP, flexural capacity, and maximum displacement of the beams. The results demonstrate that the ANN is able to predict the flexural behavior of the retrofitted RC beams as well as the effect of each parameter including the type of the used epoxy and the presence of the CNTs.

  • The present investigation is mainly focused on studying the flexural behavior of reinforced geopolymer concrete (RGPC) beams under pure bending. In this study, copper slag (CS) was used as a partial replacement of fine aggregate. Sand and CS were blended in different proportions (100:0, 80:20, 60:40 and 40:60) (sand:CS) by weight. Fly ash and ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS) were used as binders and combination of sodium hydroxide (8M) and sodium silicate solution were used for activating the binders. The reinforcement of RGPC beam was designed as per guidelines given in the IS 456-2000 and tested under pure bending (two-point loading) after 28 days of ambient curing. After conducting two point load test the flexural parameters viz., moment carrying capacity, ultimate load, service load, cracking moment, cracking load, crack pattern and ultimate deflection were studied. From the results, it is concluded that RGPC beams have shown better performance up to 60% of CS replacement.

  • In this thesis, fracture tests were carried out in order to investigate the flexural strength behavior of FRC(fiber reinforced concrete) structures. FRC beams were used in the tests, the initial crack load and the ultimate load of the beams were observed under the static loading. According to the results, the ultimate loads increase with the fiber content, and these tendency is clear in the specimens with large fiber aspect ratio. From the results of the regression analysis, practical formulae for predicting the flexural strength of FRC were suggested.

  • This paper describes the effect of span-to-depth ratio, which describes aspect of cell formed with top diaphragm steel plate, on capacity in composite steel-concrete structure of sandwich system. The span-to-depth ratio \ulcorner load-carrying mechanism and load-distribution capacity of structure. Therefore, stress levels of members and load-resis\ulcorner of system vary according to span-depth ratio. In this study, numerical nonlinear analysis was performed to various ratio for two types(MA, MB) composite structure of sandwich system to analyze the influence of span-to-depth ratio or, behavior. The difference of load-carrying mechanism and stress of members results from analysis results, then bas\ulcorner differences, the effects of span-to-depth ratio on shear capacity, flexural capacity and load-resistance capacity were analyze effects on failure mode and ductility were briefly. As a results of this study, as span-to-depth ratio increases, \ulcorner bottom steel plate and concrete lower. This implies an increase in effective flexural and shear capacity. Therefore lo\ulcorner capacity of structure improves as span-to-depth ratio increases, Especially, the effect is greate in shear than flexural span-to-depth ratio increases, this difference between flexural and shear capacity may change failure mode and ductility. span-to-depth ratio increases capacity increases more than flexural capacity, we should expect that structural behavior mode gradually change from shear to flexural and ductility of structure gradually improves.

  • PURPOSE. A new light curing urethane dimethacrylate and a cold curing resin with simpler and faster laboratory procedures may have even improved flexural properties. This study investigated the 3-point flexural strengths and flexural moduli of two alternate base materials. MATERIALS AND METHODS. A cold curing resin (Weropress) and a light curing urethane dimethacrylate base material (Eclipse). Along with Eclipse and Weropress, a high impact resin (Lucitone199) and three conventional base materials (QC 20, Meliodent and Paladent 20) were tested. A 3-point bending test was used to determine the flexural strengths and flexural moduli. The mean displacement, maximum load, flexural modulus and flexural strength values and standard deviations for each group were analyzed by means of one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) (with mean difference significant at the 0.05 level). Post hoc analyses (Scheffe test) were carried out to determine the differences between the groups at a confidence level of 95%. RESULTS. Flexural strength, displacement and force maximum load values of Eclipse were significantly different from other base materials. Displacement values of QC 20 were significantly different from Lucitone 199 and Weropress. CONCLUSION. The flexural properties and simpler processing technique of Eclipse system presents an advantageous alternative to conventional base resins and Weropress offers another simple laboratory technique.

  • The purpose of this study is intended to determine the validity of shear reinforcement by evaluating flexural performance in the hollow slab. The hollow slab is relatively light and second moment of inertia is large. Due to these characteristics, it can be used to slab system efficiently. Therefore the prediction of the structural behaviors is very important because of decrease of shear and flexural strength which is caused by hollow section of slab interior. In this study, the flexural test were performed to analyze the flexural capacity of the hollow slab w/ or w/o shear reinforcement. A total of six full scale specimens were tested. These specimens have three cases of reinforcing bar ratio, 0.009, 0.018 and 0.024. To verify the flexural behavior such as ultimate load, load-deflection and crack pattern, the flexural experiment were tested by using loading frame. Experimental results have shown that the flexural behavior are depend on the reinforcing bar ratio. Also the hollow slab with shear reinforcement have shown flexural behavior. Therefore, it is appropriate that the hollow slab is reinforced by shear reinforcement to improve the flexural performance of the hollow slab.

  • There are many vinyl houses in rural areas. These vinyl houses have occasionally been collapsed due to heavy snow load in winter. If these vinyl houses are collapsed, many farmers get a lot of economical damages. So it is very important to built safe vinyl house that is able to withstand the applied heavy snow load. In this study, compressive buckling and flexural tests were performed to investigate the strength increase of circular mortar filled pipes. The results showed that buckling load and flexural moment of mortar filled pipes were increased 42 % ~ 82 %, 40 % ~ 44 % respectively more than only pipe without mortar. It is recommended that mortar filled pipes as main members of vinyl house have to be used to prevent collapsing due to the severe snow load.

  • This paper is aimed to investigate structural performance of flexural members enlarged with epoxy mortar at soffit. Main test variables are steel ratio and interface treatment method and six test beams are tested to investigate the effect of each test variables on maximum load capacity, load-deflection and moment-curvature relationship, interface behavior and failure mode. Test results show that section enlarged beams can carry almost same load of the monolithic beams with same size and the flexural stiffness and cracking moments are increased about 2.5 times and 50 to 70%of failure moment in comparison with same sized control beam, respectively. However, deflections and curvatures are decreased at the same load and interface fractures are not discovered at the ultimate load.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the flexural behavior of square concrete filled carbon tube (CFCT) columns subjected to constant axial load with the cyclic lateral load. Two parameters, wnding angle and thickness of tube, were chosen to evaluate the flexural capacity and behavior of rectangular CFCT columns. Selected two parameters were considered simultaneously in order to evaluate the flexural behavior of a rectangular CFCT columns more precisely. Flexural strength, deformation capacity, ductility and energy dissipation capacity of rectangular CFCT columns were evaluated by calculating the area of load-displacement envelope curves and load-dispalcement hysteresis curves obtained from experiment. Also, the ductile capacity obtained from experiment was compared to that of reinforced masonry wall for the comparison of existing structural element.
