  • Hollow core slabs generally have not been used for a bridge slab or a parking in Korea. In this study, high performance hollow core slabs, which has been the most thick one in domestic are re-designed and examined for practical use. Flexural tests were performed on four 315mm deep hollow core slabs to investigate adaptability for high vehicle live loadings and composite action with topping concrete. The precast slabs were reinforced with 10-l/2 inch dia-strands at the lower of slab and 4-l/2 inch dia-strands at tile upper of slab, and cast with 80mm deep topping concrete. Those tested hollow core slabs showed ductile failure behaviors which were conform to the current Ultimate Strength Design Method for a span of l0m up to the live load of 1, 000 kg/$m^2$.

  • This study is concerning on modeling to predict the flexural behaviors of FRP-confined concrete structural members. For compressive behaviors of confined concrete by FRP jackets, the hypoelasticity-based constitutive law of concrete has been presented under the basis of three-dimensional stress states. The strength enhancement of concrete wrapped by FRP jackets has been determined by the failure surface of concrete in tri-axial states, and its corresponding peak strain is computed by the strain enhancement factor. The behavior of FRP jackets has been modeled using the mechanics of orthotropic laminated composite materials in two-dimensional stress states. To be based on the three-dimensional constitutive laws, an algorithm for the prediction of flexural bending behaviors of FRP-confined concrete structural member has been presented.

  • The behaviour of reinforced concrete beams strengthened with near surface mounted (NSM) CFRP prestressed prisms was experimentally investigated. Five RC beams were tested under four point bending. All beams were made with dimensions of 300 mm in width, 2000 mm in length and 150 in depth. The effects of presstress level of CFRP prestressed prisms and prism material type were studied. The failure mode, load capacity, deflection, CFRP strain, steel strain and ductility of the tested beams were all analyzed. The results showed that the behavior of the reinforced concrete beams strengthened with NSM CFRP prestressed prisms showed a significant increase in the load-carrying capacity and the deformation capacity. The NSM CFRP prestressed prisms strengthening technique could be considered as an effective method for repairing RC structures.

  • In this study, the physical and mechanical properties of steel fiber reinforced lightweight polymer concrete were investigated experimentally with various steel fiber contents. All tests were performed at room temperature, and stress-strain curve and load-deflection curve were plotted up to failure. The unit weight of steel fiber reinforced lightweight polymer concrete was in the range of $1,020{\sim}1,160\;kg/m^3$, which was approximately $50\%$ of that of the ordinary polymer concrete, The compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, flexural toughness and flexural load-deflection curves after maximum load were shown with increase of steel fiber content. The stress-strain curves of steel fiber reinforced lightweight polymer concrete were bilinear in nature with a small transition zone, Based on these results, steel fiber reinforced lightweight polymer concrete can be widely applied to the polymer composite products.

  • In this study, the size effect of concrete members subjected to the axial load and bending moment is investigated using a series of C-shaped specimens of which test procedure is similar to those of Hognestad, Hanson, and McHenry's. Main test variable is a size ratio of the specimens(1:1/2:1/4) at the concrete compressive strength of 500kg/㎠. Test results show that the flexural compression strength at failure decreases as the size of specimen increases, that is, the size effect law is present. Model equation is derived using regression analyses with experimental data and it is compared with formulas for compressive strength of cylinders and shear strength of beams without stirrups. Size effects is distinct th following sequence; shear strength of beams without stirrups, compressive strength of C-shaped specimens, compressive strength of cylinders.

  • This research is undertaken to the flexural strength, failure mode and ductile capacity of one way concrete slabs, with without splices, reinforcement with Wire-Fabric. Test results are as fallows : (1) Crack of the simple slabs is occured at a position of transerve wire and sntirely crack interval of the fixed slabs is taken place about 20cm, (2)Maximum load of slab with splices has showed almost similar to that of slab without splices, but ductile capacity increased according to rising of splices, (3) Ductile capacity of slab with Deformed Bar is higher 1.44 times than that of slab with Wire-Fabric, and it is higher 3.74 times than that of slab with Loop-wire fabric, but that of specimens of using Wire-Fabric is average 4.6.

  • With deterioration of the nation's infrastructure comes the growing, need for effective means of rehabilitating structures. Possibly one for the most challenging tasks is to upgrade the overall capacity of concrete structure. This study focused on the flexural behavior of reinforced concrete slabs strengthened by PS strand and polymer mortar in the tension zone. The properties of slabs are 70×12㎝ rectangular and over a 220㎝ span. Test parameters in this experimental study were placing thickness, chipping, the number of strand, the kind of mortar. Attention is concentrated upon overall bending capacity, deflection, ductility index, failure mode and crack development of repaired and rehabilitated slabs.

  • The development and maintenance of a sound bond are an essential requirements of concrete repair and replacement. The bond property of a bonded overlay to its substrate concrete during the lifetime is one of the most important performance requirements which should be quantified. A standard or a verified bond strength measurement method is required at field for screening, selecting materials and quality control for overlay or repair materials. This study compares the nipple pipe direct tensile test, flexural adhesion test, and core pull-off test with their test results. Substantial differences in the failure stresses of three test methods were attributed to their different geometries and loading conditions. From these comparison and investigation, core pull-off test was relatively good because the coefficient of variation values were about 2%. It would be suitable for use in-situ because of its simplicity and accuracy.
