측면에 치환기를 포함하고 있는 비대칭 이메소젠 액정화합물의 합성 및 성질 (Synthesis and Properties of Unsymmetric Dimesogenic Liquid Crystal Compounds Containing Lateral Substituent)

  • 유연격자로서 분자 중앙에 부틸렌 또는 펜타메틸렌기를 갖는 두 시리즈의 비대칭 이메소젠 화합물을 합성하고, 이들의 열적성질 및 액정성을 연구하였다. 합성된 화합물의 메소젠기는 콜레스테릴기와 곁 치환기를 포함하고 있는 아조벤젠기로 되어 있으며, 이들 액정화합물의 화학구조와 액정성은 FT-IR, $^1H$-NMR, 시차주사열량분석기(DSC), 편광현미경(POM)에 의하여 조사되었다. 화합물 $D5-OCH_3$를 제외한, 합성된 모든 화합물들은 양방성 액정성을 나타내었고, 유연격자의 탄소수가 짝수인 경우 넓은 액정상 온도구간과 높은 등방성 전이온도를 나타내었다. 곁 치환기가 액정성에 미치는 영향으로, 부피가 큰 치환기를 갖는 화합물들은 좁은 액정상 온도구간과 낮은 등방성 전이온도를 나타내었으며, 극성 치환기를 갖는 화합물들은 스멕틱 액정상의 높은 안정성을 나타내었다.

  • Palladium 촉매에 의한 CO Insertion Heck reaction을 고분자 중합에 응용하여 가공성이 좋은 고강도 엔지니어링 플라스틱으로 응용 가능한 flexible spacer를 가진 aromatic polyamide와 Polyester를 합성할 수 있었다. 촉매로서 dichlorobis(triphenyl phosphine) palladium(II) $(PdCl_2(PPh_3)_2)$와 Palladium chloride($PdCl_2$)를 사용하였고, 이 중합 시스템은 똑같은 조건에서 polyamide와 polyester를 합성 할 수 있는 장점이 있으므로 그 중합체의 열적성질을 DSC, TGA 등으로 조사하였는데 곁사슬이 있지 않은 aromatic polyamide와 Polyester는 amide와 ester 결합의 차이에도 불구하고 전이온도등이 거의 같았다. Hexyl부터 hexadecyl까지 alkyl 곁사슬을 2,5 위치에 이중으로 가진 phenylene dibromide와 Phenylene diamine으로부터 중합체를 합성하였는데 치환기가 없는 경우에 비하여 전이온도가 감소하였고, alkyl side chain이 hexadecyl인 경우는 뚜렷한 융점을 확인할 수 있었다.

GIS 스페이서 내장형 저전력 측정용 변압기의 설계 및 제작 (Design and Fabrication of an LPVT Embedded in a GIS Spacer)

  • In electrical power substations, bulky iron-core potential transformers (PTs) are installed in a tank of gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) to measure system voltages. This paper proposed a low-power voltage transformer (LPVT) that can replace the conventional iron-core PTs in response to the demand for the digitalization of substations. The prototype LPVT consists of a capacitive voltage divider (CVD) which is embedded in a spacer and an impedance matching circuit using passive components. The CVD was fabricated with a flexible PCB to acquire enough insulation performance and withstand vibration and shock during operation. The performance of the LPVT was evaluated at 80%, 100%, and 120% of the rated voltage (38.1 kV) according to IEC 61869-11. An accuracy correction algorithm based on LabVIEW was applied to correct the voltage ratio and phase error. The corrected voltage ratio and phase error were +0.134% and +0.079 min., respectively, which satisfies the accuracy CL 0.2. In addition, the voltage ratio of LPVT was analyzed in ranges of -40~+40℃, and a temperature correction coefficient was applied to maintain the accuracy CL 0.2. By applying the LPVT proposed in this paper to the same rating GIS, it can be reduced the length per GIS bay by 11%, and the amount of SF6 by 5~7%.

H-자형 이메소젠 액정화합물의 유연격자 효과 (The Effect of Flexible Spacers on the H-Shaped Dimesogenic Liquid Crystalline Compounds)

  • 옥시폴리메틸렌옥시 유연격자를 갖는 새로운 H-자형 쌍동이 분자의 동족계열 액정화합물(PPPA-n)을 p-페닐페놀과 ${\alpha},{\omega}$-bis(2,5-dicarboxyphenoxy)alkanes 산염화물의 에스터화반응에 의하여 합성하였다. 유연격자의 길이는 옥시에틸렌옥시(n=2)에서 옥시데카메틸렌옥시(n=10)로 바꾸었다. 이들의 열역학적 값은 시차주사열분석기에 의하여 측정되어졌고,액정성은 가열판이 부착된 편광현미경에 의하여 조사되어졌다.

  • A series of LC polyesters containing banana-shaped mesogen and flexible spacer were synthesized. Their structures were identified by FT/IR- and NMR-spectrometry. Thermal and mesomorphic properties were investigated by using DSC and polarizing microsope. Structure of mesophase was investigated by using x-ray diffractimetry.

The synthetic details includes (1) placing the dioxydodecamethylene unit as a flexible spacer, (2) possessing 2,3- or 2,7-naphthylene, or 1,2-phenylene connection on the central unit, and (3) introducing fluorine or chlorine substituent (X = F or Cl) into the outer phenylene unit.

Glass Transition Behavior of Dendritic Polymers Containing Mobile Aliphatic Polyether Cores and Glassy Peripheral Polystyrenes

  • We investigated the glass transition temperatures ($T_g$) of dendrons consisting of conformationally mobile aliphatic polyether dendritic cores plus glassy peripheral polystyrenes (PSs), and linear PSs in the molecular weight range of 1000-8500 g/mol. We compared their $T_g$ behavior depending on their polymeric architecture. The linear PSs show a typical growth of $T_g$ up to 92.5 ${^{\circ}C}$ as the molecular weight increases to 8300 g/mol, while the dendrons display nearly constant $T_g$ values of 58-61 ${^{\circ}C}$, despite the increase of molecular weight with each generation. The striking contrast of Tg behavior would be mainly attributed to the fact that the dendrons keep the ratio of $N_e$/M ($N_e$: number of peripheral chain ends, M: molecular weight) over all the generations. Additionally, for the influence of dendritic spacers on glass transition temperature we prepared dimeric PSs with different linkage groups such as aliphatic ether, ester and amide bonds. We found that the dimer with the ether spacer exhibited the lowest glass transition at 55.4 ${^{\circ}C}$, while the amide linked dimer showed the highest glass transition temperature at 74.2 ${^{\circ}C}$. This indicates that the peripheral PS chains are effectively decoupled by the conformationally flexible ether spacer. The results from this study demonstrated that polymeric architecture and dendritic core structures play a crucial role in the determination of glass transition behavior, providing a strategy for the systematic engineering of polymer chain mobility.

3D 프린팅 기술을 활용한 낙상충격 보호패드 설계 및 구조에 따른 특성비교 (Design of Fall Impact Protection Pads Using 3D Printing Technology and Comparison of Characteristics according to Structure)

  • This study designed 16 kinds of basic structure and 4 kinds of modified structure for impact protection pads with a spacer fabric shape. The pad is a structure in which hexagonal three-dimensional units, composed of a surface layer and a spacer layer, are interconnected. Designed pads were printed with flexible $NinjaFlex^{(R)}$ materials using a FDM 3D printer. The printed pads were evaluated for impact protection performance, compression properties and sensory properties. The evaluation of the impact protection performance indicated that basic structures better than CR foam material at 20cm height were DV1.5, DX1.5, DX1.0, DV1.0 and HV1.5. The evaluation of the compression properties for the five types, with good results in the impact protection performance, indicated that DV1.0, DX1.0, DV1.5, HV1.5 and DX1.5 showed good results, respectively. The sensory evaluation of DV1.0, DX1.0, and DV1.5, which with good results when considering both the impact protection performance and the compression performance, showed that DV1.0 were the best for surface, flexibility, compression and weight. Therefore, DV1.0 is shown to be the best structure for protection pads.

PROGRESS IN NUCLEAR FUEL TECHNOLOGY IN KOREA

  • During the last four decades, 16 Pressurized Water Reactors (PWR) and 4 Pressurized Heavy Water Reactors (PHWR) have been constructed and operated in Korea, and nuclear fuel technology has been developed to a self-reliant state. At first, the PWR fuel design and manufacturing technology was acquired through international cooperation with a foreign partner. Then, the PWR fuel R&D by Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI) has improved fuel technology to a self-reliant state in terms of fuel elements, which includes a new cladding material, a large-grained $UO_2$ pellet, a high performance spacer grid, a fuel rod performance code, and fuel assembly test facility. The MOX fuel performance analysis code was developed and validated using the in-reactor test data. MOX fuel test rods were fabricated and their irradiation test was completed by an international program. At the same time, the PWR fuel development by Korea Nuclear Fuel (KNF) has produced new fuel assemblies such as PLUS7 and ACE7. During this process, the design and test technology of fuel assemblies was developed to a self-reliant state. The PHWR fuel manufacturing technology was developed and manufacturing facility was set up by KAERI, independently from the foreign technology. Then, the advanced PHWR fuel, CANFLEX(CANDU Flexible Fuelling), was developed, and an irradiation test was completed in a PHWR. The development of the CANFLEX fuel included a new design of fuel rods and bundles.. The nuclear fuel technology in Korea has been steadily developed in many national R&D programs, and this advanced fuel technology is expected to contribute to a worldwide nuclear renaissance that can create solutions to global warming.
