  • In this paper, miniaturization of an elliptic-response open-loop resonator filter and design flexibility using similarity transformation of the coupling matrix are proposed. Moreover, the filter with wider fractional bandwidth is designed by the proposed method. In order to verify the proposed method, three 4th-order elliptic-response open-loop resonator filters with a relative bandwidth of 4 % at the center frequency of 2.0 GHz are designed. One is realized with constant-width microstrip line resonator and the others are implemented with different-width microstrip line resonator. Compared with the former one, the latter have shown the size reduction of 13 % and 25 %, respectively. Since it may not be possible to implement the resonators with very narrow spacing for the required coupling coefficient filters with two different configurations representing same response characteristic through similarity transformation of the coupling matrix are proposed. From this design flexibility, a filter with a relative bandwidth of 8 % at the center frequency of 2.0 GHz is designed with realizable design parameters.

  • Within the framework of anisotropic thermoelasticity, the problem of an interlaminar crack in a laminated fiber-reinforced composite subjected to a uniform heat flow is investigated. Under a state of generalized plane deformation, dissimilar anisotropic half-spaces with different fiber orientations are considered to be bound together by a matrix interlayer containing the crack. The interlayer models the matrix-rich interlaminar region of the fibrous composite laminate. Based on the flexibility/stiffness matrix approach, formulation of the current crack problem results in having to solve two sets of singular integral equations for temperature and thermal stress analyses. Numerical results are obtained, illustrating the parametric effects of laminate stacking sequence, relative crack size, crack location, crack surface partial insulation, and fiber volume fraction on the values of mixed mode thermal stress intensity factors.

  • Silk is appealing materials for many biomedical applications involving tissue engineering and implantable devices, because of its biocompatibility, environmental stability, controlled proteolytic biodegradability and morphologic flexibility. Silk matrix is required for the treatment of a wide wound area, but the present silk matrix is made by the second processing, and thus, the labor and the cost are high. In this work, we investigated the optimal production condition of natural silk 3D matrix using the silkworms and invented Automatic Silk Matrix Making Machine (ASMMM) for natural silk 3D matrix production. As a result, we determined that optimal production condition for making A4 paper size natural silk 3D matrix was used Rough aquarelle paper on surface at $25^{\circ}C$ and 30 silkworm larvae. These results are expected to provide basic data for the efficient production of the natural silk 3D matrix, and it is suggested that the produced natural silk 3D matrix is useful as a medical biomaterials.

  • Recently, with the rapid development of the waveguide division multiplexing (WDM) systems for large capacity and flexibility of information network, the broad band 1.5$\mu\textrm{m}$ erbium-doped waveguide amplifier (EDWA) become important. The main factors affecting the performance of sol-gel-based waveguides are non-radiative relaxation channels due to rare-earth concentration quenching and to vibration of the OH groups Therefore, the sol-gel process has to be carefully controlled in order to minimize the residual OH content.

  • Power system is becoming more and more complex and large Existing procedural programming technique can't cope with software flexibility and maintenance problems. So, Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) is increasingly used to solve these problems. OOP in power system analysis field has been greatly developed. This paper applies OOP in power flow analysis, and presents new algorithm which uses only a Jacobian to solve mismatch equations, and introduces a new sparse matrix storage method which is different from existing method. • The number of required modes to provide accurate force information in a truncated model of a flexible structure is investigated. In the case of modal truncation of a distributed parameter system, the difference in convergence rates between displacements and forces is discussed. The residual flexibility, a term from past literature, is used to recapture some of the lost force information in a truncated model. This paper presents numerical and experimental results of a study where the residual flexibility is used in conjunction with a Kalman filter so that accurate force information may be obtained from a small set of displacement measurements with a reduced-order model. The motivation for this paper is to be able to obtain accurate information about unmeasurable dynamic reaction forces in a rotating machine for diagnostic and control purposes.

  • This paper presents a global mode modeling of space structures and a control scheme from the practical point of view. Since the size of the satellite has become bigger and the accuracy of attitude control more strictly required, it is necessary to consider the structural flexibility of the spacecraft. Although it is well known that the finite element (FE) model can accurately model the flexibility of the satellite, there are associated problems : FE model has the system matrix with high order and does not provide any physical insights, and is available only after all structural features have been decided. Therefore, it is almost impossible to design attitude and orbit controller using FE model unless the structural features are in place. In order to deal with this problem, the control design scheme with the global mode (GM) model is suggested. This paper describes a flexible structure modeling and three-axis controller design process and demonstrates the adequate performance of the design with respect to the maneuverability by applying it to a large flexible spacecraft model.

  • This paper presents rational modeling and analysis method for complex structures with various structural joints. For modeling of structural joint, a general modeling technique is newly proposed by flexibility influence coefficient and inverse of flexibility matrix and static reduction concept which is applied to the retained DOFs(degrees of freedom) of detailed finite element model of struction joints. By this method, joint model with contact surface. which can not be reduced by the general reduction theory such as Guyan reduction theory ,can be reduced effectively. And in this method, the nonlinearity of the contact surface can be linearized within a proper range and the boundary effects of joint region can be excluded. Using the proposed method, screwed joint, glued joint and bolted joint are analyzed. And the effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by experiments.

  • This work provides the analytical methods to represent the updated form of stiffness or flexibility matrices using the measurements of the first few natural frequencies and the corresponding mode shapes. This study derives the mathematical forms on the variance of stiffness or flexibility matrices to minimize the performance index in the satisfaction of the eigen-function including the residual force depending on the measured data. The proposed methods can be utilized in detecting damage and updating the parameter matrices deviated from the analytical parameter matrices. The validity of the proposed methods is investigated in a numerical experiment of truss structure and the numerical results of stiffness-based and flexibility-based methods are compared. The sensitivity to the external noise is also examined for applying to the practical work.
