  • The purpose of this paper is to study the capabilities of the impulse response method in length and flaw detecting for concrete piles and provide a suggested method to find small-size flaws in piles. In this work, wavelet transform is used to decompose the recorded time domain signal into a series of levels. These levels are narrowband, so the mix of different dominant bandwidths can be avoided. In this study, the impulse response method is used to analyze the signal obtained from the wavelet transform to improve the judgment of the flaw signal so as to detect the flaw location. This study provides a new way of thinking in non-destructive testing detection. The results show that the length of a pile is easy to be detected in the traditional reflection time or frequency domain method. However, the small flaws within pile are difficult to be found using these methods. The proposed approach in this paper is able to greatly improve the results of small-size flaw detection within piles by reducing the effects of any noise and clarifying the signal in the frequency domains.

  • The leak before break(LBB) concept is difficult to apply to a structure with a thin tube that is immersed in a water environment. A heat exchanger in a nuclear power plant is such a structure. The present paper addresses an application of the LBB concept to a heat exchanger in a nuclear power plant. The minimum leaked coolant amount(approximately 37.9 liters) containing the radioactive material which can activate the radiation detector device installed in near the heat exchanger is assumed. A postulated initial flaw size that can not grow to a critical flaw size within the time period to activate the radiation detector is justified. In this case, the radiation detector can activate the warning signal caused by coolant leakage from initially postulated flaws of the heat exchanger. The nuclear plant can safely shutdown when this occurs. Since the postulated initial flaw size can not grow to the critical flaw size, the structural integrity of the heat exchanger is not impeded. Particularly the informational scenario presented in this paper discusses an actual nuclear plant.

  • Recently all basement floor of apartment site have utilized as parking area to use efficiently space and to ensure lawful parking car figure. And the top of parking area has used as working vehicle's path and materials' carrying area during construction. Thus because crack and leakage status in underground parking area of under construction or completion building generate excessively not only performance of structure is diminished but also flaw repair cost is put in a lot of. And abroad confidence is diminish. So this study is intended to diminish flaw focus on investigation of under construction and completion fields through examine closely cause of crack and leakage status of apartment house underground parking area and prepare countermeasure with respect to design, construction and maintenance.

  • Cloud storage provides an easy, cost-effective and reliable way of data management for users without the burden of local data storage and maintenance. Whereas, this new paradigm poses many challenges on integrity and privacy of users' data, since users losing grip on their data after outsourcing the data to the cloud server. In order to address these problems, recently, Worku et al. have proposed an efficient privacy-preserving public auditing scheme for cloud storage. However, in this paper, we point out the security flaw existing in the scheme. An adversary, who is on-line and active, is capable of modifying the outsourced data arbitrarily and avoiding the detection by exploiting the security flaw. To fix this security flaw, we further propose a secure and efficient privacy-preserving public auditing scheme, which makes up the security flaw of Worku et al.'s scheme while retaining all the features. Finally, we give a formal security proof and the performance analysis, they show the proposed scheme has much more advantages over the Worku et al.'s scheme.

  • Pressure tubes made of Zr-2.5 wt% Nb alloy are important components consisting reactor coolant pressure boundary of a pressurized heavy water reactor, in which unanticipated through-wall cracks and rupture may occur due to a delayed hydride cracking (DHC). The Canadian Standards Association has provided deterministic and probabilistic structural integrity evaluation procedures to protect pressure tubes against DHC. However, intuitive understanding and subsequent assessment of flaw behaviors are still insufficient due to complex degradation mechanisms and diverse influential parameters of DHC compared with those of stress corrosion cracking and fatigue crack growth phenomena. In the present study, a deterministic flaw assessment program was developed and applied for systematic integrity assessment of the pressure tubes. Based on the examination results dealing with effects of flaw shapes, pressure tube dimensional changes, hydrogen concentrations of pressure tubes and plant operation scenarios, a simple and rough method for effective cooldown operation was proposed to minimize DHC risks. The developed deterministic assessment program for pressure tubes can be used to derive further technical bases for probabilistic damage frequency assessment.

  • Failure mechanisms for a highly filled elastomer were discussed, and the stip-yield and the inherent flaw models were applied to them. Then, failure assessment diagram methods were investigated by means of modified two models. Fracture toughness tests using CCT(center-cracked tension) specimens made of a highly filled elastomer were conducted to generate the failure assessment diagrams. The failure assessment diagram of the inherent flaw model was normalized in order to compare with that of the modified strip-yield model. From the comparison of two failure assessment diagrams, it was found that the failure assessment diagram of the modified inherent flaw model more conservatively assesses the failure than that of the modified strip-yield model.

  • Ac magnetic field was changed in the vicinity of a flaw because of the distribution of eddy current within a conductor, when the magnetic field was applied to a conductor having a flaw. The flaw detection was performed by using Co-based amorphous wire sensor head. The wire has almost 0 magneto-striction and high permeability. An comparative uniform magnetic field was applied to a 1㎜ thick copper plate and a 25㎛ thick aluminum sheet conductor using spiral typed coil. The size of the coil has 40㎜$\times$40㎜ outer width and 8㎜$\times$8㎜ inner width. The copper plate and the aluminum sheet has 0.5㎜ and 0.1㎜ wide gap, respectively. The frequency range of applied field was 100㎑∼600㎑. The induced voltage difference of 2.5㎷ was obtained in the maximum voltage and minimum one measured across the gap of the 1mm thick conductor. In the case of aluminum sheet, 0.4㎷ was obtained. From this results, the effectiveness of Co-based amorphous wire was confirmed in the ECT technique.

  • External corrosion of buried pipes can be controlled using both coating and cathodic protection. However, deterioration of the coating can occur due to several reasons. The detection reliabilty of coating flaw detection methods is affected by interference such as metal objects connected to rectifiers and copper grids. When performing parallel direct current voltage gradient (DCVG) inspection, a sine wave form without potential reversal in voltage gradient appears in the area where the interference exists. However, this area may be not identified using existing methods. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of analyzing direction on the reliability of coating flaw detection of pipes buried in soil using a multi-electrode detector. DCVG on the buried pipe was measured along the buried pipe. This measurement parallel to the pipe was repeated. Measured data were analyzed for parallel, vertical, and diagonal directions. The reliability of coating flaw detection was improved by up to 46.4% compared to the conventional method.

  • Ultrasonic testing is one of the most widely used method of nondestructive testing for pre-service inspection(PSI) & in-service inspection(ISI) in structures of bridges, power plants, chemical plants & heavy industrial fields. It is very important to estimate safety, life, quality of structures. Also, a lot of research for quantities evaluation & analyses inspection data is proceeding. But traditional portable ultrasonic flaw detector had been following disadvantages. 1) Analog ultrasonic flaw detector decreased credibility of ultrasonic test, because it is impossible for saving data & digital signal processing. 2) Stand-alone digital ultrasonic flaw detector cannot effectively evaluate received signals because of lack of its storage memory. To overcome this shortcoming, we develop the computer based ultrasonic flaw detector for nondestructive testing. It can store the received signal and effectively evaluate the signal, and then enhance the reliability of the testing results.
